I hear them, and I sense what it is.  It's the call of Tucson, the sirens of the desert, they are calling to me.  For the moment, I'm safe.  But I know what they want, and I can't go through with it.

To explain to the best of my abilities to non-Tucsonites, the call stirs a particular feeling or urge in the prey's mind or heart.  The "Siren's Harmony," it's called.  It aids the song of Tucson in luring its children out into the wastes, to consume them, body (if they're lucky) and soul.

Every time a Harmony begins, it is a soft refrain.  The target hears the beginnings of discontent.  The music swells slightly, and the damned hear the gist of their "quest."  The song eventually builds to a cacophony of jangling, tumultuous nerves and instincts screaming to follow the call, whatever it may be, wherever it may lead, and damned be to anyone standing in the way.  Denying the call for too long ends in madness or a kind of death in one's head.

Tucson the God-City, as has been intimated before, wants only to bring harm and hell to everyone it touches, even briefly.  Pleasure soiled, love tainted, hearts, lives, souls all lying broken in the street; these are what Tucson wants, and Tucson will have them.  And the more you kick and scream, the harder the end will be for you.

So yes, I hear a gentle swell in the music, ever present to The Fearful, and I hear what my god wants.

My god wants to see me run.

He wants to play a game.

I awoke to find my knees resting in dirty clothes pile (mostly just worn a few hours and cast off after a sweaty day), my mind saying to represent the filth of the City Most Holy, with not a little satisfaction.  Hands came together, steepled; they rose above my head, back arching in a supplicating posture.  Spare the little one, the thought said.  The waist bent, and my forhead was pressed into a clothing strewn floor. Spare him, please.  Supplicate, genuflect, beg/pray.  Supplicate, genuflect, beg/pray.

I regained control (I believe the City made the imperative too strong to resist), and returned to bed.  I am afraid I'll never see him again, alive or dead.

"I remember what I said, those months ago.  I didn't realize you would take it so seriously, I was only joking.

I know you're taking me, and soon, too.  Can't you just let up a little bit between now and then?  I need to see that look on a face when they look at me, I need to hear that tone, those words, leave a pair of lips when they speak to me.  I would throw almost anyone under the bus that you drive, almost anyone.  Just leave him, and the little one, and her, and theirs, leave them out of it as well. Leave them for the time it takes, and it will be such a short time.  There are so many others you can focus on, and your reach is long and cruel.  I dream of what you'll do when you find them. And you'll find them all, one day at a time, and with all the time to find them in.  But please, it's just such a short time, grant me this last little mercy.

Please."

A frightened Tucsonite, taking a big chance by attracting attention to herself, and begging pointlessly to the God-city for mercy.

I agree, TGRR.  The music has become jilted, wavery, indistinct, and wrong.  I can't detect the clashing of The Weird, only an allargando of the Individual Curse creating a duet with the Slumber.  I can only hope that Tucson is hibernating, and not returning to sleep for good, because you know what that[/] would mean.

Not going into details, in case the people who told me about this misunderstood the situation.

I am instead going to rely on a policy of horrendous, out-of-proportion retaliation in the event that anything IRL occurs.

What?

Okay, I'll bite. If you're such a studly bi dude into gender equality, why the hell wasn't your op addressing men as well? Why just women?

Because the dynamic I mentioned in the O.P. is all but nonexistent in male-male online dating.

I'm sick of playing whack-a-mole and addressing the thousand concerns and misrepresentations that have emerged in this thread. So I'm throwing the towel in on this one. Thanks for the help everyone. Goodnight.

There is one thing I think you don't know about OKC.

Well, he probably won't be coming back, but I want to know.

Dammit, Fracture, our abrasive awfulness has chased off another quality contributor.

newsfeed? :lulz:

Done.

Special Abilities

Chaotic Nature (Su) - The forces of chaos so surround and fill this creature that it affects others who attack it. It gives the zaug damage resistance 5 that cannot be bypassed (and stacks with its 10/lawful DR), and a deflection bonus of +3.

Dire Contact (Su) - A creature that attempts to speak telepathically with a zaug or read its mind must make a Will save (DC 15) or go permanently insane--normally becoming catatonic, as though feebleminded, but sometimes becoming homicidal.  The creature must make a save each time it tries to use telepathy on the zaug, but it does not need to make the save if the zaug is the one communicating. In other words, this is an in-only defense.  The save DC is Charisma based.

Revulsion (Su) - Non-outsiders who look upon the zaug must make a Will saving throw (DC 15) or become either nausteated (1-10 d20) or sickened (11-20 d20). Whether or not a character saves, they are only affected once every 24- hours. The save DC is Charisma based.

Disease (Ex) - The claws, bite, and spew of a zaug carry devil chills (as per Core Rulebook 557, but the save is Fort 16 instead of 14).

Corruption Spew (Su) - Five times per day, a zaug can breathe a sixty foot cone of horrific, corrosive spew filled with rotting flesh, disease, poison, and even disgusting vermin such as maggots, worms, and flies.  The spew inflicts 10d6 points of acid damage (Refex DC 19 for half).  Further, anyone failing the save must make an additonal Fortitude save to avoid devil chills, as well as a Will save to avoid revulsion, regardless of if the character has made or failed the initial save against revulsion.

Vulnerabilities A zaug takes %50 again as much damage from force effects such as magic missile. It also takes %50 again as much damage from positive channeling and cure spells if it is targeted. Further, it does not need to be targeted during a positive burst to take damage from damage from it, though it only takes half damage. (example: Kit bursts to heal her party. The zaug still takes damage, even though creatures would normally need to be targeted to take damage.)

My death on this forum aside, (which may soon happen as if this forum does move to fast I wont be able to keep up,) I suspect i'm supposed to feel animosity towards quite a few people here already. It's not really happening.

That's okay, we'll pick up the slack.

After reading the last couple of pages, I think I must have completely misunderstood the thinking behind the OP.

I don't know, if there are going to be rules and such, I will not be participating.  Sorry.  :|

Where are you seeing any mention of rules?

I shouldn't have used rules....

I know rules =/= goals =/= deadlines, they just fall into the same avoidance category for me.

I got that from...

Quote from: Jenne on March 02, 2011, 03:30:18 PM
If PD.com is to become a place of ALL GOALS ALL THE TIME!!! then I probably will post less than I do now.

...which makes me very uneasy.  Sounds like work....
AFAIK, this project is intended to hook us up with slike minded people in order to work on projects together. Nothing with rules or deadlines. That said I do not think "socialising" counts. Not that there shouldn't be socializing shouldn't be allowed on my PD, but that it shouldn't be part of THIS project. There are plenyty of people who want to socialise. Fewer people are into the projects though, so this is a useful tool for them.

It was more, I think, a project designed to give people help with carrying out ideas and personal goals by brainstorming and so on.  People who are close to each other generally can get together on their own
