Me, too. Last night was Cohen Night - I listened to everything he ever recorded I think.
just like in a dream
you'll open your mouth to scream
and you won't make a sound

you can't believe your eyes
you can't believe your ears
you can't believe your friends
you can't believe you're here

I think my favorite album is Variosu Postions from (i think) '84 . . . I like all his stuff, but I really like his 80s stuff.
"Soon all of us will have special names" — Professor Brian O'Blivion

"Now's not the time to get silly, so wear your big boots and jump on the garbage clowns." — Bob Dylan?

"Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)"
— Walt Whitman

Bella

Yeah, the stuff from the 60's is also great, but his distinctive style wasn't as developed yet, I think. The 80's stuff just rocks. I like Various Positions and I'm Your Man equally well - it all depends on what mood I'm in at the moment. Ten New Songs is also great.
just like in a dream
you'll open your mouth to scream
and you won't make a sound

you can't believe your eyes
you can't believe your ears
you can't believe your friends
you can't believe you're here

I haven't heard that one yet, I've heard both good and bad from people I know . . . I'll borrow it this wekend and take a listen.

My favourite Cohen song, though, is Famous Blue Raincoat - it gives me the chills.

My favorite at the moment is this one below, or else it's By the Rivers Dark, or Else it's Waiting for the Miracle or Tower of Song.

Take This Waltz

Now in Vienna there's ten pretty women
There's a shoulder where Death comes to cry
There's a lobby with nine hundred windows
There's a tree where the doves go to die
There's a piece that was torn from the morning
And it hangs in the Gallery of Frost
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take this waltz with the clamp on its jaws
Oh I want you, I want you, I want you
On a chair with a dead magazine
In the cave at the tip of the lily
In some hallways where love's never been
On a bed where the moon has been sweating
In a cry filled with footsteps and sand
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take its broken waist in your hand

This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz
With its very own breath of brandy and Death
Dragging its tail in the sea

There's a concert hall in Vienna
Where your mouth had a thousand reviews
There's a bar where the boys have stopped talking
They've been sentenced to death by the blues
Ah, but who is it climbs to your picture
With a garland of freshly cut tears?
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
Take this waltz it's been dying for years

There's an attic where children are playing
Where I've got to lie down with you soon
In a dream of Hungarian lanterns
In the mist of some sweet afternoon
And I'll see what you've chained to your sorrow
All your sheep and your lilies of snow
Ay, Ay, Ay, Ay
Take this waltz, take this waltz
With its "I'll never forget you, you know!"

This waltz, this waltz, this waltz, this waltz ...

And I'll dance with you in Vienna
I'll be wearing a river's disguise
The hyacinth wild on my shoulder,
My mouth on the dew of your thighs
And I'll bury my soul in a scrapbook,
With the photographs there, and the moss
And I'll yield to the flood of your beauty
My cheap violin and my cross
And you'll carry me down on your dancing
To the pools that you lift on your wrist
Oh my love, Oh my love
Take this waltz, take this waltz
It's yours now. It's all that there is
just like in a dream
you'll open your mouth to scream
and you won't make a sound

you can't believe your eyes
you can't believe your ears
you can't believe your friends
you can't believe you're here

hooplala

That's actually my second fave . . . now I will be singing "Ay ay ay ay" all morning.
"Soon all of us will have special names" — Professor Brian O'Blivion

"Now's not the time to get silly, so wear your big boots and jump on the garbage clowns." — Bob Dylan?

Chlorine

there's so many poems and songs...!

umm, from Whistling In The Dark:
There's only one thing that I know how to do well
And I've often been told that you only can do
What you know how to do well
And that's be you,
Be what you're like,
Be like yourself,
And so I'm having a wonderful time
But I'd rather be whistling in the dark

from Creeque Alley...
Zally said, "Denny, you know there aren't many
Who can sing a song the way that you do; let's go south."
Denny said, "Zally, golly, don't you think that I wish
I could play guitar like you."

from, um, poetry...i often tell a certain poem to myself over and over again when im trying not to think about anything, and it starts out, "A man of words but not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds." and sometimes i write that first part over and over.

i also say the poem thing willy wonka says in the tunnel to myself sometimes (there's no earthly way of knowing, which direction we are going, there's no knowing where we're rowing...)

The Doctor

This one reminds me of some of the people here:

Some say you're a troubled boy
Just because you like to destroy
All the things that bring the idiots joy
Well, what's wrong with a little destruction?

Pink Floyd - A Great Day For Freedom

On the day the wall came down
They threw the locks onto the ground
And with glasses high we raised a cry for freedom had arrived

On the day the wall came down
The Ship of Fools had finally run aground
Promises lit up the night like paper doves in flight

I dreamed you had left my side
No warmth, not even pride remained
And even though you needed me
It was clear that I could not do a thing for you

Now life devalues day by day
As friends and neighbours turn away
And there's a change that, even with regret, cannot be undone

Now frontiers shift like desert sands
As nations wash their bloodied hands
Of loyalty, of history, in shades of gray

I woke to the sound of drums
The music played, the morning sun streamed in
I turned and I looked at you
And all but the bitted residue slipped away...slipped away

Cain

Led Zeppelin - No Quarter

Close the doors, put out the light
You know they won't be home tonight
The snow falls hard and don't you know
The winds of Thor are blowing cold
They're wearing steel that's bright and true
They carry news that must get through
To build a dream for me and you
They choose the path where no-one goes
They hold no quarter,
They ask no quarter.

Walking side by side with death
The devil mocks their every step
The snow drives back the foot that's slow
The dogs of doom are howling more
They carry news that must get through
To build a dream for me and you
They choose the path that no one goes
They hold no quarter, they ask no quarter

Eldora, Oracle of Alchemy

Led Zeppelin - No Quarter is one of our favorites

that is a great song.

I'm listening to Clutch - Mice and Gods

Some yahoo yelled at me, saying 'GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH', and I thought, "I'm feeling generous today.  Why not BOTH?"

Cain

Now, time some poetry. Alcaeus' number 6 to be exact.  It doesnt seem to have a name, but its a good example of his Sapphic poetry, being more intact then most of his writings.

....men of Lesbos founded
this precinct, large and conspicous,
common to all, and in it set
altars of the blessed immortals;

And Zeus they titled God of Supplicants,
and you they called Aioloan, Glorious Goddess,
Mother of All, and this third one here
they named Kemelios,

Dionysos, devourer of raw flesh.  Come,
with friendly spirit listen
to our prayer, and from these hardships
and the pangs of exile deliver us.

But let the son of Hyrrhas be pursued
by those men's avenging Fury, since once we swore
wit solemn sacrafice
never to betray a single comrade of ours,

but either to lie clothed in earth,
dead at the hands of men who at the time got the mastery,
or else, by killing them,
to deliver the people from their sufferings.

But those things Pittakos did not take
to heart; without compunction
he trampled his oaths underfoot
and now he devours our city....

Idlwewild - Love Steals Us From Loneliness

Every step takes a beat of your heart
Through a city that's falling apart
On a night that rises and clears
In a sky that's clouded by years
My anger is a form of madness
So I'd rather have hope than sadness
And you said something
You said something stupid like
Love steals us from loneliness
Happy birthday
Are you lonely yet?

I misplaced your face in the shape of a smile
On a night that could never surprise me
Don't tell me you're afraid of the past
It's only the future that didn't last
You're kidding yourself, kidding yourself
You're going nowhere and you're going there fast

And you said something
You said something stupid like
Love steals us from loneliness
Happy birthday
Are you lonely yet?

You said something
You said something stupid like
Love won't shield us from loneliness
Happy birthday

You said something
You said something stupid like
Love steals us from loneliness
Happy birthday
Are you lonely yet?
Are you lonely yet?
Are you lonely yet?
Are you lonely yet?

The seer

This was written by someone with a very luciferific sentiment, you could say. I'm often left wanting to quote sections of it to certain people but sadly there's nothing explicit about the subject matter so it's one of things you have to post whole.

Filter ~ The Missing

Hey god told us that we made, a very big sin
You don't know where, to begin
He says turn the other cheek
but that seems kind of weak
I just wanna beat up, beat up the meek

He says you be a better man, if you'd stick with the plan
But I don't think I can, not with that kind of man

You love to be cruel
You love to be cruel
I'm not a good tool
Cauz you love to be cruel

What now? The cross has been greased
but I don't feel the heat nor the peace in the street
everybody feels it
So just bury it in the pit
with the best of the sick
ideological shit

You love to be cruel
You love to be cruel
I'm not a good tool
Cauz you love to be cruel

You love to be cruel
You love to be cruel
You love to be cruel
