Title: do you know your evil?
Post by: Rhys Rhaven on September 22, 2008, 04:50:30 AM
i found out about discordians through a friend I met over the summer. he seemed kinda off balance, and his girlfriend reminded me of a charlie manson follower. they were really nice though, so i thought id check it out. reading through your posts, its so obvious that what you call "eris" is just another name for satan. everything you guy support is just evil and wicked. do you know you are actively following satan or are you all misled? (as he is the great Deciever).

someone said in the tread about "definitions" that discordianism is trying to destroy america and everything it stands for. how can you say things like this and still think you are good? do you not think you are good? i just wanted to tell you all that God loves each and every one of you, and that no matter what you think now there is always a place for you in his Good Book.

Yes, I am a Christian.

Rhys

Next week, I might be tempted. This week, however, I am to try and rise above petty dramas.

Welcome to the board.

How naive you still are. Satan is a great deceiver that is why he invented Christianity in so they would not question him. How could you compared them Eris to satan... give me evidence. America is the most corrupt of all the country's and Christians are trying to destroy the basic principles of America so that it will truly become a lost cause. They are trying to destroy freedom of religion. Don't give me that bull about God loves everyone... You know nothing of your own religion. Only those who accept Christ into there hearts are allowed in heaven so he does not love everyone.

How do you know that the devil hasn't blinded you into thinking you're doing good?

Why doesn't God love the children that die painful, painful deaths every day?

Why did God kill his favorite son to show that he loves us? That's fucked up.

I turn away from Christ because he raped my mouth. If I had known the wafer I ate was going to turn into his flesh (which includes his penis, testicles and anus) I never would have done it. It was traumatizing.

I believe in him, don't get me wrong. I just believe he's an asshole and not the kind of asshole I want in my mouth.

Actually, Rhys is right:

ERIS = SIRE = RISE = IRES = I, RES.

"RES," being an archaic spelling of "Rex" ("King"), links to "SIRE", who appears to rise in ire.  A king of hate?  Why the only king of Ire must be our dark lord, YHWH -- um, Lucifer.

Hello Rhys,

First, I wouldn't trust anything that a self proclaimed Discordian says or does. They're probably apostate and working against the True Church of Eris.

Secondly, you're almost right; Satan is involved, but not as directly as you might think, as a POEE of the Discordian Society, the truth was revealed to me in dreams and under inspiration I wrote:
Quote
One day Satan, Jesus and Eris were having a conversation. Satan had just come from the Garden of Eden; he was gloating and boasting. "Yes, sir, I just caught the world full of people down there. Set me a trap, used bait I knew they couldn't resist. Got 'em all!"

"What are you going to do with them?" Jesus asked.

"Why would you want that bunch of losers anyway?", Eris chimed in sweetly. "They appear as nothing more than a bunch of mindless sheep, constantly whining and praying for 'God' to fix their problems." She made a face, as though she'd just bitten into a rotten apple, "They're pathetic."

Satan replied, "Oh, I'm gonna have fun! I'm gonna teach them how to marry and divorce each other, how to hate and abuse each other, how to drink and smoke and curse. I'm gonna teach them how to invent guns and bombs and kill each other. I'm really gonna have fun!"

"And what will you do when you get done with them?" Jesus asked.

"Can I watch?" Eris asked.

"Oh, I'll kill 'em," Satan glared proudly.

"Wait a minute," Eris said, "You don't want to kill 'em. Then they won't be amusing anymore. I've got a much better idea."

Satan looked interested, but mostly because he had a secret crush on Eris.

"How much do you want for them?" Jesus asked.

"What are you on about?" Eris asked somewhat perturbed at being interrupted, she looked at him for a moment and then groaned, "Will you stop with all of this Son of God crap?"

Jesus was somewhat taken aback, "Er, well I mean aren't I supposed to do something to save all these people?"

"Save them from what? Themselves? Their natural tenancy toward chaos? Their constant inability to control even their basest emotion? I mean what do you expect to save?" Eris looked at Jesus pointedly and sighed.

"But, that's what my Father wants. I am his only-begotten son, and I should give my life to save the human race from Satan here.... right?" Jesus said, questions beginning to show in his eyes.

"Jesus Christ! What are you thinking? Your Father is supposed to be some Almighty God, if he really wanted to save people, don't you think he could just kill Satan here?" She looked briefly at Satan, who was suddenly uncomfortable,"No offense, Smoky" Eris concluded.

"Err, well there's the whole thing about proving yourself or something. At any rate, HE wishes it to be this way." Jesus was obviously concerned with the direction the conversation was taking.

"How about this," Eris said smiling, "We will con a bunch of gullible humans into writing down that you two did everything you're supposed to do. People are sheep, they;ll believe that it happened and we can go do something else. Besides, if people think that God's Son came down to earth, you realize how much chaos that will cause? Everyone will try to follow you their own way, and powerful people will force weaker people to follow you their way. Then groups of powerful people will fight about your beliefs... it'll be great!!!"

Jesus looked disturbed "But, won't there be suffering?"

"Of course," Eris smiled sweetly "But, they're humans there will be suffering no matter what you do. If you go down there and tell people to love each other, they will, and they will give everyone else the choice of loving each other according to the rules, or they will love them with a sword. It doesn't matter what you say."

Satan looked depressed "Damn it all to hell! I spent all this time setting a trap and I caught people who were already fucked? That's not fair!"

Eris smiled at the poor horned troublemaker, "Tell ya what, why don't the three of us head back to my place, I've got some great Kine Bud that is just ready to smoke and I made a bong out of the Horsehead Nebula last week. Wanna try it out?"

Jesus and Satan looked at each other, looked at the Earth and looked at Eris (who at this point made sure hat the shoulder of her dress slipped down to expose a little flesh)."I'm sure there is more entertaining stuff to do back at my place," she said sweetly and whisked them off to Limbo.

Jesus and Satan got so stoned that they forgot about the silly humans and their pathetic sheep-like ways. Eris, on the other hand decided to implement her little chaos causing schemes and what we see today is the fault of "She What Done It All".

So, now you know the truth, and the truth will set you free... or, barring that, you can just set yourself free.

No, I say we hear him out.

This could, after all, be a somewhat misguided attempt to check the waters before he dives in.

He does seem to have a somewhat atheist streak, and there are elements of religion in Discordianism, so he may be checking to see we aren't all raving fundies.

If that's the case, good show.

If he's a troll, well, he'll get all the attention he could possibly wish for from this crew.

I reiterate, welcome to the boards, Rhys.

I am not evil and I stray from organized religion because I see it as a separation of mankind that can only cause war and do no real good.

I am not a troll normally. I just got really bored recently... I am actually not an atheist at all. Yes I was testing the waters It seems here you treat trolls differently then the COG and for that I apologize. I have spent so long on the CoG I have forgotten. again my apologizes.

That was more about Rhys than you, GM. But it holds anyway.

We (are supposed to) treat trolls differently here, because, as has been stated many times before, many of us ARE trolls.

Trolling isn't really the problem, we can troll or be trolled anywhere. What we do like is a bit of honest debate and juicy content.

I found out about discordians through a friend I met over the summer. He seemed kinda off balance, and his girlfriend reminded me of a Charlie Manson follower. They were really nice though, so I thought I'd check it out. Reading through your posts, it's so obvious that what you call "Eris" is just another name for Satan. Everything you guys support is just evil and wicked. do you know you are actively following Satan or are you all misled? (as he is the great deceiver).

Someone said in the thread about "definitions" that discordianism is trying to destroy America and everything it stands for. How can you say things like this and still think you are good? Do you not think you are good? I just wanted to tell you all that God loves each and every one of you, and that no matter what you think now, there is always a place for you in his Good Book.

Yes, I am a Christian.

GodBless,
Rhys

It was bugging me, so I fixed some grammar errors and some typos in your post.  No thanks needed;  just my kindness to you.

And another question.  Why can you call me evil in the same post that you say that someone that reminds you of a Charlie Manson follower is really nice?  Weirdly enough, that makes me wonder if you are in fact the one that is evil.

hooray hooray hooray. If all of you must know I was just enjoying a little trolling at the expense of the trolls. How they abound here!

I was told these great stories of how amazing discordians are at infiltrating other forums, becoming recognized and then as grand saboteurs raising havoc and chaos. How he must have been exaggerating I thought to myself! And lo and behold I join the forums and start reading, and its true! Entire threads on targets to attack! Evilness to spread and madness to sow!

So I join, and I simply parrot the datagrams given to me for so very long. I expect a very few replies, curiously awaiting if someone shall search for my identity. I see the comments of TROLL and those gladly welcoming me to the forum (thank you very much.) But 4 pages and growing. My oh my. I must of course tip my hat and my pipe to Payne. though you should notice I AM the rabid atheist you mentioned.

I hail not from the Cult of Google, but from Center for Inquiry. Science, Skepticism, and freedom to question EVERYTHING. That is my ball Felix, and I have not dropped it in recent memory nor have I gone home. I love bouncing around playing with my ball. Really though, I must tell you all the reason I join these forums. The REAL reason I'm here is that the evil bastard Ratatosk slept with my girlfriend. Most likely through another "Revelation of Eris" he stripped the sanctity of my beloved virgin. What a wicked fiend he is, and he shall of course pay dearly for his devilish ways.

P.S. The Manson follower over the summer was very cute, a lovely and wicked woman. ;)

 we have exceptional trolldar here. There were a few giveaways, including the typo in the subject line and the good / evil language. Nice try! But if you dig this sort of thing, yes, there are many opportunities for havoc at the expense of others.

More commonly we troll pagans (rather than Christians), possibly because we're more often lumped in with them than with satanists. Recently I guess we've been trolling other irreligions.

No hard feelings from me. But "trolling the trolls" is usually poor form, 'cause we got better things to talk about here than trolling each other.

Ratatosk is an evil evil man, and must be destroyed.

What he does is an offence to GOD himself. I'm guessing the Mansonite was Sjantzee? (I never remember how to spell her name)

If you have some ideas to contribute, then please do. You may get a chance at a second first impression, which is all too rare here abouts.

As I predicted earlier.

I understand, from speaking to Ratatosk, that you don't actually know much about Discordianism, except for some of the shit he fed you when you met?

I'd recomend looking up the Principia Discordia, and then the Black Iron Prison, which is "our" modern update on the old PD.

We have boards for ranting, cooking and random shit too.

There is a pool on the roof.

Show us what you got man, I'm hoping that my leniency is going to be repaid you see.

If nothing else, this thread has exposed (again) a penchant for immediately shitting on people without even looking for mitigating circumstance. I know why that happens, better to give obvious trolls a taste of what they can expect as soon as they start. Still, in this case, I believe there is a glimmer of hope for you.

"Faith that you can bring something to the table, as long as you are given the space and opportunity to do so", perhaps.

Ok, time for formal welcomes.

Hi Rhys, welcome to the boards.  Up here on top is the Pool*, and is where we post musings about Discordia 1.0 (i.e. the 1960's, POEE, original Principia Discordia-style Discordia).
Under that is the "Random bullshit" area.  It's mostly fluff and in-jokes; not surprisingly, it's one of the more popular areas.
Down further you get our pranks, jakes, and mindfuckery projects.
Rants and mind-spews follow below that, and then we get to the place where we try to think beyond ourselves, develop new metaphors for existence, and other overblown bullshit.
We wrap up with References and Resources, and then finally some egotistical attention whore stuff for the delusionally artistic.

So, there you go.  If you're just here to fling feces, stick to the top two forums.  If you feel like throwing down and getting into an intellectual street fight, check out the "Think For Yourself, Schmuck" and "Or Kill Me" subfora.

There you go.  Don't be a retard.

*You should really check it out.  It's on the roof.

i found out about discordians through a friend I met over the summer. he seemed kinda off balance, and his girlfriend reminded me of a charlie manson follower. they were really nice though, so i thought id check it out. reading through your posts, its so obvious that what you call "eris" is just another name for satan. everything you guy support is just evil and wicked. do you know you are actively following satan or are you all misled? (as he is the great Deciever).

someone said in the tread about "definitions" that discordianism is trying to destroy america and everything it stands for. how can you say things like this and still think you are good? do you not think you are good? i just wanted to tell you all that God loves each and every one of you, and that no matter what you think now there is always a place for you in his Good Book.

Yes, I am a Christian.

GodBless,
Rhys

I fully acknowledge that Discordianism is Satanism.  And yes, I willfully do evil.  I poke little children in the eye all the time, just so they can't enjoy 3D movies.  For kicks.

To quote St.Vermin:  "I enjoy collecting protection money, putting whores to work, loan-sharking. I enjoy planting bombs in people's cars. These are a few of my favorite things."

And, hey, if its good enough for the Candy Man, it's good enough for me...

I'm not... I was just feeling especially delicate and precious yesterday.

The jabs do happen a lot, and I'm not immune to it, I put some thought into it yesterday and decided that I have done much the same to a few people on here.  I'm not proud of that, and will stop it here.  i sent out an apology PM to a poster I had given a hard time to last night, and I hope he can see that I meant it.  As has been said before, there are much more deserving people for our scorn than ourselves.

On a similar line of thought, I don't want people to think I am overly thin skinned either.  I can usually take it from the best of them, I guess yesterday just wasn't a good day for me.

I apologize to everyone for flying off the handle.  Again.

I think everyone needs to take a deep breath, have a beer* and realize what's going on here:

Namely, the general tone of this board tends towards snark, sarcasm, and one-liners.  Especially in Apple Talk.

Noobs are trying to get into the flow of things, and are doing their best to "fit in".  The problem is, me poking fun at Hoopla is treated differently than Yabbo poking fun at Hoopla.

Yeah, it's probably a senority thing.  We know each other better, so we can get away with more; we're all monkeys, deal with it.

That much said, it might be a good idea to treat said comments as what they actually are: pixels on a monitor, written by an anonymous sockfucker pretending to be cool.

Oh, and Hoopla: Go eat a bowl of dick.  Srsly.

both you and Daruko were in IRC last night.

Daruko was like "You guys miss me, admit it." and no one did.

Title: Re: do you know your evil?
Post by: Rhys Rhaven on October 01, 2008, 09:10:28 PM
Skepticism vs Pseudo skepticism. I would like to think a true skeptic. Show me proof of bigfoot/faith healings/UFOs that is greater than human fallibility, and I'll believe them. I never will say certain things don't exist, just that we lack most evidence for them. Russell's Teapot.  Which is why I am rarely sure of exactly what I am saying. I will say I am very scientific with things, trying to look for evidence, reproducibility, predictions, etc. Empiricism. I had a seemingly neverending argument about science and skepticism and maybe logic with Ratatosk and Eris incarnate for a week.

I've yet to decide a lot. Science just seems a damn good way of thinking about the world.

Noobs are trying to get into the flow of things, and are doing their best to "fit in".  The problem is, me poking fun at Hoopla is treated differently than Yabbo poking fun at Hoopla.

This is what is wrong with PD.com and pretty much every other forum after a few years. Older members always seem to think that people should give a shit about the size of their e-penis.

Cainad has been around long enough. He shouldn't have to toe the line or pander to older members.

Also, if someone was really upset enough to flounce permanently, then they wouldn't bother telling everyone first. It's like an emo threatening to kill himself. If you're going to do it, then stop whining and just pull the trigger already.

I'm just in a really shitty mood right now, and the last thing I wanted to see after a week away from here is a group of "established" members in a circle-jerk. Cainad didn't do anything wrong. Fuck anyone who thinks he did.

Who are you people to judge who is better than who on this board? I'm going to insult people when I feel like it, regardless of how many posts they have.

I can only hope that one day, all forums are anonymous. It's the only way to avoid this stuff.
Title: Re: do you know your evil?
Post by: hooplala on October 01, 2008, 10:13:53 PM
It's got nothing to do with "better", its common courtesy.  You wouldn't make a dig at someone you didn't know IRL, so why do it here?  Or if you did you'd probably get a punch in the mouth, and you would deserve it.

I've spoken to LMNO via PM, and email, and we didn't poke each other when we didn't know each other.  That's how relationships tend to work.

Cainad certainly doesn't need to pander to anyone, but I've never really spoken to him, so it's somewhat rude (at least in my mind) to act as if we're old buddies and poking fun at each other.

Believe it or not, there ARE relationships on the internet.  Many different relationships.

Title: Re: do you know your evil?

EDIT: this is a response to Malachites last post.

It's a "community" thing and a "respect" thing.

I know that's not really your bag, or at least assume so. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Throwing little insults and digs in are ok when you know where the other person is coming from, and if you are at least able to interact with them on some other level.

Cainad in the strictest sense didn't do anything wrong, not according to the forum guidelines, or for the general community here.

For a few people within this community, it's perceived that he has been a passive aggressive little bastard who  doesn't seem to interact with those few on any other level.

That's where the drama has come from. And I don't believe that there is, or will be, any kind of attempt to "enforce" a "no insults/digs/ego deflations" policy on everyone else.

You seem to have left off my next sentence in that quote.  "We're monkeys;  Deal with it."

It's true.  It's hard to understand how someone 'means' a post unless there is some sort of context.  Cainad had made what I perceived to be a few thinly disguised insults in the past, which I pretty much ignored, but I guess that fairly innocent post yesterday tipped me off the deep end.

Well damn, I didn't realize I'd acquired a reputation.

I'm going to re-examine the way I interact with people on this board, and hopefully prove myself to be more than a passive aggressive little bastard.

That's the same rationale Tent used for stalking Roger.

The internet is not real life. PD.com is full of trolls. You know this already.

Quote from: Hoopla on October 01, 2008, 10:13:53 PM
Cainad certainly doesn't need to pander to anyone, but I've never really spoken to him, so it's somewhat rude (at least in my mind) to act as if we're old buddies and poking fun at each other.

It has nothing to do with being "old buddies". The guy was being sarcastic. I've never really seen anyone here unable to take a joke before.

You're kind of right, to be honest. I like the people here, but I'll admit that I am mostly a troll. But I try to restrain myself while I'm here because I do find the place genuinely interesting. But this really pissed me off and things were looking really one-sided against Cainad, even though he didn't do anything wrong.

It was hardly even an insult. Hoopla was just being a little bit too much of a delicate flower for my liking. Cainad told a joke, Hoopla started crying, and his big brothers beat up Cainad. That's what I'm seeing in this thread.

As I've stated several times already, it was mostly the OTHER things that were said before, this comment (admittedly minor, I'll agree to that) was the straw that broke the back.  That, along with other digs from people I can't tell apart.  It's been at least once a week for the last three months that someone has snuck in a dig at me and I'm left thinking "Who is this person?" . . . if I don't even know who you are, no, I don't take a friendly dig well.  I'm funny that way, I guess.

By that standard, Hoopla didn't over-react at all.

But that's not the point. The point is that I hope someone out there has the chat logs you speak of, or you can at least provide a summary of the events, because I don't know what you're talking about. Unless you're talking about the banning incident, for which I have apologized profusely.

The one where I banned you from IRC, thanks to a combination of a bad user interface ("make operator" is literally right on top of "kick & ban" in the Colloquy menu) and my cluelessness. The one where I nearly shit my pance and wrote you a hasty PM explaining the situation.

Yeah, that pissed me off.  Not because you accidentally banned me, of course, but because you apologized before my hate built up a full head of steam.  I was merely annoyed, which does nothing for the state of my arteries.  It's useless.  USELESS!

I'm not quite on top of the situation, but honestly I think whether you can poke fun at someone with no hurt feelings has almost everything to do with level of rapport and almost nothing at all to do with post count/reg date.

FOR INSTANCE

I used to jab at Net and he at me, and we'd get quite pissed at each other. Now that we have spent a bit of time together, when we poke fun at each other it comes with a knowledge of who the other person is and where they're coming from, and it's taken as affectionate instead of hostile.

When a total stranger jabs at you, it's very natural to interpret it as hostile.

Then there are people who are kind of in-between, like maybe they've been around for a while but not everyone has spent a lot of time interacting with them/developing a rapport. I feel like I have a decent rapport with both Cainad and Hoopla, but clearly they don't have a really good one with each other. Sometimes one person reaches a comfort zone first and starts to joke around but the other person isn't quite there and perceives it differently than it was meant.

It's just human interaction.

Personally, if the internet was really 100% anonymous and there was no opportunity to get to know people, forums would lose all appeal to me. I love being able to look at weird shit and do online research, but for me the interactiveness and the personalities are what keeps my interest.

It has nothing to do with being "old buddies". The guy was being sarcastic. I've never really seen anyone here unable to take a joke before.

You should have been here in the old days.  Hoopla told a joke about me, and my over-reaction kicked off a civil war that had been brewing, which lasted TWO YEARS, and resulted in most of the board bailing.

By that standard, Hoopla didn't over-react at all.

Yeah, but you had balls.

If Hoopla manages to start a new civil war and rips the board in two over this, then I'll have nothing but respect for him.

If he starts crying about a little jab from someone who, in his opinion, hasn't been here long enough (even though Cainad has been here for some amount of time now), and a whole bunch of people back him up, then I'm going to find that hard to respect.

It was hardly even an insult. Hoopla was just being a little bit too much of a delicate flower for my liking. Cainad told a joke, Hoopla started crying, and his big brothers beat up Cainad. That's what I'm seeing in this thread.

Well, that's because you're an asshole.

I pride myself on it.

Good job Rhys!!

My opinion: Rhys threw a Golden Apple. I give him a pass on "trolling the trolls" because he has virtually no background with the PD or Discordians, except for the week and a half that he was stuck with Sjaantze, Harbinger of Distraction and Myself in tents, at a giant hippy festival (Pennsic).  So, I give him marks for getting a response here and via cock and repost at fstdt.

So, I vote we bring Rhys into the first level of initiation and haul him along on a troll or two.

I give it a 2/10 if it were one of us... for a n00b troll, I give it an "Effort" and thus worth some investment in time. There seems to me, potential. ;-)

Had he come here just spouting Atheistic nonsense, or trying to be pineal or something of that nature... I might be less generous. However, I thought it was acceptable for 'dipping a toe in' at PD.com. Certainly better than the One Nation Nonsense ;-)

The whole "old-guard posters get preferential treatment!" whine is hell of dumb.  People are people no matter what, and nobody gets treated exactly the same.  People pick sides.  People get offended at some things and laugh at others.  BIG.  FUCKING.  DEAL.  We're not commune full of enlightened hippies, goddamnit.

"We're monkeys;  Deal with it."

I know I was elaborating on it.  It's a complaint that comes up fairly frequently, it seems.

Uh, what?

When the first reply to a troll attempt is ":troll:", it's hardly a successful troll.

He can troll with us if he wants, but he should try to be less obvious.

Sure, he needs training... the troll was obvious to some of us, because, well... obvious troll is obvious to trolls. However, the response on fstdt was much better, I thought.

We really need to finish the material for "How to troll.."

I stand by my original reply.
