As a scout, back in the day, I was expected to be able to survive in the woods.  Which I can, with a little preparation.  I wouldn't want to try it, however, for more than a few weeks at a time and especially without a return ticket.  The forest lacks many things, not least:

Much in the way of human interaction
Books
Wifi
Places to charge my laptop
Season 5 of Lost
Scotch
Mints
All night pizza delivery

It does contain plenty of wood, weeds, rain and annoying little bugs.  If that's your thing, of course.

The forest also lacks soft toilet paper.

I have no problem with a third gender pronoun per se....I just have problems with people who use ones they made up, or use them when the person in question is identifiably male or female and identifies themselves as such.  I'd like a standard term and convetion for its use, basically.

Same here. I seem to recall being ambivalent towards the use of e as a gender-neutral pronoun, until I read something where a known male subject was repeatedly referred to as 'e'. That bugged the shit out of me.

I'm too lazy to build my food when I eat it so it's rare I'll order something "on the side".  Plus I like salad dressing and IMO building and tossing my own food is not worth the 10 calories I'll be saving because I eat a tiny bit less dressing.

So you'll just let the establishment put however much dressing they damn well please on your salad, and you'll eat it without the slightest bit of protest?

Why do you hate freedom?!

And here I thought my days (okay, months) at Uncyclopedia were wasted. Well, they were wasted, but at least I'm familiar with wikicode.

I seem to remember Uncyclopedia having a small CYOA, except pretty much every choice ended with you being eaten by a grue.

Well, last I saw they had several CYOAs, some quite large, and only half of the endings involved being eaten by a Grue. Not that I ever really participated in those.

I do the polite/annoying version of Cain's technique. I am extremely dodgy about what religion I "belong to", and I've been practicing KYFMS since I first found Discordianism.

So far I have only introduced only one person to the PD and this website, because I trust her mightily, and I had great fun in Hawaii by being able to talk at length about religions with another one of my best friends, only to reveal later that I was not actually a member of whichever religion I happened to be talking about. Unfortunately she caught on and I wasn't able to pass myself off as a Buddhist, but it was highly amusing while it lasted.

The Religious Case Against Belief by James P. Carse

Very interesting; so far I'm pretty captivated by his arguments about the nature of belief systems. I highly recommend it.

...And then there's me, who wonders why we can't all just keep a collection of various maps in our mental briefcase.

One map will only get you so far and only tell you so much. It doesn't have to be an earth-shaking event each time an individual starts using a new one.

I love this thread.

At no point in our "agenda" (to use the term so loosely that it nearly loses all meaning) is it necessary for members of our "movement" (again, to use a term loosely) to have faith. Determination helps a lot for individual projects, but no one has to actually believe that nonsense is salvation.

Edited to add: Also, a generally high ratio of hotness. And we don't argue over what to wear.
