This year, we are thinking of changing the Edinburgh date from August 23rd (or closest Saturday to) to a mid-june date - the reasons being numerous and based mostly on cost and availability of accomodation in Edinburgh in August.
I have chosen the date Saturday 12th June for now, though this is up for being changed if enough people need it to be. Discussion of DoD is as usual still mostly done on the dedicated board on POEE, but for exposure to more people who may or may not want to come up for it I'm posting it here too.
NOTE: There are still plans to run a second DoD event in the southron reaches of the UK this year, most likely around the traditional August date. As I will probably have my hands full with "Movin' To Southampton" plans around that time it may make more sense for someone else to arrange it.
god damnit, i would be there this year if the london town/scotland pillage wasn't pushed back until next year.
Note: DoD is an annual event.
I really really want to come to this. I got my passport and everything!

HOW ABOUT
we make DoD an international event
AND
on that weekend, spags all over the globe gather by region at their local pub(s) with other spags from their neighborhood and host the event here on the board?

It's never really taken off outside the Scot Spag Cabal, really.
I volunteer my back yard. Look out for chicken poop.
I'll start a thread so as not to crap up the Edinburgh thread.
12th sounds good for me, i finish exams on the 2nd of june i think, and i still have a room till the 25th, so that really is ideal :)

We
can change it by a week to the 19th if it's better for you. It seems mid june is best for everyone though, so it would have to be either the 12th or the 19th.
The way my treatment is going I won't be fit for work by then so my time will be pretty much free.
Ok I'm gonna try and find out what the plans are then, since my mother also turned 60 earlier this year, they are celebrating with a trip to Spain, but that will be before june.

scotland, africa, SAME THING RIGHT?
South Africa is pretty awesome! Plus you get to practice speaking Dutch there :D Except it's all weird and mangled old-Dutch African Dutch strangeness, which is hilarious. Especially African Dutch hiphop :) [it sounds just like Watskeburt to me, except it's a real language, not over-the-top street slang soup]
im going to see if i can pretend to be a dutch person. as long as no one talks to me i will blend in with the fans.... :lulz:

Carry on.
We are going ahead with a June 12th (a saturday, as ever) date for the Edinburgh DoD, two months from now, so if anyone wants to come then now would be a good time to start making arrangements for time off work/travel/accomodation etc.
So far, it seems to the usual suspects signed up for this: Myself, Pixie, Synaptyx, Trip.
It would be good to have a few more people show for this one to justify the date change (making it easier and cheaper to get to Edinburgh to maximise attendance), but of course I am not holding my breath :D
Note to Englishers and itinerent Scotspags and other foreign types: There are still plans to run a South Coast DoD in Southampton or Bournemouth on or around the 23rd of August.
Hey all the cool kids are coming.
Show up spags!
TEH 12th!?! Are you MAD!?
Should be fine. Just reminded me that I should probably think about accomodation though... does a park bench count as organising? :p

On a only slightly related subject, RB and Trip: you better be getting your shit together for getting to Edinburgh on June 12th.
Or I'll "Customise" a guitar on your heads.
I have teh accomodation! Just need a train. On a scale of 1-Holy FUCK, what kind of hangover should I be expecting? thus what train would be advisable homewards? *answer in Edinburgh thread please* :)
Pfft. Making me find and bump this thread and not righteously thread-jacking your other one. That'll be another pint you owe me, RB.
Also, for hangovers it really depends how much you drink. You don't HAVE to drink. Of course, if you keep pace with P3nT and I, you may well be feeling a little delicate on Sunday morning.
We should consider getting some flyers and such arranged I suppose. Any postering and leaflets will be more readily seen in June than in August due to it not being right in the middle of the Edinburgh Festivals.
Last year my liver needed a reformat.
Srsly. I had teh tremors.
i will try to get enough moneys together.
if i get a steady job before that time: i wont be ashamed to borrow for something like this.
though august may be a better idea for mea.
I BOOKED MY FLIGHT TODAY!
17e Bremen to Edinburgh + 8e back + 2x5e random Ryan Air administration costs = 35 euros whoooooo :D
Now to book a middle-of-the-fucking-night return ticket to Bremen Airport (which is actually not in Bremen) for 30 euros and I'm DONE!
65 euro = Cheapest DoD tickets EVAR :D :D
oh and something like 3 pound for the bus from Edinburgh Airport to the Black Scottish Alien Mothership Disguised As A "Monument" (I know better ...)
dunno if you can get cheap flights like that from where you are Regret, Schiphol airport taxes are pretty steep. You might even want to consider going via Bremen, if you book quickly you got a good chance you can get the same flight for a similar price, when there are not many seats left the site says "ONLY A FEW SEATS LEFT!!!" and it didn't say that. But you should probably do it tomorrow or at least this week. You also need to borrow a creditcard to be able to book online (I'm assuming that, like me, you don't have one, and these backward peoples never heard of iDeal). Also I got 0 bags and no insurance to get at this price. I get my travel insurance elsewhere since I'll be making some more trips (and going to Germany often), but you basically need it for the off-chance that you break your leg or something and suddenly get presented with a zillion bucks of hospital bill and re-book your flight to have place for a cast leg and and and you really dont wanna know what accidents in foreign countries actually cost. I will shut up now.
000h thanks trip!
Sadly i broke my friend's xbox360 and now I have literally no money left over for fun things :(
So the only way i would make it to DoD is if i get this crappy job(the one i am now doing as a temp) i applied for and consequently bum some money.

9 pounds a night  that's not bad at all, indeed, for just a place to crash those beds look affordably sleepable!
Hey, Regret, have you thought about crashing places yet?
If we all stay in the same place (such as Brodies), it's probably most convenient for getting about and back.
Also, ATTENTION SYNAPTYX!! maybe you know about this already, but my friend sent me this link: http://www.taxitravels.co.uk/nightbus/
Which is a bus that goes back and from kirkcaldy, so maybe you don't have to leave at 23h to catch the last train this year?
Pixie I'm not allergic to anything! And there are hardly any foods that I don't like.
So, so far that is food for 4.
Any more takers on the lunch stuff need to speak up.
About the booze-bribes, I'm not sure if I can bring a bottle of Dutch Booze over, btw. Since I'll be travelling with hand luggage only, and you can't bring any liquids in hand luggage and such ... I could ask them if jello shots are okay?
Although whatever you buy in the tax-free area is considered "safe". Except Bremen is a tiny airport I forget what their taxfree booze shop looks like. Buuuuuut it is in GERMANY, which means that, even though we might not be able to get Weduwe Joustra (just to show you spags what an average non-disgusting bitter tastes like instead of Jaeger), strong liquor is nearly half-price in Germany, so tax-free even cheaper maybe (yeah the difference is in the taxes also, but "tax free" shops in Schiphol are still expensive as fuck).
And if all else fails we'll get some in the UK :-P Probably beers then, because we don't need to carry them that far and I prefer beers over strong liquor for not getting immediately completely shitfaced.

My diet data:
Don't force me to drink a lot milk unless you want me to fart alot.
I need a lot of iron in my diet or i get lightheaded, but it takes about 2 weeks of no red meat (or other high iron food) before i feel anything, so don't worry about that too much.

OKayyyyyy I made the reservations :D Fuck, that was a hassle, they indeed required a creditcard, but just for ID and charging if you don't show up, we have to pay at the hostel itself. So I got my mum's cc, but then when I had the guy on the phone he insisted that he needed to speak the owner of the creditcard in person.. Well I guess I can't blame him for exercising proper security, except that if I had made my reservation online it probably wouldnt have been a problem .. :-P
I'm sorry to say that I was too late for the cheapest 9 pound beds, so instead I got the slightly less cheaper 12 pound beds. Maybe they're bigger?
