I think I can go with that, with a few exceptions, e.g. Carroll/Burroughs/Joyce et al, who use semantics and language in extremely non-traditional ways for a specific intended effect.

In what sense though?  I would have to disagree with Joyce - the level of multiple meanings and associations interwoven into his works (also the fact he wrote books) suggests exactly the sort of ambiguity I would consider belonging to the holistic side of things.  Burroughs too, since when while you consider something like Naked Lunch as non-linear, there are segments which alone do make sense, just not necessarily as part of a larger whole.

Of course, I came up with this classification off the top of my head, so take from that what you will.

If naked lunch didn;t make sense to you as a whole I'd suggest reading it again.  It made sense to me the third time.  It might be me doing a starbuck's pebbles, but it made a hell of a lot of sense.

How about the ocean deeps?  I think it's safe to say there is no humanity down there, cept for the occassional National Geographic submarine.  There's a certain reality, or "bits of stuff" that have, I assume, been existing without our presence.  Perhaps if we weren't around it would be different, in fact I'm sure it would be somehow.  But it would still "be" in some fashion wouldn't it?

Logic and almost every other rule you could apply, dictates that it does but I'd bet even science would be reluctant to call this an irrefutable fact because the bottom line is - we can't prove it.

It's an extension of BIP the way I see it, that and a bit of matrix flung in, that reality is actually projected by us and only exists in a bubble, around the observer. Yes, I agree, this is a patently ridiculous hypothesis but it is one, nonetheless that we can't completely rule out.

If you want to fuck your head in with metaphysics then, take it from someone who has, this kind of paradigm is exactly the kind of thing that will do it for you.

So you're saying that it's possible the ocean floor may only exist when we are actually there?
So, by this logic, it's possible to jump from a mile high cliff and walk away without a scratch.

I used to date a girl who claims to have done this.  Well, actually she got a scratch, but she didn't go splat.

So far, it's like "The Invisibles"- only awesomer!

Will forward lynx on myspace!

I'd say not quite as awesome, but then, the invisibles is in color and has hawt chicks.  That plant chick is kinda hawt, but, y'know, she's black and white and kinda small.  I am definitely enjoying it though.

he is too.  I killed him when he tried to cover one of my songs.  Just like Reznor did to Cash.  Except Cash finished the song.  Elvis never finished his cover.

"Electronica"?

:tgrr:

*chuckle* well, it's hard to make rock and roll when the only instrument available is a computer.

See?  This is EXACTLY why Elvis and Johnny Cash and Roy Orbison died.  To avoid seeing this future.

No insult intended, of course.  I just keep hoping for another Ian Anderson or Meatloaf.

Johnny Cash actually did a cover of Hurt, which, being Industrial, falls under Electronica.  And insult away if you feel like it.  The comment I have enjoyed the most on my music was the person who said she could actually feel it driving her insane who begged me to let her stop listening to it.
