QuoteGermany's centre-left Social Democrats kicked off their election campaign with what was described as a declaration of war on the banks, sparking fears in the sector that it could force the conservatives to follow suit.

More likely this is about shaving votes off from Die Linke than forcing Merkel to do anything.

And just who will be controlling this vast sum of money?  I can't help but notice it will be a European fund, suggesting EU control.  I wonder exactly what conditions will come with the use of those funds, and whether it'll end up being states who have to do the begging, instead of banks.

Germany's never-ending quest to control every aspect of EU financial policy is ample cause for suspicion of any new policy out of Berlin, especially when it is so attractively packaged.
