I went to an interesting conference yesterday titled "A circular economy for the composites industry."

It was mostly about recycling carbon fibre for the automotive and aerospace industries with a dash of extra recycling. I could sum it up as "Reduce, reuse, recycle... burn"

And i'm going to Krakow tomorrow with the girlfriend for a few days which i'm pretty excited about.

Krakow's a really awesome city.

Though you're kinda obligated to go to Auschwitz, which can be something of a downer.

I'm just sitting at home, waiting for Alty to finish a massage and come home so we can finish prepping for our trip to Alaska. I should probably be washing dishes or something.

So, I got Snapchat, one of those app things that all the kids do, and my sister abuses it more than anybody I know, ever. This morning, I got 2 pictures of her on the shitter. 2 different shitters. Normally I get videos of her singing Cher in the car, or something.  :horrormirth:

We appear to be doomed by our DNA to repeat the same destructive behaviors our forebears have repeated for millenia. If anything our problem solving skills have actually diminished with the advent of technology & our ubiquitous modern conveniences. & yet despite our predisposition towards fear-driven hostility; towards what we anachronistically term primitive behavior another instinct is just as firmly encoded in our make-up. We are capable as our ancestors were of incredible breathtaking acts of kindness. Every hour of every day a man risks his life at a moments notice to save another. Forget for a moment the belligerent benevolent billionaires who grant the unfortunate a crumb of costfree cake. I speak of pure acts of selflessness. A Mother who rushes into the street to save a child from a speeding vehicle. A person who runs into a burning building to reach a family trapped on the upper story. Such actions, such moments, such unconscious selfless decisions, define what it is to be human

My family is a little worried.

Is it normal to have such a bad sense of smell that you can walk into a candle shop and not smell a damn thing? This has been going on for awhile.
One of my friends said it could be an early sign of Alzheimer's/Schizophrenia, but I doubt that.

Also, I'm not suffering from seasonal allergies or blockages. I can blow my nose normally and all that. I just can't smell almost anything.

I don't even smell body odor or shit/farts anymore, except for some times. And even then, it's not like the normal fart or shit smell I'm used to. It has more of a chemical smell, than the usual smell, and isn't particularly displeasing or foul.

Also, I shower regularly and have very good hygiene. It's not me getting used to the smells on myself or something lol

I particularly don't care. I do smell things sometimes if I get them VERY close to my nose, and then I only smell it for a second, and then the sensation is gone.

That's actually a cause for alarm. A sense of smell that has always been off or nonexistent is one of those quirk level things, a sharp drop off in your sense of smell is in fact tied to shit like alzheimers and tumors. Not like "you're gonna die now" alarm, but "schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience" alarm.

I used to be able to smell quite strongly. But this was a more recent, like within the past few months kind of thing. And it was something I just randomly noticed, as everyone else around me would be smelling awful or amazing shit, and I would be totally left out.

The shit happening to my sensory systems in the last year or so has been very strange, considering me being 20.

Loss of feeling in my right testicle (Had an ultrasound, nothing was found out of the ordinary, considering my absurd ability to squeeze and twist the fucker in a million ways), loss of smell (And as a result, my sense of taste), and random pains and spasms and fasciculations throughout my body. I feel like it would be silly for me to rule out the idea of all of that being connected, but I feel like it would also be silly to assume it's some major mental disease. I feel like this is some of that shit everyone's body does but doesn't really talk about.

Then again, I have heard there is a severe under-diagnosis issue in the medical field (In general).

Not terribly unusual if it only lasts for a few days. A cold virus could do that with only a few other mild symptoms. A few months is worrisome.

You say you can still blow your nose, is this something you need to do often?

If you are on inhalers in can affect it, have you been on or changed any medication in the last while? How's your sense of taste?

I do it once in the shower every morning or so. Nothing too unusually frequent.

I don't take any medication at all. Never been on inhalers, unless you count the breathing treatments I received when I was much younger for chronic bronchitis (Went dormant and has been so since then).

My sense of taste is awful. I need spicy foods or something very strong in flavor to get anything really. That's why I'm mostly just picky about texture, now.

This is not a thing that everyone's body just does at 20, and in fact a decrease in sense of smell is typical in the elderly, but also something that seems more common within the 5 years before their death. Your family is correct in being a little worried. If you are a smoker, that may be causing the problem and quitting may help.

Faust

Yeah, If you powder your nose or smoke, I would suggest avoiding that for a while. The reason I ask about inhalers is I am on preventatives that dull the sense of taste and smell, if I stop for a while it comes back. QG is right, It doesn't sound right for a 20 year old, its worth getting it checked out.
