It's becoming annoying, this deleting a starting post. Especially since it seems to be done just because the troll of the week/month/year has posted in the thread.

Sita, being a past-master at butthurt myself, I have to wonder what result you set out to obtain when responding to someone's anger with that sort of post?  If someone's angry enough to erase something they spent a lot of time writing, they're certainly not going to respond well to annoyance at that anger, especially when the implication is - and I'm not saying you meant it this way, but this is how it looks - that the important part is your ability to read the post, with the feelings of the person who wrote it as a distant second, if a consideration at all.

Some years ago, back in the bad old days when Lauren ran the board, she decided during one of the usual screaming matches to ask if I would consider writing sermons and rants, and not post otherwise; that my writing was valued, but she and her hangers-on would rather that I absent myself while not actually doing the writing.

The results were predictable, for I am nothing if not consistent. 

The point I'm trying to make is, your post had the same tone, if not the same insanely offensive content.  I don't think you intended that, you haven't been known for that sort of thing, but that is in fact how it looks.

I'm just here on account of many of my friends are here.  And they are my friends because of:

A)  They're mostly nice.
B)  They're interesting, and
C)  They're thousands of miles away.  <--- I'd still like them if they were local, but I probably wouldn't have taken the TIME to get to know them if they were local, because whatever ideosyncracies they may have would drive me bugshit.

So I'd have to say, "None of the above."  I can get "intellectuals" at Starbucks, a circle jerk in the conference room, and I'm not really big on safe havens or fucking with peoples' minds unless it's funny.
