I like the word but, when used in that context, it does fill me with homicidal urges. The same people seem to say "pacifically" a lot - also has me reaching for the alibis.

Adam, being an adherent of the Lower Pacifical Church, was one of the more ineffectual additions to an already questionable town constabulatory.  Pacificalist followed the teaching of Bang - Meh, a recent day guru who insisted that the way to salvation and enlightenment was to offer no resistance or expression of will against the will of others, on the ground that such inter human conflict was the root of all inter human conflict and strife.  An adherent should simply allow the opposer their way, should any level of resistance, dissatisfaction, or disagreement be displayed, and rely on the conscience of the other person to shame themselves into consideration.  Bang - Meh was martyred exemplifying his own philosophy when the local Red Cross forgot to keep track of how often they sent him requests to donate blood.

Needless to say, the only things shamed by the actions of a Pacificalist were Anarchism and Communism, who promptly lost the title "Things which ONLY work in theory" by comparison.

Conversations with a Pacificalist were usually about as productive as verbal intercourse with wet toilet tissue, and conversations between pacificalist adherents were known to be lengthy affairs of generalist statements direct at no one as the two tried to figure out an entirely un offensive topic upon which to converse.  They usually ended with statements about plain lettuce.  One entire sect of monks had been attempting to reconcile Pacificalism and E Prime for many years, to formulate a perfectly non offensive form of speach, but their degree of success is uncertain as non of them have spoken since begining.

Adam's employ with the town guard was secured as concessions to a religious rights advocacy group composed of people who have never had their house broken into, or been mugged.  In truth, Adam himself did not even WANT employ with the Guard, but did not wish to offend the vigorous and excited advocates, who were so thrilled with the concept of displayign the town's tolerance and diversity that even a Pacificalist could become a success in a town run oepration such as the Gaurd, did not stop to pay heed to Adam's pacifical treatment of his own inner wish NOT to have such a job in the first place.

The Town itself could find no reasonable way to fire or reasign Adam, the mayor professing to rather "Cover his bare ass in birdseed and take a walk through a harpy nest." than have to deal with that group again.  The Chief handled this much more tactfully (having a better understanding of the advocates, and Pacificalism from several "sensitivity sessions" he was forced to attend.), and assigned Adam to patrol the south wall where nothing ever happened.  Adam, having religious reason to neve GAURD anything, was instructed to hand a similar sensitivity flyer to anyone he might think questionable and ring the alarm bell immediately.
