generally speaking, the edit function is mostly used to get rid of stuff that may cause undue bad stuff to the forum (like NSFW stuff, etc.).  If you want to update a train of thought, you're best off just adding a new post.  Thread archaeology isn't one of our favorite pasttimes.

I just hunted down my very first post and see that I edited it, but mostly to delete information (about a website I was working on the time, which no longer exists) which wasn't relevant anymore.  It actually wasn't as embarrassing as I feared it might be.
