Hi, PD. Do you think it is wrong to have a policy of not having sex with women who don't identify with being feminists? In this world of lots of bad people, I feel it's necessary to set up some restrictions. Xoxoxo, Lenin

Literate Chaotic / Re: Favorite Song Lyrics/Poetry

WOoOp mega bump!!

Anyway, I have attempted to translate one of my favorite Norwegian poems (by one Hans Børli) into English, for your reading pleasure:

We sit in blue-veiled June eve
and cool ourselves out on the porch
and all we see has double life
because we sense it together.

Look - the forest lake lies shining red
from sunken sunset kingdoms
and shiny as a thing of silver old
is the scream that the loon* makes

And the bird cherry by the fence gate burns
of new-ignited flower clusters
Now they tremble white in a hush of wind
- it is as if something's urgent...

Oh, pull yourself closer to me
here on the kitchen porch!
It is so fadingly short, the time
we humans spend together

*or diver, depending on which side of the Atlantic you're from.

I'm getting increasingly good at Saturday Nights. Last night's Saturday Night consisted of beer, nearly entering some American pop punk band's tour bus by accident and swearing a lot in Hungarian.

Google translate does it pretty halfass:

Come allfader Odin
Getting my mother Frigg
Come show vanar
Come utgamle thursar

I don't interact socially on the internet much at all these days, other than to coordinate my social life in meatspace. But that's probably because I've moved to a city that actually has people in it. The rest of my internet social interaction is mostly just shallow fishing for "likes". And maybe that's a general trend, I don't know.

The cheese sandwiches are frozen because nothing in Norway is ever not frozen during the winter months.
#22
This is absolutely correct and exactly what Norway is.

I watched it a few months ago. It's difficult to describe. Brilliantly made, but still almost unbearable to watch. I don't think any somewhat sane human being would be able to watch it as pure entertainment.

Wow. That mass SMS is creepy stuff.

The posts (and further links) in this thread
are probably helpful.

Ariel Sharon is dead, and I'm pretty happy because he sent a friend of mine's uncle (while he was about to have Sharon investigated for corruption) on a suicide mission (that he survived) to South Lebanon a few years ago.

Yeah, I hear ya. I've never in my life asked a girl out. If I hadn't been somewhat attractive and interesting I would be a forever alone virgin. But eventually, roughly after highschool, the girls stopped asking me out and I've been alone ever since, more or less. And frankly that sucks, but I just don't have the social skills to make something happen. What are ya gonna do, though?

By Jove, you remind me of myself (not a past me, even). But for now it is better if you think of me as some long dead old Roman guy.

Fate has assigned to you a limited lifespan. This fleeting moment might just as well be your last. Cherish it.
Since girls have already asked you out before, it is reasonable to think other girls can find you interesting and attractive as well. Especially considering the stigma against girls who ask guys out.
Feeling socially inept?
a) getting anywhere takes practice. All those people around you weren't born with fully developed social skills; they have gained them through persistent trial and error throughout their lives. You've gotta start somewhere, even if you're late entering the game.
b) some girls find social awkwardness charming, to some extent.
Life is short. Ask her out. And remember that others think about you way less than what you probably believe. Even if she says no, she might even admire your courage. Believe it or not, acting like you have balls is generally attractive to people who are attracted to people who have balls.

At the dinner table with my family yesterday we made up proverbs, one word at a time:

"Big words can often make small children scared"
"Because the world bleeds in sorrow when the horses cry, everybody wants to be together"
"The sun goat is making mischief. Mornings rarely tempt torturists."

I'm not surprised. It's Sweden, after all.

Went home to my family for Christmas break, the rest of the family is away so now I'm just spending my days reading and watching movies.

Also, my girlfriend is depressed and is isolating herself from me, and I'm really unsure how to deal with it.

This is fantastic.
