It appears we were having a vocabulary mismatch.
My usage was:
goth = highschooler that dresses in all black, wears too much makeup, writes bad poetry, mopes, and hangs around in Hot Topic.
emo = same metal thing and behavior, but dresses "normally".

I've never known any "real" goths, only posers.

And, try this one on for size: I showed this thread to my flatmate and she made the observation that these emo kids will become emo adults at some point. Your doom is upon you.

Only some goth music is good... but yes, in a general sense that statement is correct.

Ofc, there is both bad and good music in every genre, only that most genres has more of one or the other. I'm sure there are some good emo music, but it's not much in comparison to the ammount of good goth music.
