I consider him more like a guy with some good ideas, but sometimes he only says half of what he's thinking, and expects us to understand the half he doesn't say.

So... could you expand?

If I remember right, all Wolfie did was speak up (unclearly) and not back down... and then he got anally violated by Ye Olde Guarde.

But maybe my memory is flawed.  :?:
Truly, though our element is time,
We are not suited to the long perspectives
Open at each instant of our lives.
They link us to our losses: worse,
They show us what we have as it once was,
Blindingly undiminished, just as though
By acting differently, we could have kept it so.

If people understand what i say, fair 'nuff.

If not then i consider the end result the same anyhow.

I dunno, I still say that modern man does indeed have an appreciation of symbolism, such as money, and flags, and maps.

Sure overt symbolism, subtle as a hammer, flag burning and Mohammed cartoon kinda symbolism.

But what of subtle, slight caressing of the senses symbolism? The kind of stuff that creates an epiphany of the mind and leads to whole new vistas of self-discovery and personal development?

Now there's the tricky part, defining the undefineable. Rendering something sublime into something mundane.

In truth i can't furnish you with examples as such things are unique and individual. To one person a Raven's feather could be no more than trash, to another it can represent so much more.

Hence my comment regarding looking into the eyes of the Wolf. The trick is to keep one's eyes open, to search for these glimpses of the void, these epiphanies.

Wait... so you mean like Blake's "infinity in a grain of sand"?

people who receive epiphanies from a mundane object?

I really wouldn't call that "symbolism", more like... well... a "damascus experience".

to mean, symbolism is a more or less physical act of metaphor that is widely recognized.

Consider these little epiphanies symbolic of a greater whole. Kinda out there but my belief system was never easy to nail down. Christians nailed their's down and it got messy.

Whole what?

You really gotta sit down some time & write 1000 words about yr current reality grid.  It's getting frustrating trying to commuicatte w/ all these vagaries.

I know this is really going off on a tangent from the original discussion or even the subsequent one, and it is likely to be misinterpreted as me bashing on Wolfie again (it's not), but I gotta ask...

why do people NEED belief systems?

shouldn't we be past that by now?

srsly.

Belief system (to me) = Reality Grid = Black Iron Prison = the thing that filtyers out all the shit we don't think we need = what keeps us from the mindstate equivalet to a permanent LSD trip.

Without belief there is nothing, EVERYONE has  abelief system.

Simply believeing that when we die we simply rot and become food for worms is a belief system that affects how we live our lives.

Believeing that there is no God is a belief system in itself.

Mankind is sustained by faith even if it is faith in nothing. People like to believe otherwise and claim to have no belief system but they are just deluding themselves.
