Title: It's all going horribly wrong.
Post by: Pope Pixie Pickle on February 15, 2012, 12:45:08 PM
I am in meltdown. I gave my landlord notice to quit and now my guarantor for the rent on the new place has JUST PULLED OUT. The move was supposed to be in 10 days, My only other option was to get my dad or someone to stump up £2000. My Dad can't do it, cos he loaned Payne the money for his motorbike. My savings are boned and I'm supposed to be doing research for a job interview tomorrow, my first in over 3 years. I really hope my landlord will take back my notice to quit. I am in tears and cannot focus on the wine, beer and whiskey research I NEED to do to nail this interview.

My dad and I will be meeting tonight to see if there is another option. it's all kinds of fucked up.

Damn.  Why did the garantor pull out?  Doesn't that kind of thing require a contract?

I'm sorry, Pix.  Wish I could help.  I'd offer my couch if you weren't so far away.

We were about to go sign the paperwork and then she pulled out. Apparently her mum thought it was a bad plan.

The only consolation is that I haven't paid any fees or anything yet, and may be able to rescind my notice to quit, thus restoring my status quo. Which may fuck Payne and his housemates over. This would especially apply to Matt, who may have to quit his horticulture course if he has to move back to his parents.

Ok, UPDATE! Me, Payne and the guys I was going to move in with are looking at a new place tomorrow, before the interview. I've txted my landlord letting him know the score.

I now know more about scotch single malts than i did. (I'm a fan of the Speyside, Island and Highland types, myself, and am not keen on the 1 Islay I've tried) I know what beers to pair with food to a certain extent, and I know that European wines are by region, New World by grape. Wine is my weakest point, but I know that beer and food pairing-wise, a dark beer is akin to a red wine for food, and paler akin to white, and with both wine and beers, if in doubt go for region of the food and match to something from that region. . IPA's and lagers are good for spicy food, such as curries and chilli, and often superior choices to wines in this respect, porters and stouts are good for red meat and chocolate desserts, Stout goes excellently with oysters.

Add to this my customer services and general kitchen experience in cleaning and basic prepration, willingness to be flexible and I feel that what I don't know I can improve with experience and research. I've mostly just typed this out from memory so it will stick for the interview. My suit is hung up, I'm about to have a shower after I have a ciggy and a cup of chai. I think I am as prepared as I am going to be.

Heh, My landlord just called and has offered me a viewing of a place that is £225 a month each, for 3 people. The other brilliantly located place was snapped up faster than a very fast thing. I am all made up in my suit and blue suede heels and ready to kick ass and take names.

Speysides are pretty nice...but how can you not like Islays?  Laphroaig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg might be a little...peaty, I'll concede, but Bunnahabhain, Bowmore and Bruichladdich are much less so.

I said I disliked the one Islay I tried, which was Laphroaig. The southern Islays are apparently better, but I do not know them.

I tried laphroaig for the first time last week. I was surprised by the taste of it and peaty kinda nails it on the head. I havent decided whether i like it or dislike it (i tend to go for either irish imports or cheap nasty shit from kentucky depending on what my goal is) but i would try it again.

Ok, so I walk into the place where they are holding the Open Day for the Co-Op. Apart from the interviewers, I am the sharpest dressed motherfucker in the room. I spend a good while filling out all their stuff and paperwork. I mention that I would have been along earlier in the day, I just had to go look at a house, and the guy said he was house-hunting too. I recommended he go for Gumtree and avoid letting agents if at all possible, cos they gouge you for money. The interview went very well. I wasn't flustered like yesterday, I kicked ass and took names in this one, and I reckon I have a good chance of getting some work. When he asked me about my weaknesses, I said I was maybe too chatty, but he said that's not a weakness cos it builds customer rapport. Now to go sort out a new place to live! It is a good day to be Pixie.

The closer place to where I am now fell through, and I have to take a place sight unseen, from my current landlord. That will be fixed and in place on Monday, and i have ANOTHER person call me in for interview. :D My deposit from this place has been transferred over to the new place, so I have less of an outlay!

The day before I put my deposit down on the new place there was a shooting literally 2 minutes walk from the flat! I just got back from an interview with a brand new place opened that serves Mexican food (burritos, tacos, quesadillia ect) kinda in a Subway set up. it was a nice informal interview and I got there all suited and booted before the interviewer was there, I was early by 20 minutes. The interviewer had forgot my CV. It was a pleasant chat type of interview, focusing on experience and she even had a little bit of a moan about the glitches of opening a new business, which got me to show off some food hygiene knowledge.  I even got a free cup of tea. She has a dozen or so other people to interview this week and will let me know next week if I have got the job or not. I think it went well, and they are used to employing students, so they don't mind me having Tuesday nights off for D&D, or having to fit in with bus timetables.

I am starting to love my grey trouser suit and bright blue suede heels. They look the business.

The first time I lived away from my mum, a guy was murdered across the road... 2 days before I moved in.

No-one was killed, fortunately. I just took a look at the outside of the new place and it looks like it's a little cramped, and is on the upper floor which means it's going to be a bit of a bitch to get furniture into.

It's short notice and a stupid cheap rent. I mean SERIOUSLY cheap. Which is nice. It might be the only nice thing about the place, tbh.

Yea, It's a vague appropriation of Tex Mex snacks and the like. Not as nice as the Southwestern US Real Deal made by mom and pop places, or made by Real Mexicans, just pale assed white English students, and because of the rarity factor in this city, nay, in this country, it's expensive, and smaller portions than you would get in Arizona. for instance three tacos is like £3.65. whereas in 2003 I used to snag the same in AZ for $2 max.

But a job is a job.

I would totally eat the hell out of a haggis burrito. Maybe if we do another DoD I'll make some.

Also, Nigel, haggis is Tasty As Fuck.
