The haircut looks good, but I think they should have left the arms.

The funny thing is, the ammo-less rifles and pistols are still more dangerous as bludgeoning devices than a nail clipper is as any sort of weapon.

Since we're trying to minimize over-representation of single authors, which Hesse novel do people find less impressive/relevant? I've read both, and I was personally more impressed with Siddhartha.

Or Kill Me / The thrill is gone
December 06, 2010, 05:18:37 AM
The passion seems to have gone out of my relationship.
That is, my relationship with the government and the world. I find myself incapable of the depth and breadth of hatred I used to have. It's been too long since I felt a fire in my chest like I wanted to vomit magma at somebody. The recent issues with suppression of Wikileaks and the TSA have made me realize how cold and hollow my hatred of authoritarians has become. I used to want to eat their hearts and dance in the ashes of their empires- now I can't really stir much more concern than hoping that they at least leave me alone. Abuse of power has become pretty routine, and it normally doesn't affect me directly, but I even seem to have trouble stirring a fire in my belly against personal enemies. PD, this is a sincere request- teach me how hate with fire again.

So?  Really, what the hell does it add to the game if the classes are more balanced.  Either you have a game like Roger's, and people will take the best classes, or you have a game where combat isn't central, and it doesn't matter.
In games which feature a lot of combat, but in which the players still want to play their preferred character archetypes, it detracts from the fun for one party member to be the only one that does anything every encounter. Hence, you rebalanced to make it so that the classes are equally useful so that people can play their favorite class without being rendered irrelevant. It's not that important if you approach from a purely gameply scenario (everyone will choose the best class for enjoyment of encounters) or a purely roleplay scenario (everyone will choose classes that reflect the character they wish to portray) but these are role-play games, and there is a middle ground, and too much class imbalance can ruin the fun there.

This is the third thread about this topic ... Did you know they named a planet Eris? ;-)

Wait, hang on a second there, Trip. It's a DWARF planet. It, like Pluto, does not have sufficient mass to clear its orbit of debris. Also, it's populated by dwarves. Very cold, blind dwarves.

that was brilliant.

I live in hell.

My group can't just BEAT the monsters, they have to do horrible shit to them.

One recurring villain in my campaign was last known as "The one-armed, one-legged, one-eyed vampire named Raoul."  Don't ask.

The fuckers pushed his wheelchair down the stairs to level 5.  :tgrr:

I have to.

WHY?!?!?!

He only had one leg.

Or do you mean why did they shove him down the stairs?

that and why did you make a one legged vampire.
I think he just made a vampire, and the players made him one-legged, if I'm reading Roger correctly.

Tel, I don't run Exalted, I play (I normally run games for my group, but I run horror games most of the time, and play action games run by another of our group). But yeah, we use 2nd Edition- I favor Lunars, so 1st ed is basically a non-option (their 2nd Edition book is so much better, though it still suffers some drawback to coming out fairly early in the line- the mechanics of Infernals and Alchemicals are more refined than the early books, as the writers had learned from some past mistakes). As for the Social aspects of the game, they're alright- I've only made one primarily Social character and didn't get to play him for long, so I haven't built up much experience with them. I do wish that Bureaucracy had some better mechanics, and Mandate of Heaven is a kind of unsatisfactory minigame for Exalted statecraft, which could be much more fun.

I don't understand how you people can hold such absurd beliefs, when "aliens" are obviously anthropologists anal insertion fetishists from the future.

I live in #10, though the campus at my school isn't that dangerous, and I've walked home drunk or high from a few blocks outside the campus a few times with no incident. I'd probably be more worried if I'd been coming from a few blocks away in another direction, though.

The system struck me as being "here's a list of incredibly cool things the Exalted can do.  Oh but not you, you'll be a noob for the next ten years of playtime."
My playgroup heavily exceeds the recommended amount of experience rewards, and either shorten or ignore training times in a lot of cases.

What were your issues with it? The system is far from perfect, but I enjoy the basis of the game. I'm considered attempting a total conversion to a generic RP system, but it would take more effort to do well than I really want to put forth, so we use houserules to patch up places where the gameplay is weak.
