What would I do to remove android from a tablet and install Fedora or Slackware?

Get a Surface? Not particularly a cheap option but they (should) run Windows 10 now which is the same OS whether it's on tablet or proper computer.

Really? Because it was my understanding that with the Windows 8 Surface tablets this was actually a lie and they actually ran something called "Windows RT"

What I am hearing, here, is "I want a tablet that is also fully-functional computer but I only want to spend $150".

Doesn't really matter anymore. I think I'm just gonna buy a Windows 8 tablet and install Classic Shell.

The sales guy at the store assures me that the one I've got my eye on uses the full non-RT version of the OS.

Update:

The new Windows 8.1 tablet works great. I've installed Classic Shell and successfully banished the Metro Screen as well as all easily visible references to mobile apps or the Windows Store. And I've installed Steam, GIMP, Audacity, Open Office, and all the other programs I'd always wanted to bring around with me on the go.
