People who are in poverty do, indeed, tend to make terrible decisions over and over and over again. It can be really frustrating. There are reasons behind it that are typically not "you're poor because you make the wrong choices", but it is frustrating nonetheless.
In the guy's initial story, he related how the popularity of the Twinkies reminded him of his friend, who prefers chicken McNuggets over real homemade fried chicken. My thought was that comparison pulled the first anecdote (in which he said nothing about people being poor, that only came out when people started mocking him about putting out junk food in the first place) out of the territory of "Those People"ing.
In fact, the gist I got was that he was deploring the fact that the demand for crap food is exactly what fuels the manufacture and sale of more crap food. Give the people what they want, right?
There's no denying that the guy's behavior after that was shit... albeit, somewhat amusing shit. But as far as I can tell there was nothing in his OP or even his attempts to clarify that indicates that he wants to shove the poor into work camps or anything that called for the response he got.
It's not like he suggested something totally asinine, like reverse money, or anything.
