Yes, but every person invited gets 10 invites themselves.

I hate Google, personally. I would like to see this Wave collapse--OH GOD THE PUN! I HAD TO, SORRY--really, fuck Google.

I haven't tried Wave, but I'm afraid it'll be really slow on my computer because of excessive Javascript crap, and of course not working in Opera. Cause that's what those Evil Google Bastards do.

Otherwise, if you think it's a good idea, I'm not stopping you. Maybe leering a littlebit.

yes irc has the bonus of having fuck all effect on most bandwidths/ processor speeds.

I dunno.  Someone gave me an invite, and so now I have google wave, and it's just sitting there.

I tried using it as a communal real-time file sharing thing, but it won't upload the Audacity files I want to share.

My original thought was to host a communal file, so my musician friends could grab it and work on it, and then save it back where it was, sort of like a free shared folder.  But no.

I tried it. Not TOO slow but no, it doesn't work in opera.

Regardless of how you feel about Google they are turning out some of the best open source devkits around and wave looks to be something that could really take off as a useful new communication medium.

Insisting that the software is crap because it doesn't run on a browser that no one actually uses (other than yourself and approx 3 other people in the world) isn't really enough to swing my opinion, tbh. I'll stick my neck on the line and say that Wave strikes me as something that will take off but don't take my word for it. When it does, someone will, no doubt write a clone that only works in Opera that no one will ever use and you and the other three Opera users will be able to pat each other on the back and proclaim how much better it is to the whole rest of the world.

The rest of the world will be too busy playing with the next big thing to give much of a toss.

That aside, I'm still trying to figure out exactly what the benefits of Wave are.  It's kind of like a multifunctional, file-sharing chatroom, right?

Gimme an invite!

It's basically like convergence of pretty much all email, filesharing, chatroom, bulletin board, forum, whiteboard and social networking sites/softwares

I'm guessing it'll to away with the need to have a seperate blog, twitter, facebook, email account and forum. It's the next logical step.

It's one of those things that will prolly take a bit of getting used to but, once the dust settles, collaborative projects like BIP and Intermittens should be much more straightforward to pull off but, over and above that, I think even the way we view and experience such projects will change dramatically. Kinda like the difference between a PDF and a WIKI multiplied exponentially

No, you mentioned your hate for Google. Do you have dislike for Google, too? That's just greedy, man. :p

rygD

As much as I love to hate corporations such as Google, they seem to be doing many things I like.  I do see how they can destroy privacy with their products and services, and how much they have expanded can seem somewhat threatening.  Also their willingness to support censorship.  I can understand why people hate Google, but at this time I just dislike them.  I will still likely continue to use their products and services until I find a better alternative.
