Extract of DK fail thread.
« on: February 12, 2009, 09:41:29 pm »
Hmmm.

DK, it appears that both the focus of your critiques and the nature of your posting style are absent any kind of emotional resonance.

That is, you focus explicitly on the content of the message, yet seem to avoid the emotional context which that content is placed.  In the case of Nigel's rant, I felt the "point" was the way the message was conveyed, and not so much the innovation of the message.

Of course, Adams wasn't the first person to notice the chattering ways of the monkey, nor the insipid subject matter it contains.  You might as well have accused her of plagarizing the Bible, Amos 4:13 ('He who forms the mountains and creates the wind ["ruach", inspirational breath] / Reports to man his chatter ["sicho", light, insipid conversation]'). But Nigel's post wasn't about a new insight into the mind of man, it was the impassioned plea of a woman who wants people to SHUT UP.

Naturally, when one is in a highly emotional state, or wants to project that emotion in a piece of writing, complicated ideas about the habits of domesticated primates will tend to be reduced to more elementary statements.  So, when reading an emotional rant, one should take into account the means which the information is being conveyed.

Also, because this was an emotional thought piece rather than an intellectual one, it only makes sense that when you attempted to critique it as the latter rather than the former, the responses you get will take on more of an emotional bent than perhaps you would prefer.

Just a thought.

Considering the piece as a purely emotional outburst causes me to lose even more respect for Nigel.

Nigel is a screaming, petulant child who wants to hurt other people because they talk to her?  Fuck that immature bullshit.  That's not interesting to read, that's a temper tantrum.   Is she four?  Fuck her.

You've never known a person who would yak your ear off about unimportant bullshit? Good for you, man.

And what's "interesting" for you to read is not really anyone's concern, especially when you are rapidly losing respect from everyone on the forum.

That appears as neither logical nor intelligent. I really, really think your emotions may be plugging up your writing... or thoughts... or colon or something.

Sure. I've just never felt the need to respond to being bored and annoyed by someone talking about trivial shit by running off to find a whole group of people to whine at.

See, that's hypocritical.   Nigel wants other people to shut the fuck up because they are blathering on about trivial shit.   But here's the rub; complaining about people blathering on about trivial shit is an example of blathering on about trivial shit.

Just as she doesn't care to hear about people talking about trivial nonsense, I don't want to listen to people complain (and LOUDLY) about trivial shit.   That actually gets on my nerves more than someone blathering about trivial shit, because at least that first person is quieter.

The feeling is entirely mutual.

Seriously, the last 24 hours has been a non-stop display of groupthink, mob mentality, conformism, and anti-intellectualism.  You're acting like a bunch of retarded monkeys.

I actually consider a good sign that you don't respect me -- earning your respect would cause me to lose all respect for myself.  Earning your respect seems to require the following:  1) not challenging stupid ideas, 2) not criticizing the popular kids, 3) kowtowing to self-important assholes such as yourself, and 4) being a mindless conformist to the groupthink.

NO THANKS!

Written interaction is not the same thing as in-person interaction, no matter how hard you might want to pretend. I am not actually conveying any sound at all to your ears by writing this... in fact, you can easily simply skip over it. Online, or on paper, I am not invading your aural space, distracting you from something you want to do, consuming your time, or disrupting your enjoyment of music.

I realize that your reading comprehension is incredibly poor, but I mentioned "making noise" very early in that rant, and multiple times.

Usually they tend to plug up all three at once. That was one of the few things Freud came up with that still meshes with everyday experience.

Anyway. Attempt two at derailing the anger clusterfuck around DK: it doesn't really much matter what he thinks, and I'd rather not scare off any more people who have had pretty decent ideas, even if they don't get along with Nigel. This has become a shit throwing contest on both sides, and while shit throwing can be good fun, I'm not having much fun reading all the shit throwing and expecting it to relate to intermittens #5, dig? If you guys want to throw shit at one another, I'd prefer it if you did it in another thread. That, or we can discuss IM5 in a new thread.

This is a good plan. Put it in the STFU thread, even, because at least it's relevant there.

I disagree. Airing one's grievances about people who won't shut up is a perfectly acceptable thing to do, and I personally find it entertaining to read. Your opinion clearly is quite different. So what? You aren't compelled to read it.

Hey, did you happen to notice a rush of air over your head a moment ago? That would have been the point of my comment.

I honestly don't care what you think of me, or us, or what earning our respect would entail. I should think that someone as knowledgeable as you in rhetoric would have noticed that the comment about respect was merely secondary to my main point, which is that what you think is interesting is not our concern. The fact that respect is being lost on both sides simply makes us even less concerned with what interests you.

There's a whole big internet out there. If we aren't interesting for you, something better is just a Google search away. To persist in interacting with a bunch of lowlife, illiterate, anti-intellectual morons like us is really just a waste of your time, and, frankly, an incredibly stupid one considering the bewildering array of options available to you.

Can I use this as a quote for Intermittens 7? I think this would be fun to use as "Advice to the Reader" or something. I don't intend to use it in context and won't mention who it's referring to, but think it could apply to anyone who doesn't like Intermittens, Discordians, etc.

Again, if the editor of Issue 5 (Hoopla/Bahweed/?????) wants to use it instead of it being in issue 7, go for it.  As far as I'm concerned, you always have first choice of anything in this thread. This is your thread, after all.

You need to get it through your thick skull that The Black Iron Prison: Discordia Revisited is not the sole piece of material devoted to our BIP model.  There are many, many threads that built up to it and that have built onto it.  Go to the wiki  www.blackironprison.com  Go to the library where you will see many pieces related to and building on the BIP metaphor.

And you need to get it through your thick skull that if I have to understand the territory before I can understand the map, then YOU have got it ass-backwards.

If the map is of no help in understanding the territory, then the map is BAD.

If I have to read everything you guys have wrote on the BIP just to understand why you use the metaphor of a prison, then the whole project is FUCKED.  You're selling a map to America that is only usuable by people whohave already been to all parts of America.

Except my understanding of a map is that you DO need to know things like where you are on it, which way the map ought to be oriented, and an ability to understand the legend and key.

Your map/territory analogy must be some sort of Alt. Map and Territory.
