Hope fluffy won't try & kill me now...

I submit to you that many of you never intended to discuss those subjects to begin with.

This is interesting.

Suppose, like Quakers, we only posted when we had something to say on the Nature of Eris, or on an aspect of quantum psychology we needed clearing up, or a new approach to O:M.

These boards would be deader than dot org when the trolls go to sleep.

But further, I put it to you: Many of the "fluff" postings here are actualyy discordian/erisian training in non-linear thinking.

...where linear Aristotelian logic works with familiar associations or generalizations (called "Laws of Thought," of course, by those who have made Aristotle their Idol), Po thinking moves laterally with unfamiliar associations. Dr. de Bono claims that Po thinking unleashes creativity and measurably improves students' ability to solve unfamiliar problems.

Thinking in this way often leads to forms of logic such as Po which can be described as open-ended brainstorming for connections and new meanings. These in turn are intimately linked to the modern scientific approach called Systems Theory.

Of course, some Po thinking may lead to poetry or great surrealist paintings, instead of science. There is no guarantee as to where Po will land you, which is part of the justification for thinking it relates to that mystery we call 'creativity.'

This so-called "po" thinking is essentially trying to jam two supposedly unrelated topics together, and then seeing what comes out of it.  Such methods, like a decent burroughs cut-up, are not always coherent and successful, but new, fresh approaches to thinking often spring out of it.

I would propose that the non-sequitor "fluff" that goes on here is actually a crash-course in non-linear thinking, designed to help us stay "out of the box" and continue to think about things in new and creative ways.

So, there is my take on things: that the so-called "fluff" is in actuality, Erisian Esoterica designed to alter your perceptions of reality.

Let's say I take a deck of playing cards, and I make a house of cards with it.  I have not "destroyed" the playing cards, but I have "created" the house of cards.

Then, let's say I take a picture of it with a digital camera.  I have not "destroyed" the house of cards, nor the cards themselves, but have "created" a picture, which could be considered "art"

Then, let's ay I reproduce and print the picture hundreds of times, to make an istallation exhibit based upon repitition.  I have now "created" another work of art, without "destroying" the original picture, the house of cards, or the cards themselves.

And it's turtles, turtles, turtles, all the way down.

Your word "creation (1)" does not equal my word "creation (2)"

creation (1) means making more of the little bits which universe is made out of, from scratch, from nothing.

creation (2) means an intentional arrangement and combination of said bits in such a way that did not exist before in that space-time.

and so on, through your other definitions.

Are you implying we don't recognize when you rip off Cat's Cradle?  Cuz that would be a really stupid assumption.

But to be honest, I don't feel PD forums are supposed to be a HQ for setting up, and boasting of, jakes/pranks.  Hell, O:M is only one small part of Discordianism, et al.

I've taken Erisianism as a means of self-improvement, not a social uprising movement.  And I think these boards assist in the development and encouragement of the self to think for it... um... self.


Not to mention it's good for a laugh, something that's hard to find in these deparate times of ours.

If someone wants to set up a wholly private and secret board with carefully screened meberships and whose purpose it is to subvert the global paradigm, then by all means do it.  

But to complain that a public message board doesn't offer up evidence of revolution is ridiculous.
