The Stooges are nominees along with Metallica, RUN D.M.C., Jeff Beck and some other spags. 

Assuming they get in, I look forward to hearing Iggy's speech. 

Also, I hope everyone who voted for Aerosomith in 01 is voting for Run DMC.  For better or for worse, they resurrected their sorry-ass career in the 80s. 

And as for Metallica, yeah they suck ass now, but Puppets and Lightning still rule.  I wonder if they will invite Newstead to play.

Insult to injury.  The Stooges didn't get voted in (probably not a surprise).  Class of '09 is Run DMC, Metallica, Jeff Beck, Bobby Womack, and Little Anthony and The Imperials.

I think all these kinds of polls are arbitrary & stupid.

Every music mag dredges up a 'best albums of all time' feature and there's 70% material that you'd expect and then 30% trendy, current stuff, the vast majority of which will not stand the test of time.

Back in the 90s, every fucking album list included Oasis records, I bet they don't place in the top 10 or 20 anymore.

Last time I saw a best ever albums list, Definitely Maybe was somewhere in the 2nd-5th range.

It's inconceivable that Metallica is being inducted to the Hall of Fame before either Iron Maiden or Judas Priest, assuming of course either are ever voted in.  The metal scene that sprung up in the 80s, including Metallica, was largely influenced by those two bands.  And, two very successful bands at that.

The next class I'll be interested in is the class of 2010.  Faith No More will be up as their first album was released in 1985.  They are another band that ended up being very influential to a bunch of other successful bands, and will probably get snubbed because they were just a little too far off the beaten path.

I want a pention to induct Black Flag into the Rock and roll hall of fame.  Something about their incessent touring spawning the national hardcore movement and keeping alive during the WHAM! era
