All of these pages seemed to consist of people trying to show each other how jaded they were, how every ounce of human free will is "a story", among other spastic fits of solopsism.

This kind of behavior, I think, is in large part responsible for the suppression of new ideas. In their view, they will never achieve anything and the world will remain stagnant & terrible. Because of this cynicism, people can profess to be open-minded and liberal while at the same time eschewing any new ideas. It's worse than countercultures fueled by candyfloss and good feelings.

You know how utterly depressing it is to be in the 21st century, in a first world nation that used to run a quarter of the planet, arguing with someone else in another first world nation that used to put people on the moon, about whether magic works or not?

"I heard John Wayne rode through Iowa ringing bells, warning the British they weren't gonna take their corn."

QuoteRep. Michele Bachmann kicked off her presidential campaign on Monday in Waterloo, Iowa, and in one interview surrounding the official event she promised to mimic the spirit of Waterloo's own John Wayne.

The only problem, as one eagle-eyed reader notes: Waterloo's John Wayne was not the beloved movie star, but rather John Wayne Gacy, the serial killer.
