In this forum i could very well imagine a thread with the issue of Hitler being less racist than Obama being taken seriously and dissected.

But just pages and pages of spammed "lol fag", i wouldnt think so.

Just take a look at the magic thread in this subforum, theres even some people playing devil's advocate for stuff they dont even believe in.

Now on a serious register:

So yes, they might be "human and real", but I find it really hard to take into account a troll's feelings when they are lashing out and taking it out on you.

Also, sometimes the postures are so outrageous, that it can only be from a mentally deranged person (as in mentally ill, or ideologicaly crazy); i havent run into any "mentally ill" but i have into a lot of "ideologicaly crazy", that just wont listen to logical arguments.

And btw, we should castrate all homosexuals, because we all know they are plotting to make more of their breed, by impregnating accomplice lesbians. Before you know it, every window in every house would have peachy curtains, with couscous overflowing the kitchen.

Wait! im not trolling! Why arent you taking me seriously!?

Yes, instead of IP banning the troll that image-bombs the forum, we should ask them what are they going thru in their life at the moment, and if we can make them feel any better. They are human like us, and excluding them only makes us worse than them, while also wrecking the opportunity to help a fellow.

Quote from: WIKIPEDIA
On her 18th birthday, Bella Swan wakes up from a dream in which she sees herself as an old woman. She expresses her distaste with growing older than her boyfriend Edward Cullen, a vampire who stopped aging physically at 17. Despite her lack of enthusiasm, Edward's adoptive family throws Bella a birthday party. While unwrapping a gift, Bella gets a paper cut, causing Edward's brother, Jasper, to become overwhelmed by her blood's scent and attempt to kill her. Realizing the danger that he and his family pose to Bella, Edward ends their relationship, and the Cullens leave Forks, Washington permanently.

OMFG GUAYS !!!!!

I think no network would make a show out of it... its based too much on real issues and politics.

But it is a great idea.

The problem is that you fail to see, that this is an example between building your worldview around fears and reactions compared to buildint your worldview around what most likely is true (in other words, that were most likely turning into worm food, rather than go play with puppies in a garden).

I don't fail to see that, you're putting words in my mouth.  To my infinite regret I took your words at face value, but nonetheless they were not mine.  I never said the illusions that give rise to a particular worldview are always based on fear.  In fact they are often based on much more useful emotions, like a desire to do good.

And you say yourself, we can only ever know what is "most likely" true.  That's a matter of opinion, where reasonable (and unreasonable) people can disagree.  The people that I pity are the ones who think they have a monopoly on Truth.

I know you didnt mean only fear gives rise to these illusions, i just found it the best example.

Did you read this entire fread? Im thinking we are going at least the second time around some of the arguments that have already been said.

In a simpler fashion: not all worldviews are the same.

Right, because all worldviews are merely reactions to our fears and desires and everybody creates fairylands to have solace.

Well said! :mittens:

Im sorry, that was sarcastic.

Yeah, I noticed that a little too late, c'est la vie.

And i only get this big fucking anxiety that fuels my cigarrette addiction and hedonistic behaviour.

Sounds like fun, where's the problem?

We all know we are gonna die, and i think the majority fears it.

Religion is a rationalization for that fear (when we die, we go to this big garden with candy and sluts).

I might.

I don't particularly follow the "all worldviews are equal" point of view.  Maybe in the sense that all worldviews are worldviews.  But in what terms are they equal?  Which parts align?

I can see the usefulness of possibly looking at various worldviews and trying to determine an underlying thread of commonality but equal?

I have a hard time swallowing that one without more information.

Thanks Burns!  I agree, thats sounds pretty tough to defend and I didn't really make that point very thoroughly.  My point there is that all worldviews are arrived at in the same way.  Whether you're a stone cold rationalist or a mystic, the interaction between your mind and the world is equally predicated on your worldview.  Does that make sense?

Right, because all worldviews are merely reactions to our fears and desires and everybody creates fairylands to have solace.

Im getting a vague idea now...

But obviously i feel for it as a real story first.

ECH is actually of the most tolerant and newcomer-friendly people, and seeing how hes reacting to you, you can see how things are gonna go for you if you dont change your attitude.
