Took advantage of the subconscious's superior ability to learn/apply motor skills.

I was teaching myself Lennart Green's Top-Shot with a deck of cards. I suspected that if I distracted my conscious mind with matching the cards to their values after shooting them over into my other hand, my subconscious would take over the shooting and do it more effectively.

I was fucking right. Before distracting my conscious mind, I could hardly do 2 cards in a row. After distracting my conscious mind with matching the card values, I did almost the whole deck in one go. First fucking try.

The mind is just as hackable as your neighbor's WEP password (Try their phone number), kids. Take advantage of that when you can.

My supervisor fucked me on my paycheck. I worked 19 hours of overtime in one week, and left that out of my timecard by his request so that he could put it in, himself.

When I told him how many hours he needed to add to my timecard, he emailed me back telling me that he essentially wasn't going to add it. He forgot I worked weekends.

So now I get that pay next paycheck, during a time where I also worked a holiday, meaning it's going to put me in a higher tax bracket for the pay period.

That'll teach me, I guess. I'll just email HR directly next time and Cc him. Fucker.

When you can do this without feeding into the chatter, this takes dedicated meditative practice at being calm at first, you will have the Mushin, or "No Mind"

The part of you that does all of your things "without thinking", as any martial or other artist may learn, is MUCH faster than the "thinking" of the neo-cortex and remembers feelings much like the way we tend to remember words. I almost see it as a separate mind requiring a special kind of focus to communicate with. It's why we do things like try to quit smoking or other viscerally biological habits and fail. It doesn't know what "Today I quit" means. It only knows what nicotine withdrawal feels like and how to signal to the cortex as to get more. Usually the cortex consents, and another falls off the wagon.

The trick is to get all pavlovian, but with clear intent signals coming from the cortex. This tends to be best done through voluntary distress. Rewards are a poorly understood concept to the body. There's only how things look, sound, and feel. In combat both need to find a perfect harmony and this manifests as a stillness devoid of fidgeting and much, if any, speech. The quietest person in the room is usually the strongest for a reason.

Would anyone be interested in a very in-depth, auto-biographical analysis of introspective experimentation? Testing of the psychological tendencies and neurological/physiological boundaries?

In my mid-late teens I experimented with compartmentalization, the extent of my control over what I had previously known to be uncontrollable neurological functions (Reward-system, and certain neuro-transmitter levels), and the aftermath of a mental break or two (Non-Anxiety related, kind of), and many other things. My findings, although possibly damaging in their acquisition, were quite interesting.

If some basic analysis is preferred, that's fine. But "in-depth" is essentially capable of making some people uncomfortable, considering it will include complete and total honesty. I will leave out some details of the complex aspects of some of my thoughts and feelings as they aren't necessarily important to the experiment, and would protect myself and others. I cannot stress to you enough, this analysis would be VERY fucking personal. But I'm willing to go this far for an outside perspective, and for SCIENCE. I think, if anyone is worthy, it would be you guys. I don't know if I'd post it on the site itself. But I'd be able to PM it to others on request, once it's written up.

I don't know if i follow the full extent of what you are talking about here but it sounds interesting. Please count me interested whenever your ideas crystallise.

In other news, Krakow is nice. Super warm at the moment but probably not verging on "Tucson Hot". Probably not going to have time to fit in Auschwitz this trip (and, as Cain mentioned, it seems like somewhat of a downer) but the underground exhibition showing all the medieval history onwards was great. The mixture of cultures here makes. for a fascinating place.

I hope this clears up for you soon.

Thanks, so do I.  My ribs hurt from coughing all night ever night.  I feel like ECH has been clog-dancing on my sternum.

ECH, why you clog dancing on Roger?  He is not dance floor.

Everything is a dance floor if you're angry enough.

Playing Monday catch up on posts and as wonderful as the day has been going so far.....this thought warms my heart greatly.

Hope that the bronchitis clear up soon. That's unpleasant enough on it's own, so without saying anything else to contribute to anxiety, hope it's just a particularly stubborn case of bronchitis.

My diploma came in!

Hilariously, it's smaller than my bachelor's diploma, because schools do what they want, so now I just need to put it in an epic frame.  :lulz:

I suppose now that I've have two framed diplomas, my stupid for-profit AS degree should also get a frame and be taken out of the cover.

That would be a record breaking high in Krakow.

Admittedly, it seems like it is hotter than it is there, due to the geography I think.  They also balance it out with some fairly cold winters (21F on average...down to -21F in the worst winters).

FRAME ALL THE DEGREES!

When mine come in, I plan to frame them all, including my GED, because dammit I am proud of that fucker.

Congratulations.  You must feel very (and justifiably) proud right now.

It's an odd feeling of finality.  That, and seeing the school supplies in stores already and hearing a sad trombone. I am looking at beginning a post-graduate specialist certificate in textile collection management up at Cal State Long Beach. Fortunately, it's mostly online, so I don't have to deal with that drive.

In other academia related news, The head teacher of my department (Industrial Maintenance) confided in me tonight that he had not hired a teacher once because, among other more legitimate sounding reasons, he was "Queer". Adding "He never said that he was, but if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck..."

My initial reaction was a sinking feeling and a deep sense of ennui. Later, it occurred to me that if it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, and you think it might be gay, it's probably Gladstone Gander.

I gotta keep smiling, after all.

If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it's probably Truman Capote.  So he wasn't totally off.
