Joni Mitchell.  Only it's actually called "Big Yellow Taxi".

Cinderella's song is better.  Even before "Big Yellow Taxi" was tainted by Adam Duritz.

I was going to let slide you making me listen to that track, wasn't going to say it but now you push it:

Just because he used a pseudonym and dressed up as a chick doesn't suddenly make Jon Bon Jovi palatable or anything, this is even worse than the stuff he did as "Aerosmith".

Jon Bon Jovi and Steven Tyler aren't fit to wear Tom Keiffer's lace-up boots!  He's much more Rock and Roll.

But seriously, you should check out their non-ballads, like Gypsy Road, Falling Apart at the Seams, Second Wind, Long Cold Winter, some quality rock and roll right there.  They certainly dressed the glam-part early in their career, but musically, they were more based in blues and also had some country/western influences and miles ahead of their contemporaries.

yeah, I always thought that Cinderella was both musically underrated and vastly better than most of their glam-metal contemporaries. But that doesn't make Thom Kiefer's obvious abuse of collagen lip injections any less funny.

I can't use "better" or "worse" in connection with glam bands.  It's like saying that Menudo was "better" than the Back Street Boys.

McDonalds, if you think about it, is the PERFECT example of life/lifestyles in the late 20th/early 21st century. Pink slime shaped like chicken nuggets, giant lawsuit-happy corporations suing people for using the prefix "Mc" no matter what the circumstances, marketing aimed at small children (Ronald, etc) to form life-long associations with the product, and the abysmally-effective "I'M LOVING IT" marketing ploy aimed at maintaining that association into the person's adult life...With the advertisement showing skinny, attractive people while in reality the AVERAGE customer is 45 pounds overweight.

All style, no substance almost-food sold to brainwashed masses. It's AMERICA™, in a white paper bag.

No, Cinderella.  Was a link to "Fire and Ice"  A good rock tune.  Kinda AC/DC if they were from Kentucky instead of Australia.  Although they are actually from Philadelphia.

I'm a fanboi.  They put on great live-shows.

By the way Holist, one thing you should be aware of round these parts is if you start a thread about music it will inevitably stray into posters posting links to music they like.  Sorry bout that!   :lulz:

I don't think I'll ever understand your love for 80's pretty-boy glam metal.  It was extremely average rock, gussied up with slick production.

I'm with this.  I mean, to each his own, and all, but I spent the entire late 80s begging for nuclear war.

I don't think I really listened to the radio in the 80s.  After my interest in classic rock started to wane, I leapfrogged into punk and so-called college rock (Left of the Dial), and pretty much avoided commercial radio until grunge broke.

And I have to be honest, I wasn't much a fan of the grunge that made it onto the radio, either.

I didn't like Grunge, either.  It was too emo for my taste.

Well, I would stipulate that I like some of it.  There were definitely bands I didn't like for the reasons you described, bands like Poison, Warrant, Motley Crue, I guess the big guns, I wasn't really into that much.

Aside from bands like Cinderella, White Lion, and Europe...I was more into the second tier bands like Badlands, Bang Tango, Babylon A.D.  Bands that, I would argue, had more interesting music going on and were a little deeper than their looks.  I mean, Badlands were an awesome band with some great blues-based, driving rock and roll.  Check out a song like Rumbling Train, Devil Stomp, Streets Cry Freedom...sure, they are no-frills rock, but they do that to the wall, in my opinion.

More often than not it was the guitar work, the solos and leads, that really hooked me.  And eventually I "moved on' to  heavier forms of metal once I became exposed to it.  But I still have a soft spot for that stuff because it was the music of my youth.

It's a genre in the same sense that first wave punk was a genre... if you can lump Stiff Little Fingers and Richard Hell into the same category, why not Pearl Jam and Nirvana?

Stupid marketing term, which I think most of the bands hated.  They're all pretty different from each other.

Nirvana were a Pixies/Sonic Youth/Vaselines mish mash.
Pearl Jam were just a modern classic rock band.
Alice in Chains started as more of a glam band.
Soundgarden were coming from a Led Zeppelin influence
Melvins are basically a sludgey metal band

I never really got the label beyond the marketing.

you talking about their two punk albums or their pop-rock album? Or their acoustic album?

Or are they grunge because they wore ratty clothes and had a singer with a heroin habit? Because then Janis Joplin has to be considered "Grunge" too.
