I've only been moving cold threads.
If the person involved in the drama is posting frequently or is still volatile then I would leave it where it is.
Yeah, that stands to reason. I still think that having an ageing requirement (in addition to being cold) would be a good idea. Otherwise we're going to be having that discussion as soon as the next "unlimited" repository rolls of the first page. I really like the criterion that only if after 6 months (or 1 year, or whatever) we still think something was an epic troll thread, it is a candidate. After all you said this subforum is for
Classic Troll Threads.
The only thing is in the long run these threads will have lost there purpose and pages at the end of them will fill up with silt or carrion bone picking.
I'm not sure what you mean by that last sentence, I get you're referring to having pages of "bump/that was horrible" at the end, and I agree that such non-content is useless and should be discouraged.
But I don't think that adding an ageing requirement is going to fill it with
too much silt. It's worst for the most famous CTTs, that got bumped multiple times and mentioned as examples in other threads. Or was that not your point?
Or were you saying that putting CTTs in this subforum is a good way to prevent this silt build-up? Because I can see that be the case, somewhat. After all, if they're right here in one forum, it's not as interesting anymore to senselessly bump them.
On the other hand because they're in view, they may also draw extra replies from people that want to give their opinion on what was said or how the thread evolved. Which is arguably slightly better, but still builds up. Another option would be to simply lock threads when they are "promoted" to the Peanut Gallery (good name, btw). I wouldn't mind that either, if people want to talk
about a certain CTT, I think it'd be better anyway to have such meta discussions in a new thread with a link to the CTT in question.
Come to think of it, are there any special permissions set for this subforum? Can regular members start new threads here? Should they be able to?
If anyone can just start a new thread in this subforum, then I think we should definitely lock all the CTTs. That way they will show up with a lock icon in the thread list, so they will be distinguishable from regular threads. The regular threads can then be used as meta discussions about CTTs, for people who are so inclined.
If we decide to
not lock the CTTs in the Peanut Gallery, then I don't think any regular member should be able to start a thread here, because that would make it very hard to distinguish between CTTs and meta-CTTs with a lot of posts.
