Her EMPLOYER did that?

This is the sorta shit I remember when I hear folks whining (myself included) about how bad America is, though, to be honest, it's not like it can't be BETTER.  But it's surely not the WORST.

QuoteThis is one of those stories that just makes your blood run cold: Ronald William Brown of Largo, Florida, the 57-year-old proprietor of "Puppets Plus," has been charged with the possession of child pornography and of conspiring with another man to kidnap and then eat a child.

The Christian Television Network kids program Joy Junction regularly featured Brown and his ventriloquist dummy "Marty," who would warn about things like... pornography.

Brown, an active member of the Gulf Coast Church in Largo, and an accomplice, Michael Arnett, were planning to abduct a specific child who was a member of the church and who took part in Brown's "Puppet Ministry Kidz Zone" youth ministry program.

Homeland Security agents who searched Brown's home and tool shed yesterday discovered images of bound and gagged kids, photographs of dead children and a flier for a missing child.

Yeah, me too. I've scoured the web for it but I can't find it anywhere.

I had this wonderful little program that was specifically for manipulating pixel art, which I used to create a couple of emotes :1fap:

but then it spontaneously broke and would refuse to run, even after reinstalling :( If I still had it I would totally just shoop the horrormirth one back to its original form.

But seriously though: Cain's link is an extreme example of course, but do you suppose that the American South has so many "social conservatives" that want to use the law to tell everyone what to do because they have so many of the genuinely dangerous crazy people?

Ben Shapiro

WHAT THE FUCK! SERIOUSLY!

Well, when you think about it, there is bound to be a link between social conservatism and deviant behaviour.

Imagine you've been struggling, since a young age, with those kind of "urges".  You don't want to be a bad person, most people don't.  So, to try and combat those urges, you try and surround yourself with and gravitate towards the perceived "good" in society.  In Amurrica, that means Church, and its associated trappings.  Partly to avert suspicion that you are that kind of person (so, camouflage), but also, IMO, in a hope that "good influences" will turn you from your desires and needs.

Except, of course, they never do.

And frequently, the camouflage then becomes a cover under which the deviant behaviour can be expressed, incorporated into it.

Not to say that every social conservative is a wannabe serial killer and cannibal...only that, if you yourself had those desires and urges, wouldn't you try and control them?  If you were addicted to deviant pornography, wouldn't you preach its evils, speaking from very personal experience?  And so on and so forth.

I'm not sure I've made my point entirely clearly there, but hopefully you can sorta see what I mean?

Cainad (dec.)

Yeah, I think that's a good articulation of what I was thinking about. A more typical example would probably be the annual "Vehemently anti-gay conservative public figure caught drilling glory holes" scandal which has practically become a national ritual.

Yeah, exactly.  Or pedophiles in the Catholic Church.

This makes perfect sense, and also aligns with a lot of the studies that show that regular churchgoers tend to be less moral people than those who abstain.

See also "false consensus", the erroneous assumption that others think as we do. So the terrified and self-loathing deviant turns to fire-and-brimstone for help controlling his antisocial urges, and falsely believes that others experience the same urges; therefore, those who have not turned to religion or another rigidly controlling institution to control them are loose cannons, threats to society. Ergo, naturally, they must be controlled, lest the Godless heathens go on child-raping rampages.

It makes perfect sense, from that perspective. This is why they are so convinced that the unsaved and unchurched are wantonly fornicating baby-eating sinners. When they talk about the sins of the unsaved, they are giving us a blueprint to their own psyches.

That freaks me out.

Cain

Yes, it's ultimately a form of projection.  Their own mental model of the world is based on their experience and so, as far as they are concerned, pornography etc really are the cause of their problems, rather than a manifestation of them which is outside of most people's ordinary experiences.

Mesozoic Mister Nigel

Taking it even beyond that, I think about the people who say that without religion there's nothing to stop people from committing crimes, even killing each other. They're really talking about themselves, and that's disturbing.
