LOL

Nope, but there is enough of a stoner population here (Boulder) to support some unorthodox appetites.  This won't last for much longer though the damn yuppies have pretty much ruined this city for good.

Long live the CHEESE WHIZ!!!

Nobody has mentioned hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated foods.

Adding hydrogen to food as a way of increasing it's shelf life.

Unfortunately, it reduces your shelf life.

Hydrogen???

Can food be persuaded to splodey?

Yes, via trans fats

saturated fats are worse than unsaturated fats, but not quite as bad as trans fats, which are created by partially hydrogenating unsaturated fats. the output is a molecule that doesn't exist naturally; transfats only come from human production

Theres considerable evidence that we can't really process transfats right. Meaning they build up in our bodies, and arteries...

In other words, shy away from margarine.

Anything involving both frying and cheese.  I love it, but the stuff is TERRIBLE for you.
How about these?

I get paid to make them on campus, those fuckers are 70 calories per stick.  That's not including the additional fat added from actually frying them.

About the only thing I learned how to cook is a mean tuna noodle casserole with crunched up potatoe chips as the topping.  High-class all the way, that's me.  :D

I'm trying to learn to cook decent food these days.  IMNO's thread seems to be a treasure trove of good ideas.

Now if I could only afford food.

Apparently there's no such thing. Seen a thing on teevee - they stopped making it years ago. The shit on the supermarket shelves now comes under the heading "spreads" and is made of a bunch of shit but not margarine

They still make partially hydrogenated oils for sale, the reason being that transfats are semisolid at room temperature. An oil you can spread is considered close enough to butter by most people. You can call it a "spread", but if it still has partially hydrogenated oils its still margarine.

Me, I'll stick with butter

Dysfunctional Cunt

Fuck margarine just use less butter.

Healthy eating is really not all that difficult, it just requires a bit of effort on the part of the eater.  THERE is the problem, people hate to make an effort.  Fast food isn't killing people because it's good (well some of it is) it's killing people because it's easy.

Buy frozen veggies, that way you only use what you are going to eat.  Freeze meat in individual portions.  You can use butter, just use it sparingly.  Avoid salt, use other spices for flavor.  Olive oil or peanut oil are your best oil options.  Bake instead of frying.

If you truly do not know HOW to cook, hell watch a cooking show.  Rent a video.  Trial and error like the rest of us.  You might have to eat a few burnt pieces (great carbon source btw) but you will learn from your mistakes.  Help someone in the kitchen and observe what they do.

If you're just at a loss of what to cook, I'm sure most of us here who hang in the meathole can give you one or two recipes.
