Today, for a brief second, I thought of a life without Roger. It was much like my current life, except that this forum was a bit nicer.

I found them! I actually found them a while a go, but never got around to telling anyone. I figured I'd post it like this so it could be easily saved/shared/reposted without losing context:

It kind of exited me to find out Donald Knuth had actually commented on this (He's math-famous, mostly for writing The Art of Computer Programming and inventing/writing Tex and Metafont).

I thought I also scanned the question and more context for the rock engravings, but I can't find them. If anyone is really interested and unable to access a library with Scientific American archives I would be willing to lend the book again and scan more, although it might be better to have someone with access to a color scanner do it.

Two vast and trunkless legs of stone / Bourbon

Starting a new thread for this, in order to not derail things to much.

Besides, that's 4 days killed, days that we could be showing you the glory of Tucson.  And bourbon.  Not the kind of bourbon You People would drink, over there where you can get beer that tastes like beer and booze that doesn't chew the enamel off of your teeth.  No.  Our bourbon.  Stuff that would make Humphrey Bogart cry, and make George Thorogood give up on the sauce.  And we shall drink in the company of branding freaks and tape worm perverts, and we shall call it Right & Good.

What is good bourbon? I have quite a lot of experience with scotch, and I've had a couple of bourbons: Jack Daniels and some slightly more classy stuff called woodland reserve. The Jack was good for fast drinking, and the Woodland Reserve was also very nice.

Or maybe I got the question wrong. How much bourbon is good bourbon? Where is good bourbon? What kind of companions make good bourbon?

They actually launched their site! It has a couple of things I haven't seen before, but most of it is stuff we already know in one location.

Literate Chaotic / Find out who you are!
February 14, 2012, 06:39:20 PM
We have long been cursed. None knew the answer to that eternal question: "Who am I?" But I have discovered a cure!

First you must watch some TV. Watch it like it's supposed to be watched i.e., the advertisements count.

You are now a product. Congratulations! There is a company out there selling your attention wholesale.

Now you call them and ask them what they are selling. Good luck!

Bring and Brag / Wax seal stamp
January 26, 2012, 07:09:27 AM
I made a discordian wax seal stamp:

What I did is make an original image out of a polymer clay (you know, the "clay" that becomes hard by itself, without needing a high temperature oven). This is a positive image, so the same as the final seal. I attached this to some beeswax and put it in a container:

Then I filled the container with plaster and let it dry:

When I had done this, I put the cast in the oven and melted out the beeswax. I filled the hollow with molten lead, and hammered off all the plaster. After a little bit of finishing with a dremel, this is the result:
