Indeed. The bullshit factors rose dramatically with all that spiel about logic.
In short:

Given Rhombus wasn't even talking about this forum, I see a lot of mentions about what "I'm" expected to do.  Which is odd, because I didn't get that vibe from this.  All I got was a sense of frustration at 1.  How the internet is and 2. How people are rarely willing to be understanding of the realities of discussion on the internet.

Do you think you may be analyzing this a little too deeply, BMW?

If it was simply that, then I wouldn't have disputed that. Certain statements like "Everyone should be logical" especially struck me as needing to be addressed.

No, but you are using it as a justification to act like an ass towards someone, especially when they just pointed out that this sort of behaviour pisses them off.  Cut the crap out, will you?  How would your boyfriend act if he was trying to explain something (no matter how right or wrong he was about it) and someone were to basically say "well now, I'm going to push all your buttons, because you said some things I disagree with and demanded a basic level of respect"?

Okay, I understand.

You are starting to sound a bit..... Illogical. What with all the anger and stuff.

Someone had to say it.

"Vulcan logic" is BS because without emotion you don't have a lot of reason to preserve or better anything. I never really liked it. It's not why I use the word "logic" a lot.

That's pretty much it.

Quote
Okay, first of all, for someone who is supposedly very logical, you are getting awful upset. Secondly, you are once again demanding that all people should be logical, which, in addition to being a completely ILLOGICAL claim (people are not going to change to your whim), you are wanting people to change their behaviors without considering that you should try changing your own. Which, in all seriousness, is much easier than changing someone elses behavior.

Obvious contradiction here. You are expecting of me what I expect of others, only in a different way, yet are speaking out against it.

"Demanding" people be logical is ridiculous. It's like saying I'm demanding people not be rapists. Being more logical is a better thing. Them not being logical leads directly to bigotry and unfair treating of people in awkward situations. It affects me directly. They are the ones forcing their illogic on me.

My behaviour is not at fault here. Well, maybe it is, but not compared to the sheer lack of logic of others.

We should work to change that - promote critical thinking and reasoned though. Trying to change myself would be admitting defeat.

Quote
Also, comparing people with difficulty in social skills to people in wheelchairs is a highly illogical comparison,

Stop using that word. You don't know what it means.

Quote
where as one is a physical inability to walk and simple respect as is deserved would be for wheelchair access, whereas learning social behavior is a learned ability and can be changed.

But, as I said, wheelchair access can be circumvented using people carrying your chair.

It's still the same comparison. Just because it can be "changed" doesn't mean the difficulty should not be recognised. Nobody with AS is completely cured. Some can barely be helped at all.

It's just a fact. Other people need to better learn to deal with AS. People with AS shouldn't have to take the blame when they're not at fault.

Quote
Once again, if you were simply having difficulty with this, I would be empathetic. Its the difference between asking and demanding.

There's nothing wrong with demanding what we should already had. Half the problem with the world is that there isn't ENOUGH demanding of rights.

Quote
Also, "100% gospel truth"? When did science EVER have gospel truth, much less 100% truth? Much less, truth?

Since AS has a specific definition the inaccuracies of other schools of science is irrelevant - AS is simply DEFINED as a wide variety of behaviours.

Quote
Indeed. The bullshit factors rose dramatically with all that spiel about logic.

That makes no sense. If you're running a forum, you need be a good decision maker, you need to have a logical thought process. How is that bullshit?

Cain, thanks for clarifying my thoughts - I wish there was a guy like you over on Boards.ie - AS makes it very difficult to communicate exactly what I mean, which makes me a prime target for people to either misunderstand or purposely twist what I'm saying.

I really am at the end of my plank with all this crap at the moment. I've got to move out of Ireland, anyway.

Well, thanks good. It just goes to show - on another forum we could have both ended up banned for 2 weeks. On Boards.ie we would have. But thanks to having one guy who happened to see what was going on and decided to be fair - the situation turned out better.

This is why there's no excuse for bad moderation, really...

As I understand logic, it's a method of reason that involves thinking in a rational, step by step way. Letting emotion get in the way of this process will only detract from the end result of this thought process. I didn't say anything about vulcans.

I only mentioned it because you were starting to sound more like an evangelist than anything else.

Letting "emotion get in the way" - yeah - as in letting it sidetrack you from what you're doing. But if it's in line with what you're doing - then no, it's not a problem. Emotions can actually a fairly logical response, in some ways. It wouldn't make much sense to react happily to something that makes you sad - it wouldn't be in your best interests from a utilitarian perspective.

Cain just showed me what should have been obvious already, and I realized how full of shit I was. Hes done it before (remember the "if Christians are disagreeing with fundamentalists then why aren't they saying anything" comment, Cain? One statement, and I realized how full of shit I was, and conceded the whole thing.), and will do it again.

Its good to know I have friends who are willing to tell me when I'm full of shit.

While it's certainly true that you can't react the opposite way to how you feel to something, without falling into making sense, going overboard (ie. acting completely outraged by something that is, in reality, an irritant) is not going to help either.

See some response you have received to this, and other posts.

It's a lot easier to just stay calm and argue (as in debate) your case, without getting mad and starting an argument (as in an orgy of conflicting emotions and egos).

Surely much steadier ground to work on?

I've not got a problem with discussing the points if you want, I just don't want you screaming them at me.

I honestly get extremely angry when debating online. This is a lot to do with the fact that I have the lack of social skills that comes with Aspergers; I'm not quite sure how to put something except in essay form, if you get what I mean, but at the same time I can feel very firmly what the other person is thinking, unlike most with AS, and it irritates me that they think like that.

It's horrible. I just can't "not" fly off the handle. I'd feel even worse if I could prevent myself, somehow.

But people don't realise that. They think everyone is in complete control and psychology is a bunch of New Age BS. I know because I can feel them thinking that and they prove me right with their arguments.

Feeling these things so vividly from the point of someone who's not MEANT to be dealing with much of other people's emotions at all, is just disturbing. I can't describe it.

I'm just kind of unique, and it hurts. Because I do have genuine difficulty, but boards will just tell me to SORT MYSELF OUT when my most major problems don't lie within at all, but in their lack of respect and understanding.

If you're angry with your current situation, maybe you should spend some time off the internet until you feel less stressed about it all, especially if communicating with people via the internet will only make you more angry, rather than getting the understanding and sympathy you seek.

Then I get lonely. I can't really interact much with people IRL, at least not the constant amount I require.

I'm so fucked up. I hate people but require constant human contact.

Argh.

That sounds familiar.

Except there are people I don't hate.

I know I kind of like CAIN and LMNO here but I still might fall out with them sometime anyway and that kind of scares me.
