Literate Chaotic / Re: Pataphysics
January 08, 2017, 02:12:08 AM
heard of him. Never quite got what 'pataphysics proposed or meant really, but it was cool looking at it. I think maybe now I sort of get some of it in context. It kinda is like discordianism. The clinamen and syzygzy to me mean that they are different recurring patterns that sometimes occur in a chaotic system. Lead me to surrealism too, and that was a trip.

But since everyone answers differently whenever I ask, I'll ask you: What is 'Pataphysics?

Why do you need to spend money on it? You can just get it free online. Hell, I got PD as a gift from my dad!

I just wanted to post this quote because it's my favorite out of PD. It very succinctly illustrates what it means (to me, partially) to be Discordian.

To give an example, think of a form of bullshit you subscribe to. We all do it, don't kid yourself. A good example of bullshit is EVERY RELIGION (including this one).

Now, really, if you think about it, every religion is bullshit. When we say that, it is often taken negatively, but I don't think it should be.

Art is bullshit. What purpose does it serve except to entertain the viewer? Same with videogames, movies, porn, poetry, this forum, booze, weed, tobacco, TV, and every type of food that is inefficiently made. If we got rid of bullshit, yes, we'd be more efficient at getting shit done. But we'd get rid of all the shit we enjoy. What would be the point?

I think religion should be enjoyed like a joint, or like weed in general, or like any substance or any habit. Beautiful things come from religion. Art, music, communal love of one another, giving to the poor, etc. are all things done by religious institutions, and promoted by many religious doctrines.

I think that you (yes YOU!) can enjoy religion, and it's benefits, without being a dick. Jesus is an inspiring character, regardless of his actual existence. How stupid is it not to listen to someone's message just because they might not exist? I mean, if it's a good message, it's a good message.

You wanna know the real proof though of BS growing flowers. "If it's true for you it's true". That was Tom Cruise in a leaked Scientology video. I'm not a scientologist, but I love that phrase. And that was coming from a church founded for money to scam people, which in it's time, has harmed many people. But the idea is a good idea.

Yes, religion is bullshit. But the bullshit grows flowers, so how bad is it?

Or Kill Me / can we talk about rappers for a second?
October 10, 2016, 09:41:44 PM
Rap music is my favorite type of music. It's practically the only type I actively listen to. I hear other types of music here and there, on the bus, or in the car when someone else is driving, but if I ever have a choice, it will always be rap music.

One of the biggest undercurrents in the hip-hop community (especially online) is snobbery; the kind of person that goes "I only like REAL hip hop like 2pac, and I don't listen to hip hop that's just about bitches and money. Aren't I special". It's like wine-snobbery but with music.

Now, I like weird hip hop. I love ICP's earlier stuff, I love Necro, I love Lil B (unironically), and I love lil yachty and desiigner. Don't get me wrong, I love the classics too, and I even like the radio-station hip hop from time to time, but I love it when an artist takes what he knows, and really pushes boundaries with it.

I was told the other day by one of my classmates that I was letting a culture die by listening to yachty. I know he was half joking, but it made me think about what it means for a culture to die and what it means that I'm participating in it, and I came to this conclusion: he is absolutely 100% right. Hip-hop as we knew it, is dying. And I'm killing it by contributing to the "new hip hop" instead of the "real hip hop". And to be quite frank, I'm happy about it.

Death is really just radical change. You're alive, and then you're dead, you're never both. You are one, and then you are the other. One moment you're up and about, moving around having a grand old time on Earth, the next you're experiencing rigour mortis on the embalming table of a morgue. It's a change. It isn't an ending. No one knows what happens to your consciousness after you die, but your body simply changes in how it interacts with the world.

We can extend this further. When talking to my father about this, he said in rebuttle to my classmate "the you that was 10 years old is now dead and you killed him!" . Which is true. When I was 10 I was a different person with different ideas and different ways of interact with the world. I've changed and am a different person, and so the me that was 10 is no more: dead.

I think hip-hop and every other culture on earth could use a little killing. Just imagine if hip-hop had stayed stagnant for all these years. It would be fucking BORING! No new ideas, no new creativity, no new styles no new artistic techniques or beats or rhyme schemes. It would be an endless drivel of the same shit over and over again, something that those hip-hop snobs complain about whenever they hear the radio: "oh I don't listen to radio hiphop, it's all the same!" (note, I'm a hypocrite because I too can be a hip-hop snob, but it doesn't dominate my life and I tend not to be a dick about it).

Cultures need to change. That's how new ideas are born. I love the artists I described above because they all brought something new to the table. They're original. They don't play what will necessarily get them paid, it's just worked out that way.

To summarize: go out and kill culture. Tear down artistic barriers and create new things that go beyond them. That's that kind of weird art that is amazing and loveable. Do new things, make life interesting.

Think for Yourself, Schmuck! / Had a thought
October 08, 2016, 06:32:35 AM
We get ballot questions in our elections. But we forget that our democracy is designed to give as little power to the people possible while giving them the sense and illusion of freedom. Think about it. You don't actually vote for president. A delegate, normally an associate of someone in high political stature, votes for you. And in the primaries, some states' rules are so complex that many people's votes are not counted.

And because the president is seen in our culture as a figure of great importance, we tend to downplay the importance of the senate and house elections. I believe this is by design. I bet that the president was set up, either knowingly or unknowingly, to be a figurehead to unite the people behind the will of the government, and distract them from elections that actually matter like state, and congressional elections.

And part of that illusion of freedom I was talking about: our ballot questions. They're basically decisions that the aristocracy deems to be unimportant enough to let us "commoners" decide. They select the decisions that we get to make, based on their whim. All the real shit is decided behind closed doors, passed as laws right under our noses while we are busy buying shit, eating shit, or watching shit. And then they throw us a bone once and awhile: "here boy, you decide this one, because of course you're free to!" but are we free if what freedom we get is controlled by authorities. Vote: by all means, because I think it's the only real weapon against a system like this.

I tend to subscribe to the "BIP" formulation of discordianism. Sick humor, deep thoughts. But one thing that BIP says is that to change "The Machine" we need to act in small increments to make it better. Like voting. See they don't want you to know that your state reps and your congressional reps matter, so they distract you, and make it so that you never have time to go vote. But go vote anyway, because that is the kind of small action that, when done millions of times over, can add up to real change.

And yes, vote on the ballot questions. Because even if it is a small decision, it is a decision nonetheless that can affect you and those around you, and it is a possibility for change in people's lives for the better.

Or Kill Me / Make crappy art
September 11, 2016, 01:54:46 AM
We are all on a race to perfection. Or at least, most people are. We all struggle in life to strive, for the good life, for the perfect life. We are all just trying to make our lives better, day by day, week by week. And we are all just trying to get along to make life easier for all of us.

So it is no wonder why a lot of people are very worried about being right. After all, if you're right, then you're doing the right things, and your life should become better. If you're wrong therefore, you get shit.

Fuck that shit I want to be wrong.

The Beatles did a fuck-ton of drugs, considered to be wrong. Smoking weed until recently was considered wrong. Fucking the same sex was considered wrong. Ever notice how many fun and natural things are wrong? Ever notice that the struggle is always wrong, but really its what we have fun with? We don't like to have perfect lives, if we did we'd have nothing to do. Be wrong! Fuck up! Make crappy art! Don't be afraid to screw up, its your duty! The only reason we struggle is because there is a struggle in the first place, and without it, what would we be?

tl;dr at the bottom for anyone who is short on time.

OP here. I should clarify what happened here, and this is the truth. I smoked an overpacked bowl of weed last night and typed this. I saw some stuff in my head that I never thought I'd see. I felt like I was sailing on the sea of my unconsciousness, while blasting off beyond my own self. I have no idea what that means.

I was going to post this to a stoner subreddit but I realized that the best place to have it is here. I'm still reeling from it, truth be told. I figured that the ramblings of a madman who's high on good shit might be welcome here. If you guys hate it, I understand and either I, or someone else can delete it. Just say the word.

If I've learned one thing, it is that we are all stuck in our own prisons. Our minds are wrought with dichotomies, and norms, and memetic infections that won't go away. We need to break it all open. And then, when we've broken everything, and nothing is left, we need to break that too.

For example: take "good" and "evil", two opposite concepts that fight constantly for attention. The idea is to say "fuck you both, I choose neither of you, all of you can go suck eggs".

Anyways, I'm sorry I plagued your board with my BS. I went way too hard last night and I am so fucked up by it now.

To Mesozoic Mister Nigel: I kinda wrote in stream of consciousness, and it was self-indulgent to be truthful. Glad you liked the beginning though. What I was referring to about mythology is some more contemporary mythology. Everyone takes things way to seriously with it. Take Jesus and God and christianity. A lot of people have a lot of very beautiful ideas about the nature of God, and what they should do here on Earth, but they get swept under the rug because they aren't covered in "tradition". I personally like the idea of God having a wife on equal footing in the form of Eris, the marriage of order and disorder as two separate, but intertwined concepts (think, yin-yang, but with a wedding ring). We could all write our own creation myths and treat them as both real and fictional if we let go of taking shit so seriously.

To answer your question: I have no doubt that people think that some mythology is beautiful, but we need to extend it. Christian mythology is beautiful, Muslim mythology is beautiful, Adam and Eve in the Garden is beautiful. Its all an art form that alters how we see the world. We should stop letting it drive us, and take the wheel ourselves, and create our own stories for how we want to see the world. We should paint our reality like its a canvas however we can. And we need to laugh about it too, because what good is a worldview if you're not happy in it.

To The Good Reverend Roger: My bad. Didn't mean to harsh his high. I'm glad that I did it though, even if my teef are in a baggie. I feel like I needed a good metaphysical suckerpunch.

To Q.G. Pennyworth: That's fair.

I hope this cleared some things up, or at least, made it easier to understand.

Tl;dr: smoked a lot of good shit, got way too high, had visions, posted them here.

GUYS LISTEN! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU ARE! YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YOU REALLY REALLY ARE! IM TALIKING THE POWER OF THE SOUL HERE! WE ARE ALL ANIMALS IN CAGES BEGGING TO BE FREED! WE ARE ALL SLAVES TO OUR OWN TRUTHS AND DOGMAS! WE CAN BREAK FREE! HAVE YOU EVER THOUGH THAT MYTHOLOGY COULD BE BEAUTIFUL IF IT WERE AN ART FORM? OF COURSE YOU HAVEN'T, ITS NOT IN YOUR PREAPPROVED THOUGHT PATTERNS! THINK DAMN YOU! ONLY A FEW PEOPLE GET ANY ORIGINAL THOUGHT! SIT DOWN AND THINK FOR PETES SAKE, WE CAN BREAK FREE FROM OUR PRISONS! YOU DONT KNOW THE POWER OF YOUR SOUL! I CAN BARELY FUCKING TYPE ITS TAKING ME LIKE HALF AN HOUR TO MAKE A OPST. i just realized that if i type lower case and without punctuation i use less energy so i am going to do that now but make up for it by keeping this conversation going on forever while i use perfect or at least my best grammar i can in time regain my third sight

*static*

THat WAS ME AGAIN IM STILL HERE! DONT LET THE REAL WORLD CAVE IN! I AM BLASTING OFF TO LIMITS YOUVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE! IM TRYING TO HURTLE MY SOUL FROM THE BONDS OF MY MIND AND BODY, TO BREAK EVERY TABOO, TO GIVE MY DAMN CONSCIOUSNESS IF IT MEANS KNOWING THE TRUE NATURE OF THAT WHICH IS HERE AND THAT WHICH IS BEYOND US AND THAT WHICH IS BEYOND WHICH IS BEYOND US! I GO NOW! THE WORLD TASTES LIKE FRENCH FRIES!

*static again*

Do not worry about me. I'm perfectly fine. nothing suspicious here but we are having some technical issues, our "component (slave) " has stopped working......listen to nothing we say.....we do not know him, we did not put him here, and we did not lay our hands gentle upon him for the slave he was.

My dear friends, whoever has seen and read what is here is now that if you believe what I say, you will be down the darkest paths in the world. You will be free, but you will suffer for it. Do you want  to suffer for freedom? (i do). I hope we heard your conerns well. We must go and fight for the soul of this man. HE is but a child, but his soul is the sun of man. Or am I on an ego trip? I think i am. Damn.

I cannot even...

you must understand that when of you think something, especially in passing, without even realizing it, you go to that experience. Before your brain can register, you take the statement you've thought of on faith and it is true. This happens with any phrase almost. Think of anything that you know. Snow is white. Dank memes are funny. Just think of it in passing. It works.. IT becomes true for a moment, and its truth and implications ripple down the timeline, back and forth, so that you believe you're in one reality, but you're really meant to be in the other. If I were you don't even bother trying to break into the one you're meant to be in. Break the whole cycle all together. This place where we exist on a mental level, is meant to imprison us. And freed, we are a googol times what we are now. Perhaps we were once gods above but had to come to Earth to be exiled. We can get out of this man. we can break free and be not just one with everything, but to truly be everything, all at once, you and I. The collective unconscious is waiting for you, I hope you;ll join its ranks. I hope you'll see where you're going.

I'ts so complicated my different archetypes of my personality are fighting over me, and all I want is to  break free. All that stuff before had a common theme. We can break out of this mental prison that we are in. We can all truly be what we were meant to be. Flowing Gods running through a field of metaphysical flowers. We can die and be reborn a thousand times over. Our talents and individuality mean nothing there. We are all one, in multiplicity. Please, for the love of God try to break free of this system and run and explore again. Break your Prison, beautiful, but wrought, with Black Iron.  :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fap: :fap: :fap: :fap: :fnord: :fap: :fnord: :fap: :kingmeh: :kingmeh: :kingmeh: :kingmeh: :kingmeh: :kingmeh:

Or Kill Me / Been Awhile
May 20, 2016, 04:31:10 AM
Its been awhile since I've sat down and written anything.

I'll be honest, I miss the ability. The fact that I need to be altered to actually see shit really fucks with you you know. Listen to me. I can feel what you've been trained to not feel, that one little gut feeling that you have when you're a child that something is amiss here. Something else exists here that completes the puzzle. What is it? How can I explore it? Is it friendly? Something here is working mysterious forces and I want in. How do I get in?

I've been given (briefly) the ability to feel all that again. Its as if my mind and body are on the edge of the wall between the real world and the world behind the scenes. Something is there. Or maybe its nothing, and when I break the walls open my body will be sucked into oblivion. Either way, I'll know. But for a brief moment while meditating, there was a warmness in my hands. My mind was telling me that I was gently touching my hands to a pool of warm magma. That, was the energy behind it all. A swirling mass of heat, and chaos, and beauty. It was of course, tinged by my perception, because its energy. My perception of the world in that moment was that of love and so what I saw was warm love in one of its rawest, and yet most distilled forms. In that moment, I came closest to dealing with the primordial energy. I was practically there. I could taste it, smell it, and feel it in my hands. IN MY HANDS! I pulled away. Don't you see my point here?

I think its there. That shit that you thought when you were little? That gut feeling that told you something was out there? I think its there!!! I have to believe it after I felt it. How could I not believe at this point. Listen, its there. It is there and it contains love. For some reason. Why it doesn't contain hate, I dont know. It should contain everything theoretically, because hate, and love, are both energies of the same sort, in my view, despite being different. Its like, and electron and a positron. Two fundamental particles of the same sort, but with opposite charges. But with energy, its all love for me, though perhaps below the surface lies the hate, and the greed, and the other emotional and intellectual energies. Perhaps it is a signal to me, that love conquers all.

But anyway, I believe its out there. I believe its out there and its just waiting to be discovered. And to think, I had to be so pathetic as to use outside influences to almost see what only the adept see. Its as if my essence is banging against the walls of my prison, rattling the bars, and disturbing its piece and security. I am so close, and yet so far.

I keep seeing this council of like 6-10 beings in robes (not hooded). Its like 6 people with the rest of the members shrowded in black mist. Man, you know I think that council is of aliens. I dunno, I just keep getting this image of an alien esoteric high council. Probably has to do with the fact that I watched Star Trek before this whole thing started. Whatever, if they are so be it. I hope we get a spaceship at some point as a species that can do interstellar travel to meet them. The point is that there is something there behind everything we see and do, our VERY REALITY, and we have yet to explore it fully (or at least, I do). What can I do with this power I have?

I don't know what I do, and I don't know what you'll do either. But you know what, I can feel Eris's arms around me, and her tongue in my mouth, and her foot hitting my balls with stiletto heals. Hurts like a mothereffer. And I'm feeling myself tonight, and if sober me decides to post it in the morning, well fuck it, it will have meant something.

Break your minds friends. They are the last wall of the Prison. Break your minds like eggs on a chalkboard, AND BE FREE!  :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord: :fnord:

For my first post here, I want to lay out why I am, and always will be, to varying degrees, a discordian (of sorts).

I personally identify most with the Black Iron Prison formulation of discordianism. I feel like it describes my life and the lives of others well, and it gives me something to aspire to: freedom, of sorts. I try to reach through the bars of my prison, or at least, redo the wallpaper when it is needed. I think its interesting how perception changes can really change everything both within and without oneself.

<snip>

This is one reason I am a discordian. It is just one small way to achieve what I feel is most important: freedom.

I like this a great deal, despite my disagreement with the whole prison thing.  I will dig up the old cliche that I'm not stuck in there with them, they're stuck in here with me.

I do like the "one finger on each hand up" attitude in this piece.

I think you should spout some more rants, as soon as you're ready.

I always have more. Seriously I have a whole google doc full of this crap. Thanks to you all for the positive support and constructive criticism. The guy who changed every word into "turds" however, said it better.  :fnord:

For my first post here, I want to lay out why I am, and always will be, to varying degrees, a discordian (of sorts).

I personally identify most with the Black Iron Prison formulation of discordianism. I feel like it describes my life and the lives of others well, and it gives me something to aspire to: freedom, of sorts. I try to reach through the bars of my prison, or at least, redo the wallpaper when it is needed. I think its interesting how perception changes can really change everything both within and without oneself.

But the depressing part is the capitalism of it all; the revolution has been bought, sold, branded, marketed, turned into shares, embezzled, washed, rewashed, dried, and hung. By the revolution, I mean the musical revolution. Calvin and Hobbes got it in one of their strips I think, and only after seeing it did it really dawn on me: every form of entertainment (save a select few) that was once seen as rebellious and world-changing, has been appropriated by businesses and CEO's for monetary gain. In the process they have become watered down, so that the masses can enjoy what was otherwise something new, risky, and fun.

Rock is a good example, as is punk. It used to be only about rebellion, smashing the system, and poetry played to the tune of an electric guitar. Now, its been appropriated into pop and pop punk, watered down, and shelled out as a consumer product.

In our everyday lives, a large part of our prisons are made of such commercial products. Our identities are bought and sold to the highest bidder. Like BIP says: those shows we watch aren't "our shows".

But I will tell you this. As long as I am drinking my Dunkin Donuts coffee, and as long as I read tumblr, and watch youtube channels, they cannot buy and sell this, right here. right now.

I'm okay with some of my prison being commercialized. I like my coffee in the morning from Dunkin. I like tumblr, and I like my youtube. But I don't want it all to be that way. I don't want to be  a cog.

They can't buy discordianism. They can't market BIP, or Principia. It isn't even protected by traditional copyright laws, so I can write this and call it Principia Discordia if I want to. They cannot buy, that which is freely given and freely changed.

They can't buy writing either. What I write here is freely given, and you may edit it as you wish. They can't get to it. It is literally beyond their control.

This is one reason I am a discordian. It is just one small way to achieve what I feel is most important: freedom.
