Illuminatus! Vs. Atlas Shrugged
« on: June 04, 2012, 10:53:53 pm »
ôIĺm guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk,ö Charles Wick said. ôIt was very complicated.ö

ôPeople get used to anything. The less you think about your oppression, the more your tolerance for it grows. After a while, people just think oppression is the normal state of things. But to become free, you have to be acutely aware of being a slave.ö
― Assata Shaku

If one had to pick one of those to read which would be the one least likely to render oneself unfit for human company?

Atlas Shrugged was written by an author who looks like a man in drag.

Coincidentally, RAW and Shea actually wrote Illuminatus! while dressed in drag.
"The thoughts of all men arise from the darkness. If you are the movement of your soul, and the cause of that movement precedes you, then how could you ever call your thoughts your own? How could you be anything other than a slave to the darkness that comes before? Only the Logos allows one to mitigate that slavery. Only knowing the sources of thought and action allows us to own our thoughts and our actions, to throw off the yoke of circumstance."
- R. Scott Bakker, The Darkness That Comes Before

That was an excellent comparison.

Also, I forgot about Telemachus Sneezed. I'll have to reread Illuminatus again when I feel up to it. Actually it might be fun to read now that I've been here for over 2 years. Different perspective on it. Illuminatus made me go, "Oh, yeah, Discordianism. I remember that." Combine that with unrelated follow the links and end up finding about EggGASM about a few months or so after reading it, and then you got someone in their living room thinking, "Erm... Nephew Twiddleton works as a screen name, I think."

It is, as always, subject to change, but I think I'll be Krang for a while, in the hopes that people will read my posts in his voice.

Jesus, I haven't heard that voice in my head since probably 1990.

Mine are subject to change too, but they're all going to be self womps until I get through the list. I'd change the current one today or tomorrow, but I really like the Book of Revelation as well as derive the wrong sort of enjoyment from Jack Chick comics.

Although it is outside the purview of this organization to offer personal advice, we can say -- without assuming any liability -- that previous experience indicates (and recent market studies corroborate) that given the present condition of the marketplace, continuing with your present course of action is likely to result in substantial increases in corpse production.
