Title: Jenne's Vacation Photos
Post by: Jenne on July 26, 2010, 12:34:31 AM
Warning:  image size is a bit big.  May take a while to load, sorry.

We went to Mendocino County, which is, I guess, the "greenest" county in the state...meaning everyone and their granny grows weed.  It's so damned beautiful up there, if a bit inaccessible 'cept through some rather twisty, windy roads...

I took them all with my iPhone (the new one, the iPhone 4), and they came out decent.  I tried to resize them, but they are so pretty, didn't want to resize them into oblivion.

This is what I was walking along, one side of the road, and then the road itself.

My catchphrase for the week was: The cows don't care.  And they really don't.  Though they seemed to watch us a lot as we walked by...

...and here's the other side of THAT road:

That's the ocean beyond there in the distance.

And here's the kids and husband inside a tree--Stella saw this on my facebook and said we're Keeblers...  But yes, the redwoods are REALLY that huge.

And then the piece de resistance for me:  This is Glass Beach in Fort Bragg.  It was built on a former landfill, and all this sea glass is all over the beach.  You can see people digging for it in the sand.  It's quite lovely, actually, from all views.  I'm giving you one of the ocean and the rocks...

as well as my kiddo up against some driftwood, with the sea over this right (our left) shoulder:

Great pictures Jenne.

And yeah, I've found the iphone cameras to be surprisingly good. Though I don't own one, my GF does so I receive tons of images of our baby and whatnot.

Thanks, Net.  I was surprised  at how well a lot of these turned out.  Sucked the ones I took of them in the tree turned out so crappy, but I'm wondering if it was the light/fog atmosphere that affected the phone, though in truth it was probably the photographer, lol.

The blurring is almost always a sign of not enough light, which the camera is trying to compensate for by keeping the shutter open longer. So it's not really your fault, it's a mechanical limitation with these small cameras: the aperture can't open very wide so the slower shutter speed tries to make up for it.

You might consider making a little string "tripod" for those low light situations.

You'd need one of these (http://www.iphone-tripodholder.com/) in order to make a string tripod (http://www.instructables.com/id/String-Tripod/), which is quite easy and cheap to put together.

Thanks, Cram--you know how many photos I have of him sitting there, like that, while I took different views from every angle?   I think 5?

Thanks, Khara and Squid--it was soooo gorgeous up there.  Cold, but fuckin' gorgeous.

Okiedokie--these are some NEW vacation photos.  A few chosen ones, anyway.  Some are still on my iPhone, some are on my husband's phone or camera.  So I'll grab more of those later. I won't repeat the ones I put in SpagBook, or the Pix thread in AT:

To wit: (national monument pix, cavern pix, crazy-blurry pic of me and my kids in the caverns)

Thanks, Eve--you like them candy-red stripes?   I got so many strange looks from elderly women in VA over them.  I kept forgetting I had bright-pink stripes in my hair when I caught their strange looks.

Hey, Stella--thankees, those were the Shenandoah ones.  They had the "bacon" type formations as well as ooh-aaaah sparkly ones.  :D

The one looks like a mountain of cinnamon rolls with enough goddam frosting for once.

And the hair is awesome. Colorblock or what? Is it permanent?
I was thinking of getting a little weird hair stuff done but it'd be a waste if it just washed out before I got outta here.  :p

California has some of the most incredible, diverse, and breathtaking landscape anywhere. It makes me wish I'd taken more pictures, honestly, just to show how staggeringly beautiful it is. There are parts along Highway 395 that make you feel unworthy. In fact, Google image search it... it will give a semi-glimpse into the experience of driving it, but the truth is that it is thousands of times more breathtaking and epic in person.

BITCHES DON'T KNOW ABOUT ABOUT CALIFORNIA.

Here are a few off of Google:

And remember the Shoe Tree? That's on 395 too.

Went to post this earlier this a.m. and the board imploded or something:

Thanks, Ladies!

Stella--it's "permanent"--I've been reminded recently there's no recent decents of me--so I'll post a better pic of my hair soon so you can see how it was done.  Suffice it to say it does wash out rather often--blood red runs in the shower!  I have a few tricks I've learned so I can stay out of the salon where they redo it for an ASTRONOMICAL price and not twice a month or so--you just put the dye in your conditioner and use that instead of regular conditioner.  It works for about 6-8 weeks.  You should go for it, and if you're adventurous, just have a friend start it for you with the bleaching and then go for it with the color.  Halloween is the perfect time to "try it out."  I, paradoxically, started in APRIL...

Suu and Nigel--thank you thank you.  I love my boys.  They have sooo enjoyed their travels recently, so I include them in the pix for that factor alone.  And it makes me happy to see them in the pictures, too.  It's too bad none of the ones of us in the caverns turned out very well, but I blame the lameass camera--my husband'd left HIS very NICE Cannon in the car!  :x

That whole area of California's just...so very...you can't really describe it, and there's no ONE place of it that you can use to represent it.  So much to offer...it boggles.

If you travel around CA, you see we're more than just the sum of our assholes and idiots.

*theme from "Psycho"*
I know temporary is bad about that. Sometimes I get in a mood and throw on some burgundy and it does that for a week.

I've been meaning to go to Cat (http://www.catpresleykirkwood.com/#!gallery) for the longest...I like the second-to-last pic. Not the cut, but the red chunks.  :D My nape hair won't bleach, it's like Japanese hair or something, I can fry it to straw and it's still orange.  :x
But the top and front bleach ok. I like the conditioner idea. Do you mix it fresh each time or mix it all at once?

The red chunks are what I have!   And I just got it redone, so it should photograph well in good light.

I put the manic panic (or whatever you use) in a smaller bottle with color-protecting conditioner after shampoo.  And I use it whenever I condition.  I don't start doing this, however, until the salon streaks are WEAK.  And then I manic panic them, rinse out, put on a glaze (you can get OTC stuff cheap for this), and THEN I use the rest of the manic panic in conditioner form whenever I wash (about every 3-4 days...?).

Just use old towels to dry your hair with.  Oh, and get some goop around your hears, hairline and nape unless you wanna look like you've been dying your skin instead.

PICS!!!!!  :D

Manic Panic's the way to go, it's all herbal and stuff, no animal testing, etc. Can't get it in Seguin but it's fairly cheap on the website. :D

Yeah, I learned that the time I actually skinned my ears scrubbing Colorsilk out.  :horrormirth:
