Im guessing it was January 2007, a meeting in Bethesda, we got a bag of bees and just started smashing them on the desk, Charles Wick said. It was very complicated.

As requested.

I actually really wanted that to be a big red bloody dripping heart, but I guess this will do.

I didn't get into the grad program.

I guess I have a year to sort myself off and try again.

Life is long.

Not that you need the advice, but maybe a year off to deal with your grief and adjust to your new realities will do you good. I hope that doesn't sound ridiculously condescending, I only say it because that's pretty much how I dealt with my dad's death and though I made plenty of awful choices during that time, in the end it did me a fuck-ton of good.

I think that diving into grad school would have been fine for me, but in some ways I'm grateful to have the reprieve. I can use it to take some post-bacc classes I'll need anyway, get some publication credits, and also to refine my research interests a little.

Sadly, the gap year means that I'll have to get a job, and start making loan payments. I'm fortunate to only owe for the first two years, at least.

Sorry to hear that Nigel, though as ECH mentions, there are still some upsides to it.

It's all drama at work tonight.  I rode in on the Drama Llama, I fed the Drama Llama, and then I set the Drama Llama on fire, in front of a crowd of awed onlookers.

Basically, student was being kinda shitty, using sickies to get off school, being a bit crap over the weekend.  My manager informs me his guests cannot stay long tonight.  His guests, upon being informed this, throw the most undignified hissy fit since Justin Bieber was informed he couldn't smoke in his hotel room.  It ended up in one of the students having a meltdown in front of, accusing me of stalking and trying to persecute him because I wanted his friend to die and that I had, apparently, upset the nation of Israel.

Needless to say, even though this occured over the space of 20 minutes, it's taken about 2 hours to write up.

It rained ridiculous-sized hail cannonballs on us today.  :sadbanana:

So we all stayed inside and pretended to be busy.

On the plus side, I am now about 20% done emptying my predecessor's immense pile of shit out of my office.

I just wrote a long email to my boss.  I am fairly confident this will be dealt with - interestingly, this school actually does enforce its rules, even if it is lacking in every other area, and the bureaucratic processes it goes through take forever.

According to the school nurse, whom I regularly exchange gossip with, the delusional student is well known for his anger management issues and, in her medical opinion, should be in a specialist school.

That's a thing.  I imagine if/when the student gets dealt with, it'll be another meltdown, by the logic presented.

Got some vacation time in for wed-fri and I'm off on the weekend. Going home to see the fam and have a birthday on Thr. Also set up a hot date for Tuesday night with an old friend I've not seen for way too long. I can get to Racine by about midnight after work, a 4 hour drive. So of course I get a hellish spring sinus cold come on.

Ah well. Hopefully it will clear up by tomorrow night.

I'll check in here a few times I'm sure, but going to be kinda scarce for the week. Still REALLY thinking about a few threads, most notably LMNO's "what's it all for"
one. There's a distinction I think between "being Discordian" and being "a Discordian" as well as between Discordianism and (The?) Discordian Society that bear some thought. I'm not sure where to make distinctions exactly, but it's something I'm chewing on here and there.

If something important comes up just hit me on FB. I'm going to go try and have the time of my life with a bunch of rhinovirus replicating in my mucus membranes.

Im sorry to read your grad school plans have been delayed, Nigel.

The best advice I can give is simple: Dont give up. Review your options. Revise your plans.

For what its worth, I encountered a delay in completing my formal education too. Today, my biggest regret is not the delay, but that I didnt make better use of my time while I was not in school. But, from what youve written, Im certain you wont make that mistake.
