News:

PD may suddenly accelerate to dangerous speeds.  If PD splits open, do not look directly at resulting goo.  PD is still legal in 14 states.

Thanks cain.  :)

also this http://www.dailykos.com/story/2010/2/1/832706/-How-progressives-can-turn-the-Reagan-myth-on-its-head!

QuoteReagan would not have approved of drone-fired missile attacks aimed at killing terrorists; as president he several times rejected anti-terrorism operations for the sole reason that civilians would have been killed by collateral damage. In 1985, he surprised aides such as Pat Buchanan by ruling out a military response to a Beirut hijacking for fear of civilian casualties; Lou Cannon reported then in the Washington Post that Reagan said "retaliation in which innocent civilians are killed is 'itself a terrorist act.'"

so yeah.  meanwhile, Obama is a communist for unleashing an army of killer robots on an americam ally.

Isn't Kurtz the resident Birther at NRO?
I can't find anything about him being a birther but he was one of the first people to push the ACORN and Bill Ayers conspiracy theories.

Ah, maybe it was Bill Ayer then.  I just remember Kurtz being involved in something really stupid during the election period, and I mean stupid by NRO's "liberal fascism" standards, so something quite special.

I like this guy, Roberto Bolano, and I've only read his bio.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2009/jan/11/roberto-bolano-2666 has a review of the book which seems pretty good, too.

I'm still on my Malazan Book of the Fallen binge.  Midnight Tides, the fifth book, to be exact.  Three things strike me:

1) this is the funniest book in the series by far.  The dialogues between Tehol and Bugg are hilarious.
2) archeology is probably the single most dangerous profession in the Malazan Book of the Fallen Universe.  There is no telling what sort of evil horror from before the ascent of man you might dig up.
3) its very obvious this was written in 2002-3. Parts of it are an author tract against the Iraq War.

Bah, thats not a fire.  Once I had been up all night and decided to make prawn crackers for breakfast, and not only did the oil catch on fire in the saucepan, it then got sucked up into the extractor fan, causing that to die, but not before spitting flames across the ceiling and scorching everything within five foot.

That's a kitchen fire.

Its amazing I got a job where I cook food, really.  Or am allowed to handle sharp objects.

Republicans get oil, Democrats get banks.

Thems the rules.

No no guys, you're all confused.  Its the Devil that's in the details, not merely demonic-acting ancient Greek goddesses.

Apparently they're not going to support the largest party, maybe, since that party will probably be Labour in the Hung Parliament scenario.

Deadlock FTW.  Really, its the only sensible option.  Or, I mean, we could overhaul the system entirely to be representative of actual people and not just Oxbridge's best and brightest braying idiots....but we should be realistic, in the short term, and hope for deadlock.  That will allow the economy to die a slow and drawn out death, which will give me enough time to earn some money and leave this hideous little island.

I predict a terrible ending to any Surprise Me Eris Experiment.

I don't want to give away any spoilers or anything, but don't be surprised if California falls into the sea.

That's kinda like saying "Surprise Me Charles Manson", come to think of it.

Except infinitely more varied.  There are only so many times Charlie can invite a gang of savages around your place and play games with cleavers and limbs until it gets...well, not boring exactly, but expected.

I'd still like to do Westcrown as well.  Maybe we could see who still wanted to do that setting and who wanted to do another and split off into two groups?
