2010 - a Year in Review
« on: January 03, 2011, 03:19:22 pm »
In this thread, we'll list the awesome threads and projects we started in 2010.

The goal is to record the history of PD so that future generations can figure out what the fuck we were on about this year.

You can link to threads of personal interest (such as really hilarious threads, or threads about major life events), or to project threads. Emphasis is on stuff you/we made.

so tell me...
What was the Discordian Society up to in 2010?

this post is out of date! For a more complete version, see http://blackironprison.com/index.php?title=2010_in_Review

Words, Writing, Publications

Best of PD:  - this thread indexes some of the best-of content on the PD forums. A random link from this thread is displayed on the pd.com front page. If you have a project or rant that you want remembered, please post it here!

The Et Cetera Discordia - while technically this was written in 2008, it was only published in 2010. Celebrating 50 years of the Discordian Society, it contains writing and art by dozens of Discordians.

The Parable of the Bong - by Cramulus

Intermittens 8: Self Reliance - edited by Guy Incognito

There is an Intermittens 9, but I do not have a link or PDF. Yatto/Able/Peleus/whatever you call yourself these days - can you hook us up?

Intermittens 10 - Edited by Placid Dingo

Musings of a Faceless Man - a book by Roaring Biscuit, inspired by the BIP

Chao te Ching - a discordian take on the Tao te Ching, emphasizing the Sacred Chao.

30 Days of Eris - a writing project by LMNO, in which he describes what happens if you start each day by saying "Surprise me, Eris!"

The Showdown - Absurdist fiction by Cramulus. It's about cowboys.

Modern Mythological Creatures - written by tons of spags from PD, this booklet describes horrible hidden monsters present in our world

Dreaming LARP Magazine - A magazine that Cram made to showcase one of his bizarre LARP projects

Pranks and Participatory Projects

Printable Facebook Like stickers - these stickers allow you to comment on the meatspace universe as if it's a facebook wall.

Placid Dingo's "Burn the Koran... to Disk" prank

End the Oppression of Corporations - posters meant to protest the notion of corporate personhood

Events and Gatherings

Moosemas 2010 - Moosemas is a Discordian Holyday from 1986 that has been rediscovered and is getting a new coat of paint. There are more moosemas celebrations every year, it's coming back in a big way!

Audio

The Spider Project - this started as a series of posts in apple talk called "Hey LMNO". LMNO created amazing audio tracks out of the text.

Frost Heaves - LMNO's band

Dead People for President - by Lay Day Gar Gar vs the Fail Parade (cramulus and chloe)

Good Discussions

What can this forum help us accomplish? - we talked about how we can help each other get better at doing what we want to do. The conclusion, I think, was that we need a more visible list of active projects that people can participate in, and we need to get better at distributing the stuff we create.

I really enjoyed the beginning of what I'll dub, for lack of a better title, The Apple Talk Essays.

If I'm remembering correctly, I think the Spider threads started it all.  But then there were the threads from one poster to another and then launched into some (sorry for the Bill and Ted-ism) righteous social commentary/social skewering.  But I really enjoyed that development and I think it helped me, on a personal level, to feel like I had some kind of input and involvement around here beyond my stupid jokes.

There were some pretty good WOMPs last year.  (Even though I wasn't in any of them.)

The "Who Are We?" thread that popped up near the end of 2010 was pretty awesome.  Who Are We, 2011?

Oh and :mittens: for ECD coming out!!!!

ETA:

Okay, so here's the one rant I wrote in 2010 that I think came out pretty well:  You Want Your Country Back? Sure, here, take the fucking thing.....

Also, I think there was quite a bit of funny in Unbridled Punnery - which makes punnery very lonely

WOW, blackironprison.com needs some love - we should really update it so that it reflects us better. I mean check out the front page, it's like several years old.

What about the 'Hey Jim' PDF companion to the Spider Project? Was that 2010?
If sheep entrails could in any way be related to the weather, i.e. sheep trails only originate where it rains, then you could use it as an accurate model for discerning what the weathers going to be like. Either, sheep shit makes it rain, or raining makes sheep shit. Sheep don't shit "randomly" sheep shit after they eat, it doesn't rain "randomly" it rains after water collects in the atmosphere.

I was just digging that up!

here's the (incomplete) list of threads: http://blackironprison.com/index.php?title=Apple_Talk_Dialogues - please help find any missing ones!

A PDF file made by Pariah which contains a lot of this

that's technically from 2009, but we never indexed it anywhere so it goes in this thread too!

edit: updated link to pariah's pdf

*** Dok Howl finished his flashy-light-puke-zapgun device project. But I don't have a link to that. And he never posted pics :(

*** Cram did you also create Pirate Pass-off this year? Dunno if it counts as Discordian, but it's a great game. [thread: http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=17954.0 ]

*** Also, we played a variation on Werewolf, SPIDERS. (Spiders game threads: http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=26489.0 , http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=26579.0 , http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=26824.0 , http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=27312.0 , http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=27572.0 ) as hosted and narrated awesomely by LMNO for the first couple of games, then he didn't have time so people had to use their IMAGINATION, causing the Spiders no end of grief.

(*** whoops the memebomb database project is started in 2009)

*** Last year I found out that Cramulus has the same hobby as mine, being to save and download any and all weird-ass crazy pics we find on the interwebs. He had the great advice to sort them by year, which I have since then done, so later on, when I uploaded them all, and get around to it, I'll post a pic thread with my 2010 Collection of Weird Images. And naturally I urge Cram to do the same with his.

*** 2010 is the year we improved our postcounts: http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=25926.msg906855#msg906855

Oh yeah, 2010 saw Roger's face in Boston.  Hilarity ensued, and a gaggle of Discordians met in person.

From me;

The Rough Draft of the 'Movie' Script: https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1aCF1d-c0CeDxZRXv92bJ5yxooArUiMzqoGhta8cGkx8

My 'Me and My Hair' story (awaiting illustration from Herbertina and Liam) http://www.scribd.com/doc/40853759/Me-and-my-hair . Not technically Discordian so I'll let you call that one.

Put myself in an untenable situation, got real sick, got to Providence & Boston, met Nigel & her boy thing.
