This is a no-wrong-answer question, just think about it and be creative. What is the mascot of the Principia Discordia community?
can you visualize an avatar that represents this thing?
Because i'm nice, i think Yatto posted the wrong post in the wrong thread.

This leads to a headache-inducing mindfuck when I consider the possibility that all of Yattos posts are in the wrong threads, but would somehow make sense if put into their correct context. Ouch!
As for a mascot, my immediate thought was an angry interrobang eating TGRR's avatar, but that doesn't make much sense. Perhaps in another thread. Sorry.

I know I said there are no wrong answers, but I want to clarify my intent in starting this thread. I'm not asking for an image existing in our emote box.
I'm asking you to visualize a new avatar
is there an image, a character, a logo, a symbol of some sort which could stand for this loose network of Discordians who are all like "Think For Yourself Shmuck!" (and other things)
I'm thinking: Maybe a pterodactyl with glasses.
He's pretty well read, but when you see him you're still like -SWEET MERCIFUL FUCK!-
The Scrid. I know it's not new, and I know currently it is linked to the PD.com/EB&G/POEE crowd, but I think he's a really good avatar/mascot to represent the TFY,S mentality. Particularly I'm thinking of the original version Syn (or maybe it was someone else, I don't remember) cooked up. (No offense Cram)
my first thought was that furby with the expedition hat.
but then I realized I associate this guy with PD mostly: :lulz:
Actually I think both the scrid and the lulz icon are great answers. I want to develop these images a little bit more...
:lulz: is the same guy as :horrormirth: - let's think about this guy more
why is he wearing a party hat? - what party is he at, anyway?
why is he smoking a cigarette? why does he have a noisemaker?
I think he's outside, smoking a cig on the porch of the party. He's looking in the windows and laughing his ass off at someone about to get hit with a barstool.
The horrormirth icon - he doesn't have a cig, he has a noisemaker thing. Here, he's inside the party, participating. And he's overwhelmed with the horror of it all, the human condition.
As for the Scrid
he's a many armed bartender. He can serve any drink. He seems to float. I think he's at the same party as the lulz guy.
The thing about the scrid is that he's in a service role. You go to the scrid and ask for something, he silently gives it to you. This doesn't seem like a typical PD interaction to me. (Unless sometimes you order a beer and he gives you a glass of pee or something)
For the scrid, I am particularily thinking of the version that has one of the hands pointing back at the viewer. The other hands are pointing in various directions, I would pair this with the discussions we've had about Paths, representing the many different ways a person can go. And the finger/hand pointing back at you is kind of, silently, begging the question. "So, where are YOU going to go?"
Whatever the mascot is, it's going to be filled with massive contradictions, and will probably be impossible to fit into any kind of avatar due to the massive amount of different things it would have to represent.
Even the most basic philosophies of this place engender massive screeds of debate, argument and flame wars. There is the hideous and the cute, the intellectual and the silly, the disgusting and the sublime, the violence and the apathy. All of these things are important to PD, and any mascot would need to in some way reflect each of them in some way.
Also, I reckon that a lot of the things we don't immediately identify as "being" from somewhere else have actually been taken from somewhere else anyway, we're just so used to it that we don't notice/remember that any more. Originality might be a difficult thing to achieve too.
One image kinda comes to mind though. A jailer in the background, with the inmate standing in the foreground and bars between them, but it being impossible to tell who is actually in the cell and who is outside it.
Dunno if that's worth anything.
Actually, I think it is. If I were any good at arts and crafts I'd take a stab at it.

I'm not asking for a perfectly accurate map of the territory. Any avatar, by its nature, is going to be a gross simplification. For example, Mickey Mouse doesn't directly represent the ongoing destruction of the public domain perpetrated by Disney. But because he's a malleable symbol, he CAN represent it:

I understand you don't need a perfect representation. We already have a perfect representation which is the forum itself. I just think it needs to be quite complex to be of any real use.

If net does not mind, I'd like to try and make a stencil of him, that would totally not be used at all, ever, under any circumstances, to be turned upside-down, and sprayed onto billboards, as an anglerfistache. because that would be freaking awesome.
Mind you my stencils are messy, so I'd probably not do it justice.
I edited my post to "kopyleft" it.
I only intended it as a digital sketch, but have at it.
You might want to wait for the version that's cleaned up a bit, which I'm also releasing into the wild.
I'll also supply EPS, AI, and PDF files for general dicking around.
If you're gonna clean it up, might I suggest that the angler fish isn't that clearly an angler fish to me? As a logo or icon, it's a bit too much like a black blob. Don't angler fish have these really long needly teeth? Maybe get those in profile for recognition value?

Why angler fish? Just for the LOLrandom factor?
It was suggested by Xooxe to imitate a caduceus with angler fish which I thought was not only brilliant but appropriate.
One of the unique things about this forum is the trolling and pranking which comes naturally to many people here. I think it is an identifying feature of the community.
Trolling and pranking tend to have a theme of tricking people into taking bait whereupon the victim is then bitten savagely and usually swallowed in big chunks.
This forum is not a place for healing as a caduceus would indicate, it's quite the opposite:
- wings found on a traditional caduceus fly in the air, angler fish live in the deep
- the "caduceus" is flipped vertically
- aligned with the sociopolitical symbolism of a pyramid, the angler fish are the lower class baiting the elite so they can eat them
- the kallisti apple is the disorder that rich people desire who have too much control over the ordering of their lives, the pentagon is the order that poor people desire who have more disorder and less control over the ordering of their lives
- order gained by the act of trying to disorder the lives of the people who want to keep them in poverty
- disorder gained by trying to order peoples lives in exploitative ways
The fractal is the LOLrandom factor which moves the viewer's eye between disorder and order, chaos being the interplay between the two.
that's fecking brilliant!!

I do not believe you need to attribute this to me if you use it. Actually, I'd prefer you didn't. I had to use that Creative Commons License because of the fractal, though the creator of it didn't specify his or her name or ask for any specific attribution info but did clearly use the same license.
I think it should be fine for almost everything you'd want to use it for including commercial work, except for a trademark. To make it truly public domain I think there's a bunch of hoops I'd have to jump through, including getting a new high res Julia set fractal which I'd probably wait to do until after this quarter is over.

Ah, that was an accident, at first. I like it though because it gives it a bit of scale and visual interest. The left corner already has visual weight because our eyes are naturally drawn to the beginning of a line of type.
But I'm at a loss for a name...
I thought the top triangle was a bit crooked cause it's behind the Kallisti apple.
