I finished my paper that I got an extension on (not gonna lie, it was shit. Bad enough that even though the subject is interesting as hell I'd be embarrassed to repost it here) and contributed my impression of  students "presence" in class this term (fucking psych classes, I can't wait to NEVER TAKE ONE AGAIN).

Now, I am free as a bird for exactly one week. And then classes start again. But not so much.

I just used almost completely forgotten statistics knowledge to figure out why our workload is so hard to predict.
It is worse than i thought.
I had completely forgotten how standard deviations worked and what they actually mean.
At least now I know that planning is pointless since the STDEV is half as big as the average.
So there is a 68,2% chance that we need between half and 1,5x the average number of workers.

I would need to collect more detailed data to say more though. I can think of a few things that would give us a handle on things.
I shouldn't be doing this though, it is not in my job description. Then again, I don't have a current job description, i stopped doing that job in January.  :argh!:

I almost worked 60 hours last week, including weekend time. I feel like I have committed a great sin. (My capitalist pig-dog iPhone just tried to autocorrect "sin" to "win").

A great Slackening is immenant.

I'm just watching the HBO documentary, Paradise Lost, about the Memphis 3.  Man, that was a clusterfuck.  Misskelley's questioning was a complete mess, the police were clearly feeding him information and leading him to the "correct" answers...Echols feels "off", but that could be his mental illness coming through.  The "expert witness" who claimed it was a cult killing who faked his credentials, "Mr Bojangles", the complete lack of consistent timeline, no kill scene....the problems just keep on mounting.

Statistics. Great to understand, but may god grant us all the grad students so we never have to do them ourselves.

Yeah...the victims parents were especially depressing.  I can understand their desire for revenge, but...in their shoes, I wouldn't be shooting a gun at pumpkins and shooting them while  fantasising about killing the suspects (as they were at the time) and accepting blindly the police "narrative" (to be generous to the police) without questioning if they were the right people.

I have arrived at the point where I have to accept that my oldest kid has serious mental health issues that are not going to go away. I suspect schizotypal personality disorder, but I took a physiology track, not a clinical track, so I have zero diagnostic skills.

I seriously should have taken psychopathology instead of cognitive neuroscience.

I'm not claiming to have any experience or special knowledge in the field of psychology or psychopathology. But, I did have a very strong interest in the subject, and spent a large deal of time studying it informally.

That being said, may I inquire about what led you to this suspicion? For example, general mannerisms and mentalities that appear consistent with the disorder, as well as any odd social tendencies? I'd completely understand if you think it too personal a question, and would like to keep the information to yourself. I was just curious  :)

I know an individual or two that has been diagnosed with Schizoid and similar disorders, so this post interested me.

Nigel, ignore the poo here... It said schizoid in reference to schizotypal and equated a personal interest with professional training in neurosciences... You can't make it look any dumber than its done to itself.

That's blatantly incorrect. I was referencing the relevance to the entire spectrum of disorders by bringing up my connection to another disorder on the spectrum, and specifying that I was NOT equating personal interest with professional training.

:troll:??

Diagnosing and treating your own kids is impossible whatever degree you get. Sorry to hear all that's going on, it's hard for the person with the problem and hard for everyone dealing with it. Hope treatment is covered and productive.

And if you need help hiding the bodies of the peanut gallery over here, let me know...

It's 19. Cut the kid some fucking slack.

The psychology of human grief is often heartbreakingly simple. Having a target for blame is so much easier than just not having anywhere to put all that intensity of pain.

You are using the word "spectrum" incorrectly, FYI.
