This fits perfectly with my "God's a dick" theory.

I've often referred to that as the "Malevolent Deity" theory.

But I'm more inclined to believe that God didn't do this, WE did this and blamed it on God.  I refer to this as "God is a Patsy".

Or maybe not.  Maybe he just gives jackasses enough rope to hang themselves with.  You always hear commercials about how YOU DESERVE whatever they're selling.  Well, maybe - just maybe - the whole "God's plan" thing is to give people what they DESERVE if they scream loud enough about it.

That notion of an afterlife makes me laugh.  Not a good, healthy laugh.  No.

Also, if God intended that rape, then how can we possibly punish the rapist?  He had no choice in the matter, did he?  In fact, if everything is predestined, then there's no free will, and therefore no sin.

Way to go, Mourdock:  You just made your entire religion vanish in a puff of apologism.

QuoteDuring his second term as state treasurer, it was discovered that $526 million dollars in tax revenues were placed in the wrong bank accounts. When the first discovered, less than half that amount was found, the balance being found at a later date. Auditors are still looking into the state finances to see if additional monies were mishandled. With over half a billion dollars floundering in the wrong bank accounts, local governments throughout the state, who should have received these funds, were forced to cut back on services, including laying off personnel.

QuoteGreg Abbott, the Republican Attorney General of Texas, issued a stern warning this week to members of a United Nations-affiliated delegation expected to be on hand to monitor voting at polling places around the country on Election Day.

In a letter to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, a body created by U.N. charter and responsible for helping to ensure the integrity of elections, among other tasks, Abbott warned the diplomatic poll-watchers that their involvement in U.S. elections could have strong legal repercussions.

"It may be a criminal offense for OSCE's representatives to maintain a presence within 100 feet of a polling place's entrance," he writes. "Failure to comply with these requirements could subject the OSCE's representatives to criminal prosecution for violating state law."

QuoteUPDATE: 3:10 p.m. EST -- Ambassador Janez Lenarčič, director of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), responded in a letter to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, saying that Abbott's threat put the state of Texas at odds with an agreement between the body and state authorities.

"The threat of criminal sanctions against OSCE/ODIHR observers is unacceptable," Lenarčič said. "The United States, like all countries in the OSCE, has an obligation to invite ODIHR observers to observe its elections."

Lenarčič took issue with insinuations that officials in the group would meddle with elections, reiterating that they were bound by national laws and regulations, as well as their own strict code of conduct.

Suck it, Abbott.

You know who else hates the OSCE monitoring their elections?  Russia.

To be fair, there is large evidence that the OSCE covered up Yeltsin stealing the vote of hundreds of thousands of Chechens who his soldiers and security forces killed or displaced, so....

Somehow, I do not think this is uppermost in Republican minds when they worry about election monitoring, however.
