I had a dream I saw Tool last night. I haven't seen them in concert in YEARS.

Never had the pleasure, unfortunately.

I have however, seen Maiden everytime they've come to Boston since 1999. They did not have any Boston/Worcester dates for the most recent tour.

Damn you Maiden!  :argh!:

Tool is touring Australia in January and doing some festivals out there, which means if Lys sees this, he'll blow his load. As for seeing them live, they aren't very "entertaining" on stage, they're very focused on playing, and Maynard tends to strip down to a speedo or something and doesn't talk a whole lot, but it's a pretty powerful performance.

I expect an album out in 2012, if they continue to follow the 5 year model.

Decent drummer, but as far as I can tell, they only have about three or four songs that they play fifteen times.

I agree, though I'd add the bass player.  Tool is one of those odd bands where it is really the rhythm section that is the star of the show, not the singer and the guitar player.  In fact, the one time I did see Tool it was interesting that basically the drummer and the bass player were at the front of the stage with Adam Jones and Maynard being towards the back.

You mean the ones that they play all the time on the radio that are only from AEnima? Though they hardly ever play my favorite release from that album anyway. It's always Forty Six and Two and AEnema.

I want them to play Opiate on the radio. Just once...

I want to have Justin Chancellor's babies. *sigh* He outdid Paul d'Amour tenfold because he actually plays stuff out of Drop D (sometimes).

Adam Jones is also the art director, so he focuses on what is going on during the performance as well. I swear when they tour the man doesn't sleep. At all. When I worked a couple of their shows he just didn't stop working. Ever.

Oddly, since I'm a guitarist, that's actually one of the things I like about Tool. The guitar more creates an atmosphere than drives the song.

To quote my dad, the guitar is the "bottomfeeder". To quote the liner notes for Undertow, however, it's Paul d'Amour.

I really liked Tool during the Undertow/Aenima years.  But, for me, they got stale on the next album.  It sounded like Aenima without the interludes.

I had trouble getting into Lateralus myself.

It gets frustrating with a band like Tool because you know they are good musicians.  You know they should be able to produce something more interesting, but, for some reason don't.  Of course, I realize there are millions of fans who disagree with that sentiment.

I disagree, 10,000 Days sounded like AEnima, but Lateralus was completely different. It was the lighter, happier side of Tool (sans Ticks and Leeches)...and then his super-Christian mom died, which is why 10,000 Days, even though it's pretty cliche Tool, is fucking depressing as hell.

Fuck you, Buddy Holly or suck my taint.

Buddy Holly was a talentless hack that should have been shackled to Bill Haley, and then been tossed into the nearest well.
