An Arizona state senator and some of his closest weirdo friends praying and speaking in tongues on the floor (literally) of the state senate to get God to help the state supreme court rule that a law from 1864 banning abortion was still valid. (they later did rule that)

Along with the many conspiracy theories out there, UFOs are a popular 'Merican media subject for other reasons. For instance:

"Joe Rogan Suggests UFOs, Drug Use Are in the Bible"

As per this article:

"Joe Rogan discussed whether the Bible depicts UFO sightings and drug use during a recent installment of his popular podcast.

The broadcaster, whose podcast The Joe Rogan Experience is among the world's most listened-to shows, delved into the matter during a discussion with writer, producer and director David Holthouse in an episode released on April 2. Holthouse and Rogan spoke about various UFO sightings over the years, and theorized that they could be evidence of top-secret military projects or alien life forms.

Among the several ideas thrown forward, Rogan also floated the theory that UFOs have always been present on Earth, before pulling up scripture from the Bible's Old Testament Book of Ezekiel, which speaks of an encounter with unknown beings."

And, further along in this article:

"While Ezekiel said that a human-like figure high above the beings was an "appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord," Rogan and Holthouse floated the theory that perhaps this was an hallucinogenic experience.

"I mean to anybody that's done DMT [dimethyltryptamine] or ayahuasca—really tripped on psychedelics—you read that and it feels sort of familiar," Holthouse said. "The glory of God, these visions of these beings.""

And, even further along in his podcast, Rogan theorized that Moses may have been a stoner. So, never let it be said that 'Merican media doesn't cover all of the really important issues.

April 6, 1963 - The Kingsmen Recorded Their Cover of "Louie Louie"

American Songwriter magazine, whatever that is, wrote about this song, "It might be the best-known rock song of all time. It might be the most important rock song of all time." And, the Kingsmen's cover is by far its best-known version.

"Louie Louie" has been covered by literally thousands of noted artists. It inspired International Louie Louie Day, in honor of its writer, Richard Berry. And, it inspired the infamous Louie Louie Parade held annually in Philadelphia, until it was eventually canceled due to "excessive rowdiness."

The Establishment of the 1960s really freaked-out over "Louie Louie" being played on the radio. J. Edgar Hoover actually assigned FBI agents to follow the Kingsmen around from performance to performance, to investigate suspected obscenities in the song's lyrics. Now, that in itself was truly indicative of just how popular and influential this song was to ultimately become.

Another crosspost. Shit changes, and even when it seems better, it's not. Crosspost begins below.

QuoteI've been struggling to have energy to even keep my closest people up to date on my life in addition to trying to pack through starvation. Here is a... belated update.

I have housing. It's not pretty, it's not roomy, it's not perfect, but it will keep me alive. Packing is happening now. Slowly, with a lot of difficulty.

I still completely stand by that last post I made, by the way. It was said under the duress of feeling the end looming overhead, but even now, out from under that particular shadow, yeah. The words are true and I would say them now if anyone asked the right question. I will gladly sign that letter from both sides of the spiral into abyss. It's truth, unfiltered. There are like, oh, two changes I'd make -- factual errors based in reasonable but false assumptions -- but they're irrelevant to the overall message there. Good post, me. NOTE: Previous applies to the paragraph copy-pasted into my last post in thread.

The only reason I'm posting that above part here is to close out the posts I made here previously.

In other, more on-topic news...

My cognitive abilities are in sharp, sharp decline. I am basically forced to be done with things like Mafia and most of my creative work, in addition to just never working again. COVID has ruined my body and my mind.

Hallucinations are common for me right now. Complex hallucinations: I hallucinated a sheet of paper had gotten into my laundry and I threw it out. Ten minutes later when I realized I didn't try to see if there was writing on it, the trash can was devoid of paper, but otherwise exactly like the last time I looked in it to throw the "paper" out. I saw it, felt it, heard it hit the trash bag, and it didn't exist. This is just the most recent example of a recurring theme: unusual but plausible objects I move out of my way that, it turns out later, do not exist.

On top of that, my ability to understand speech is so bad that common words are gibberish in my ears without a lot of effort. My memory is worse than it's ever been, and I already had a memory bad enough that things like early-onset dementia were in the conversation -- like two years ago. I have caught myself having (thankfully well-controlled) delusions of being conspired against in impossible or improbable ways by people in my life. I'm very, very, very grateful for the self-work I did that makes me always ask about agendas when my brain tries to assign blame or fault, that subconscious stop sign is probably the only reason I haven't fully fallen into one of those pits.

Bodily, I've been having MCAS-like symptoms when doing literally just any amount of work. I should note that I did not have MCAS-like symptoms at any point in my life before this. I will also note that these are a known symptom of long-COVID. And when I say "MCAS-like", I'm being extremely generous in how much variance there can possibly be. See, I can get things done in the morning, when my sleep-aid antihistamines are still active, but by mid-day I have to go to sleep or find a daytime antihistamine, or I will have regrets. The burning and itching and horrible nausea from such onerous tasks as "taking a shower" or "lifting a 5 pound box" at the wrong time is unreal. This in addition to severe though intermittent muscle weakness, various signs that seem uncannily EXACTLY like peripheral nerve damage in all limbs (something I'm directly familiar with, though previously only in one thumb, a few fingers and one knee/shin), nigh-permanent dehydration and malnutrition regardless of frequency of hydration and diet, and more, and more, and more.

It's bad. I'm feeling really bad looking at the future I have ahead of me, which seems to be just progressively uglier variations on a theme of "disability". I don't have people who will/can take care of me, and I'm rapidly losing the ability to take care of myself. I was disabled before, but only in relatively mild ways I could deal with pretty consistently. There's no "dealing with" this.

I'm 34 years old, thinking about care-takers, advance directives and end-of-life planning, because one fucker didn't mask when they went to the store my ex worked at. Think about that.

Fuck everyone who says COVID is over, fuck everyone who doesn't mask up.

I might be alive, for now, but I don't know how much that means anymore. I suppose I could get better before the next inevitable turfing-out occurs, whenever that occurs, but I'm no longer able to really have hope for specific good outcomes without specific reasoning behind it. I know I'll probably survive, but that doesn't mean anything because the unspoken second part of that is "right up until I don't." I know lots of people who care, but they're all as powerless as me.

I'm alive. For now. But.

But.

That's all.

"Tennessee Moves to Classify 'Vaccine Lettuce' as a Drug"

As per this article:

"A bill that would classify as a drug certain foods with vaccine materials added to them was passed by the Tennessee Senate and now awaits Governor Bill Lee's signature into law amid concerns about research on putting immunity boosters into lettuce.

The proposed law, HB 1894, was passed in a 23-6 Senate vote last Thursday after getting the House's green light in a 73-22 vote in early March.

It would classify any food that "contains a vaccine or vaccine material" as a drug under Tennessee law, meaning the food would have to be labeled accordingly. The bill defines vaccine material as a substance intended to "stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against disease."

The legislation would not ban vaccine-imbued foods from being sold in the state but would require them to carry the same sort of medical labeling as injectable vaccines or medications."

Having never seen any 'Vaccine Lettuce' in any of my local grocery stores, I didn't even know it was a thing. And, as per this article, it isn't a thing yet. Now, some might say that the politicians of Tennessee are farsighted. And, by that I mean really, really farsighted. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure those guys have much more important things to worry about at the present time.

Uh-oh, it looks like there's trouble in paradise.

"Republican blame game heats up as their majority thins"

As per this article:

"The internal blame game has highlighted both the deep divisions dogging the House GOP — where conservative agitators are bashing moderates as apostates, and moderates are bashing the hard-liners as obstructionists — and the minuscule majority that's made it all but impossible for Republican leaders to unite the warring camps for the sake of passing the party's policy priorities."

And, further along in this article:

""Every time a Mike Gallagher or a Ken Buck leaves early, that brings our numbers down and brings us dangerously closer to being in the minority," Greene said Tuesday in an interview with Real America's Voice, a conservative cable channel.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) has largely downplayed the departures, noting that both parties are losing a number of veteran lawmakers next year to retirement or bids for higher office — a natural trend that accompanies virtually every election cycle.

"When I last checked, we're about on par with other Congresses," he told reporters after Buck's announcement. "It just — it always feels like that when you're in the midst of one."

Yet the number of resignations, as opposed to retirements, has been more pronounced this cycle. And some of the departing lawmakers are citing an extraordinary reason behind their decision: The environment on Capitol Hill has become so toxic, they say, that they simply can't bear to stick around."

I guess some members of the Republicult™ don't want to drink their Kool-Aid. And worse, I just may run out of popcorn before this act of their show is even over.

Or Kill Me / An Encounter
Last post by mx krabs the bepronouned - April 01, 2024, 05:43:15 PM
A few days ago, I decided to walk around outside for a change. I brought a plastic bag, and was picking up the occasional discarded bottle or wrapper in a vague attempt at actually doing something to tangibly improve the world.

At one point, I crossed a mostly-quiet road to get closer to an area with a larger buildup of litter.

At that moment, a handful of Youths (if i had to guess, about 15) cycled past, laughing, with traffic cones balanced on their heads.

I looked up, and realised I was standing right next to the lamppost numbered 235.

Somewhat distracted by this, I reached for an old bottle on the ground nearby.

It was full of piss.

I laughed out loud on the empty street, flipped off the number on the lamppost, then went home to clean my hands.

Part of me wants to assign some sort of prophetic significance to this. Something about how trying to clean up a few bottles isn't going to do shit about the real problems in the world right now, not least the ones that likely stopped some poor amazon lorry driver from taking an actual toilet break. Another part of me wants that part to shut up for once.

Either way, its damn funny.
