Operation Mindfuck Buttons February 2, 2009
Our new Operation Mindfuck buttons cost six bucks for five buttons. These might just get you the culture jammer street cred you’ve been questing after.
Champagne For Your Brain is taking a while to set up, so bear with me as it starts to take form. I’ve still got a lot of stuff I need to learn, and it’s going slowly. But in the meantime, let me tell you about one of the services I’ll be offering here.
My main project is to sell custom copies of public domain works. There is a cornucopia of books which have ascended into the public domain because the author died a long time ago. Mark Twain, Lewis Carroll, and the Marquis de Sade, for example, are no longer around to claim ownership of their writings. Those of us living in remix culture stand to benefit. Because nobody owns public domain works, we have the freedom to modify, cut up, and recreate those works to our preference.
Wouldn’t it be cool to give a child a book that she stars in? Or for that matter, to own a book which is made specifically for you? I will be offering copies of public domain works which I will edit to your preference. You can have the character’s names replaced with any other name. For example, you can buy your daughter Hannah a copy of Hannah in Wonderland. Every occurance of Alice will be replaced with Hannah. Or maybe you’d like to buy your girlfriend a copy of the Marquis de Sade’s Justine, but with your girlfriend starring as the titular character.
Books will be added one at a time. If you have a request for a specific public domain work, please leave a comment and I’ll begin creating it!
