Yeah, instead of bitching about it, why the hell didn't he just fill our vast shortcomings?

Plop some of those 'mansions' down around here and you're lucky to get $30,000 for them.

I think the guide should hire brown people with automatic weapons loaded with blanks to "attack" during the tour.

It's not a real county fair unless at least one marriage is ruined, unexpected rain occurs, something is set on fire, the bouncy castle is deflated and some complete bastard steals the (overly warm) cider.

In my experience, at least.

Over here, we have slightly different customs.

Marriage ruined:  Check.
B list celeb (country singer) gets too drunk to remember the words to the one hit he/she ever had.
People still think huge mutated squash/pumpkins are fascinating.
Bouncy castle:  Check, but only after 6 kids get concussions.
Cider:  Americans prefer Coors Lite, for reasons that have never been clear to anyone.
Someone gets run over in the parking area.

In this part of the country the fair has to include a rodeo or it's big fail. Last year was "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" Rodeo. LMNO would have had a perpetual erection.

Tucson has "Rodeo Days", which replaces that requirement.  During Rodeo Days, at least 3 small children have to be trampled by runaway horses during the parade, or the crops will fail.

:lulz: I have ridden my horse in those parades. Failed to run over any kids though.

Oh dear god, not mutated fucking vegetables.

If horses are present, they can substitute for cars running people over in parking lots.  Tractors can also break down en route to the field, causing mass traffic jams on the small, countryside roads.

I would rather do all of that while drinking.

You have to choose.  It's an Illinois thing.

Fuck that, packing my suitcase to get the hell out of there right now!

Global economics still appear to be built on a mountain of ice, and still sliding towards the bottom.

But still, fuck hope.

:kingmeh:

Preach that shit Freeky. As long as there is life there is hope. It may not come with a pretty pink ribbon around it, but in most cases life goes on. it is up to each of us to get from it what we may.

I may have to start a new thread for this idea, to keep from jacking Luna's thread (which the OP is stellar, btw), but even while we preach there really is no hope in The Church Of Tucson, we still have it.  False hope, maybe, but on the days when the God-City ignores us, it doesn't seem so false, and in hope we find the strength to take another step, and another, and another, and soon enough there is momentum, which raises the bar of hope just a little more, and then our backs straighten a little more, and our steps are lighter, and our spirits lift more, and eventually we're driving down Oracle road at 70 MPH, Fire Down Below blaring out the speakers or in our heads and hearts, and shrieks of delight pierce the hot, blinding rain, while up on the roofrackf its the other guy's turn at sunroofing.

Eventually, that hope will be shattered.  That is the God-City's will.  But we never, ever, EVER say "fuck hope."*

*Unless it's the same circumstances as other people moaning "Never again..." on a Sunday morning.  And what invariably happens to that "Never again"? :lulz:

I think I love you.

Oh my god, yes. And it's hard to teach, too. Some people get it right off the bat, but ime, most don't, even when it's not sheer laziness. I'm not entirely sure why.

Maybe sometimes is a defeatist attitude?

Back when I was still a sheeple, which wasn't too terribly long ago, I just agreed with everything I heard, except for the really really repugnant shit, on the basis that they may or may not have a point, it was possible whoever was talking had a clue, and I most certainly didn't and wouldn't know how to form an opinion of my own even if I did, so I had best keep my mouth shut and let other people do the talking.

I don't remember when I knew how to think, but I did, and then I understood math better, too. :?
Possibly, for some. IME, it seemed like they just didn't get it. They knew what was wrong, but no amount of teaching (revising how I taught it, breaking it down with them, etc.) seemed to get it through.

Sometimes all you can do is plant seeds, others may come after and water them.

I don't put much stock in hope. I've had people call me an optimist, but I think it just comes down to trusting myself with being able to find a way to un-fuck a bad situation at least so my loved ones and I don't come out any worse for wear. I'm not "hoping for the best," I'm just fuckin' winging it and playing life and it's worked pretty fair so far.

Of course. If I hope to win the lottery I at least need to buy a ticket, this ain't no christian prayer magick thread.
