I like the idea of getting people all revved up for the apocalypse. I'd have some specific ideas for generating fake news which supports ludacris end-of-the-world scenarios, but they won't be useful for three or four years. =)

In the meantime, can someone remember where this letter was? Hoops?

A few weeks back someone showed up in Apple Talk (?) saying they got a mysterious letter in the mail with some cryptic stuff written on it. On the back it said IN 2012, LOOK TO THE SKIES

If I had received a letter like this randomly, it would have Freaked me the fuck Out.

well i'd say if someone wants to rearrange the BIP pamphlet, go ahead, do it, put it out there. why the hell not.

OTOH Lollercaust has been brewing for years now, and is slowly getting nowhere .. i'd love to see it happen

this has been brought up by a few people

At some point today I'll dump my archive of LOLLERCAUST material and we can sift through it and see what kind of funny text collage we can make.

Honestly, as time goes on the PD, in my opinion, will have less and less impact.  Because the one big mistake Hill and Thornley made when they put the PD together is in how then constructed their message.  Obvioulsy, the philosophies are timeless, but the way they framed it isn't necessarily so.  The 50s humor just doesn't translate very well in 2000.  Oh sure, some people will still get it, but many will be instantly turned off by it.  Think of anyone who hates the Three Stooges and that kind of old-school slapstick humor.  They will wrinkle their noses at the PD and not bother with it.

This was one of the reasons for the BIP.  An attempt to reach some younger cats who aren't going to get into the old-thyme humor.
I agree with you, though I personally had no problems with the humor. However, BIP has a message that I feel is substantially different than the one in the PD. It's a nice read, but I don't think it can be the updated PD. I understand you aren't going for that either, but it'd be a pity IMO if the ideas of the PD would be lost.

Well I don't see how those ideas would be lost. This is just another layer, another strata of Discordian thought. A bit newer. If it creates a tension between itself and the PD I think that's good - it encourages critical thought and introspection.

I think the "jailbreak" mindset is a very useful one. I think that in many ways, comfort is the enemy of self-awareness. The thing about the jailbreak isn't that we're encouraging you to leave everything behind, all the time. The point is to evaluate which bars in your prison are helpful and which you need to escape from.

Look at the Parable of the Gong for example. The guy broke out of his prison, but he's still acting in a robotic way, and that gets him in trouble in the end. (well actually it gets his mentor in trouble) "Black sheep are still sheep" and all that. A lot of us feel like that's one of the "Core Tenets" of Discordja (lol).

I played a character at a LARP who, in addition to being a paladin, had two cats he couldn't stop talking about. Their names were:

Mookie
and
Crystalfang Von Lyonstryke

What do you think is worse, fantasy names or neopagan usernames?

Principia Discussion / Discordian Spagology: LULZ/SRSB
February 17, 2008, 08:11:36 PM
LULZ/SRSB

LULZ and SRSB are twin brothers, born to the Goddess Eris herself. It is unclear who the father is, and therefore LULZ and SRSB have become known as the bastard children of Eris, and thus extending the pattern of the Original Snub into human procreative culture.

LULZ and SRSB are tasked with maintaining the fine balance between eristic and aneristic forces in the universe. As brothers do, they are locked in eternal play, rivalry, and self-reflection. Neither is absolute without the other.

after long thinking, and consulting some external help resources, it has come to my attention that the following unit is usually referred to as "cake" :

since this chocolaty food pretty much PWNS EVERYTHING in the entire cake/pie/cookie universe, my vote's for cake.

at least until somebody shows me pie that is better than the above cake.

High schools probably suffer a lot more, yes.

http://www.stateline.org/live/ViewPage.action?siteNodeId=136&languageId=1&contentId=18518

I know the media have a role in playing everything up, no matter how unlikely or out of the norm it is, but from reading Going Postal by Mark Ames, it seems schools use the shootings that take place in order to get rid of troublesome students they dont like, based on "the profile".  Equally, bullies are usually given a free hand to keep any "wierdos" in line. You can imagine how some of these Bible bashing freaks might react to a kid who wears a little too much black for their liking, or who has 'unwholesome interests' in terrible things like wearing trenchcoats and listening to shitty bands.

How is Going Postal, by the way? That's on my I'd-Really-Like-To-Read-This-But-I-Don't-Have-The-Time list.
