The administration's top counterterrorism adviser said Friday that the al Qaeda group based in Yemen poses a greater threat to Americans than Osama bin Laden's group based in Pakistan.
John Brennan, assistant to the president for homeland security and counterterrorism, said the Yemen-based group, al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, is "increasingly active" in reaching out to find terrorist recruits, even in the United States.

Looks like the warhawks have a target all picked out.
US Special Forces are already operating in Yemen (under the ever-useful cover of "offering training") and with the CIA carrying out drone attacks on suspected militants, with the Yemeni government running interference (Wikileaks let that one out of the bag, but appearances must be maintained). Sounds like a war to me.
What interests me is the lack of coverage of US military involvement in Uganda.
I looked up Uganda, it's not just there but it seems we are in bed with several North African countries now. I did not know this. WTF.
China is buying up African resources and using the money to buy friends on the continent.
There are also lots of fundamentalist religious leaders in Africa who have good links with politically active American pastors, such, as Uganda's current leaders.
I also notice the two kill words in almost everything I could find to read.
Oil.
Terrorists.
So, the US really may be in a state of permanent war already.
IIRC, the US has been at war in one form or another for all but 10 or 12 years in the entire history of the country.
To put it another way, we've been on the leading edge of the evolution from "war as an extension of statecraft" to "war as a replacement for statecraft".
Also, Obama is hiring mercenaries at a rate that would make Bush blush. And there is no oversight as to where these guys are serving at all.
So. The U.S. is the wolf in sheeps clothing.

I just reposted the Fabian Window in Horrorology with the story as found in Canada Free Press. It's an interesting opinion.
Al-Qaeda in Yemen are a greater threat than Bin Laden's Afghan network.
That's because there are about 100 Al-Qaeda fighters in Afghanistan (NATO intelligence sources) and there are about 200 Al-Qaeda in Yemen members.
Ooh, scary.

Of course they don't wan't him found. As a longtime funder, and business partner of the Bush Dynasty, he has friends in high places. And as a former C.I.A Operative, he probably has papers on just about everyone. And give him a shave, and a business suit, and take that silly turban off him, you could walk past him in the street, or speak to him on the bus, and be none the wiser. The best story of his whereabouts has to be the James Bond style impenetrable secret underground cave complex in Bora Boru. The chances are, he's still buzzing around the World, under a false identity, still working for The Company. Or he could be dead already.
He's Schrodinger's Terrorist. He can be alive, and dead, at any given moment, depending on which option is most expedient at the time. The certainty of which state he currently exists in, will only be finally ascertained when his head is on a spike, in full public view. Even then, I wouldn't be surprised if he rose up again after 3 days. There are Sufis who believe he is a Djinn, and returns to the desert sands, back to his Oily powerbase. To repose in his Perfect Garden of Delights. So all in all, would you want to find the fucker? And if you did, would you be the one to point the finger, and shout out that the Emperor is walking around, Bollock naked in his fine new clothes? :lulz:

CAIRO — A storage facility housing Yemen's radioactive material was unsecured for up to a week after its lone guard was removed and its surveillance camera was broken, a secret U.S. State Department cable released by WikiLeaks revealed Monday.
The message, dated Jan. 9, relates the worries of a Yemeni official, whose name was removed, about the unguarded state of a National Atomic Energy Commission facility. He pushes the U.S. embassy to urge his own government to secure the material.
"Very little now stands between the bad guys and Yemen's nuclear material," the official is quoted as saying in the cable, which appeared on the website of the British Guardian newspaper.

QuoteSenior American military commanders in Afghanistan are pushing for an expanded campaign of Special Operations ground raids across the border into Pakistan's tribal areas, a risky strategy reflecting the growing frustration with Pakistan's efforts to root out militants there.
The proposal, described by American officials in Washington and Afghanistan, would escalate military activities inside Pakistan, where the movement of American forces has been largely prohibited because of fears of provoking a backlash.
The plan has not yet been approved, but military and political leaders say a renewed sense of urgency has taken hold, as the deadline approaches for the Obama administration to begin withdrawing its forces from Afghanistan.
America's clandestine war in Pakistan has for the most part been carried out by armed drones operated by the C.I.A. . . . But interviews in recent weeks revealed that on at least one occasion, the Afghans went on the offensive and destroyed a militant weapons cache.
The decision to expand American military activity in Pakistan, which would almost certainly have to be approved by President Obama himself, would amount to the opening of a new front in the nine-year-old war, which has grown increasingly unpopular among Americans. . . . - ne senior American officer said, "We've never been as close as we are now to getting the go-ahead to go across."
The officials who described the proposal and the intelligence operations declined to be identified by name discussing classified information.
I have my suspicions. Filikins is a nice guy, and wrote one of the best books on the War on Terror (if you don't have The Forever War, buy or steal it now), but the Pentagon have unwittingly used him to leak misinformation before now. And lets not forget how the Pentagon used journalists in the Gulf War to carry out a
spectacular case of strategic deception.
I mean, it could be the case. It could equally be the case this is being leaked to put pressure on Obama. Or that lots of SF guys are being rolled out somewhere else - too many for it to stay hidden for long - and this is being used as the cover reason.
I guess we'll know more if a rash of bombings should mysteriously take place in the Pakistani tribal region in coming months.

It's like a cancer, it just keeps spreading. We have probably had black-ops going on in Pakistan for years.
Yes, and no. Drone attacks were carried out under Bush, though far less than under Obama (change!) and the CIA does have its own paramilitary arm, but Special Forces were never given the go-ahead to infiltrate the country en masse. Probably because of the not entirely ungrounded suspicion that bombing Pakistan and sending the military into Pakistan is basically an invasion of Pakistan and will no doubt make whatever government is in power about as popular as a shit sandwich, even if most Pakistanis would love to see those tribal regions retards strung up by their necks.
Would the Pakanstani attitude be different if it were an all British force that went in? I am unsure of the relations between the countries.
Possibly. Though lately the relationship between the two has been strained by Cameron trying to look hardline against terrorism (and failing miserably and being forced to backpedal).
Mostly, Pakistanis want Pakistan to sort it's problems out. Like most people around the world, they're nationalists. Can you imagine the uproar if Mexico invaded America to stop the illegal gun trade that is currently supplying the cartels, which threaten both countries? The issue with that is the military are more inclined to support Islamic fundamentalism than the average Pakistani citizen (General Zia provides a good history lesson here), and that means they aren't exactly fighting it with enthusiasm.
It seems that any occupation/invasion would have to begin with taking control of the nukes given the unrest and weakness of the government. That in itself could be a bigger problem than the effort is worth.

I could give a shit less about people's sexual preferences. this integration would be a step in a positive direction. a significant % of my service is opposed, but hey whatever.
as far as the DREAM goes, i can't claim to be very knowledgeable about it
edit
from my basic knowledge of it...
it sounds like it's a measure to take people that work hard, want to educate themselves and stay out of trouble and allow them to become permanent residents. who would be opposed?

The DREAM Act
Over three million students graduate from U.S. high schools every year. Most get the opportunity to test their dreams and live their American story. However, a group of approximately 65,000 youth do not get this opportunity; they are smeared with an inherited title, an illegal immigrant. These youth have lived in the United States for most of their lives and want nothing more than to be recognized for what they are, Americans.

i edited my above post. but no, i'm not opposed to anything like this. it should have already been in place, if not part of the path for illegals to become full citizens

I blame it on seasonal depression. It's so hard to hate others when you can't stop hating yourself.
No self hatred allowed. Redirect it.
I've been trying all day. Just can't do it.
PL isn't really worth the effort, anyway.
He does the same shit every time he comes here. And, Memnoch-style, he almost always posts in the political section to the exclusion of everything else.
Or at least I haven't noticed his posts anywhere else.

This is evidence that OBL is dead...HOW, exactly?
no, just something unrelated. but he's dead though
