Me First & the Gimmie Gimmies.

It's Fat Mike from NOFX and friends.  They do skaterpunk versions of standards.

Hmmm. No link, but it's on a Smiths tribute album called "The World Still Won't Listen."

I heard that album wasn't so bad.  I'll have to check it out.

I adore The Smiths.  I'm with HSD, I can hear "How Long Is Now" anytime, any day.

I have to say, I'm lucky that a culturally, well, not poor but not fantastic city like SD has some decent rock stations.

You just made Morrisey cry.

Not that it was very hard to do, but still...

First, we treat the Cure song as if Me First and the Gimme Gimmies were playing it - Fast, loud & stoopid.

Second, some of these songs are, like, 30 years old.  We give it the modern touch.

Third, we were thinking of doing a medly of "Radar Love" and "Ballroom Blitz".

Fourth, Ballroom Blitz was also sampled by the Beastie Boys in "Hey Ladies" - "She thinks she's the passionate one!"

Fifth, We're gonna do "Not In Love" like a Sonic Youth song.

Technically, it's your dog, but whatever.

Stay tuned.

can i have spooky, mystical sounding backdrops?

I just figured out the perfect backdrop.  It starts out with ambient Brian Eno, and ends up with Einsturzende Neubauten.

Yup.

QuoteThe Machine,Ñ¢ loves to polarize situations in their favour (us/them...good/evil etc) but
immediately reverts to obfuscation & smoke screens the moment someone notices.
People are a fundamental component of the Machine,Ñ¢. The degree to which they are
a component is variable, but essentially being alive and part of a society inducts one
into Machineship,Ñ¢.
Governments are collections of people, regardless of whatever means they were
assembled (democracy, military dictatorship etc etc). so as long as people are
involved, then there must be a potential for Machinist,Ñ¢ features to arise.
When have governments NOT done the things that you isolated as being too specific?
I think an underlying problem is that within the Machine,Ñ¢ are the desires for power
& control for their own sake and the attending problem of holding on to that power
for as long as possible. The points I listed maybe specific manifestations but their
motivation are, I believe, very much part of the greater apparatus that we think is 'the
Machine,Ñ¢'.

Well, I recorded RWHN's rant. I sent it to Syn, but we all know how lazy the guy is, so you can hear it here, too: http://earfatigue.multiply.com/music/item/123

Cheers.

Cheers indeed.  And applause, and standing O.  Fucking RAH.

...also, are you sure you weren't a preacher in a former life???

Thanks.  Actually, that isn't my preacher voice, though.  I need the appropriate material.

Which is why I'm a sad panda, because TGRR won't let me record his stuff.

It's up at POEE, except Syn didn't give you, LMNO, credit for actually performing the rant.

You wrote it.  I'm just an asshole with a microphone.
