It seems that McKellan and Fry are going to pay the licence now.

Not really, the easiest way for any small party to get in is the senate, because you don't have to come first. Just checking then, and it seems that the Democratic Labor Party senator go into senate with only 2.3% of the primary vote (of course they also had some smart preference deals).

I think you may have misread that Cain, Assange is running for senate, and someone else is running for Lalor (with Wikileaks backing).

But, yeah, there is definitely no way that they'll be able to win Lalor, hell I doubt a Wikileaks candidate that isn't Assange would be able to take any seat in the House of Reps (unless an they were an existing independent MoP). And I'm sure you're right that running a guy in Lalor is just a chance to fuck with Gillard a bit.

QuoteWikiLeaks has announced that its founder and leader Julian Assange is planning to run for a seat in the Australian Senate.
...
He is currently waiting for a British Supreme Court decision on his appeal against the extradition.

But WikiLeaks says despite his legal predicament, Assange is eligible to run for the Australian Upper House.

In its announcement on Twitter, WikiLeaks said it would also be running a candidate against Prime Minister Julia Gillard in her Lower House Victorian seat of Lalor.

I don't think he'll actually win a seat, but if he does it could make for an interesting situation.

Or Kill Me / Re: Labels imply products, right...?
March 08, 2012, 11:38:23 PM
Hmm, I don't think it's always a product thing. I mean in all those examples you gave, yeah it is full of spin, but those are political examples, everything to do with politics involves heaps of spin, and therefore comes off like a product.

But if you have a label that doesn't involve spin, it doesn't have to come back to a product thing. Labels have been used for ages, because humans are designed to see patterns, and then categorise things, ie put labels on things. Also, labels can sometimes be useful shorthand for conversations, so long as you are aware of the underlying subtext that may go along with a label.

I will give the Tea Party one thing though, 'Agenda 21' is a pretty sinister sounding name, if you are a cartoon villain.

Quote"a comprehensive plan of extreme environmentalism, social engineering and global political control."

1. "Extreme environmentalism" Just add "extreme" to any word and it sounds dirty. Try it! "Extreme childcare practices." "Extreme Arts Propagation." "Extreme Refrigeration proponents."
2. "Social Engineering" ...and pushing "Conservative Christian Values" isn't? Here's one of my favourite running Alabama Republican quotes: "It's called freedom of religion, not freedom from religion!"
3. "Global Political Control." See the .COM domain thread.

That sounds pretty awesome

Anyone who can live on an island made of poison kinda has to think of themselves as supernaturally badass, I would think.

"made of poison"?

I thought my white ancestors brought the poison. Could you please clarify?

British nuclear testing? Over-use of DDT? Introduction of Cane Toads? What?
blue ring octopus
every snake
box jellyfish
stone fish
red back spider
funnel web spider
platypuses...

Ah. Thanks. Yes, the most poisonous snakes on the planet. But we have many pythons too, just to be pedantic - not poisonous. Thankful we don't have Komodo Dragons and Killer bees.

Though, as that list shows, we have killer seas.  :rimshot:

Also, I do find it hard to take a lot of what happens here seriously, it's just too funny. Though, cricket is the main exception, it is a very serious game.

Heh if you really want to. Its one of those liquors that comes in  a plastic container if its less than 750ml

I just shuddered on reading that.

I've never bought hard liquor that has been in a plastic container.  I've drunk some horrific shit, vodka for less than a fiver, scotch with all the flavour and class of a bottle of piss...but plastic?  Shit.

When I was in Canada I had Canadian Club in a plastic bottle, can't remember if tasted any different though.

Sorry to drag this back on topic, but is it similar to Micallef's earlier stuff, or is it more like his newer stuff? I much preferred the Micallef Program(me) to his new commercial network shows. (Especially because I really want to punch Josh Thomas in the face)

I'm with Faust on this one, it isn't would take less than five seconds to google that wall of text, it isn't exactly stalker-ish.

What is creepy though, is have 3 different accounts at the one site. And regardless of how Nigel found that out, I am glad she shared it, it raises questions about why you'd need that many accounts, and how many you have here.

Although, now you mention it, a couple of months ago I did see a car with a PDX bumper sticker parked a block from my house. Seriously Nigel, couldn't be slightly less obvious??

Well, it worked well on a small scale (~250 computers), but I don't know if it will scale up. Perhaps someone with more knowledge on network systems can help?
