Title: ITT, You ask TGRR anything about history, and get the REAL TRUTH™
Post by: The Good Reverend Roger on May 10, 2011, 05:59:54 PM
We all know that Herodotus just made shit up, Plutarch wasn't much better, and Tacitus was a gossipy old prude.  Nobody even knows who Homer was, or when he lived, so he isn't very reliable, either.  Modern "historians" are political hacks, and I rather suspect all historians - ever - were, too.

As your Spiritual Advisor™, though, I am pretty much omniscient, and I can give you the real goods.  Ask me anything about what really happened, and I'll set the record straight, once and for all.  This can range from "Who actually won a given war?", to, "How accurate was that one TV show?", to, "What part of Scotland's history caused them to be such amazingly friendly and outgoing people?"

DISCLAIMER:  As most teachers and professors are hidebound worshippers of people like "Bede" and some lady called "Livy", the use of these answers in school/university may garner less than desireable results.  Tell them what they want to hear, and spread the Truth™ in other venues.

What were the causes of the decline of the Roman Empire?

Well, you'll hear all sorts of reasons ranging from "lead in the plumbing" to "The Roman Empire was a big hollow shell that cracked like an egg when the Huns, Visigoths, etc, showed up", to "complexity that couldn't be handled with then-current technology, even via an aristocracy", but that's all hogwash.

Likewise, you'll hear from the religious tards that "moral degeneration" (read: homosexuality) led to their downfall, but if that were the case, they'd never have gotten started in the first place.

No, the real reason the Roman Empire declined was that the bloody Christians took all the FUN out of it.  Why BOTHER with an empire, if you can't have kickass Gods like Mithra and Venus?  Fuck that, you're working your ass off for nothing.  So they convinced some schmuck barbarians to take over, then they fucking quit and started up the Mafia, where they could go back to having a good time.

This is why Italy hasn't won a war since.  Think about it...All that work, and what do you get for it?  Piss on that, sit back and drink some Grappa, while the Americans and Germans kick the snot out of each other.  The Italians are still relaxed today, and we're busy dying of stress-related heart attacks.

He didn't.  This was really the biggest mistake of his reign.  I mean, you're the KING, right?  YOU make the rules.  So you just bang hotties until one pumps out a son.  When someone complains, you cut THEIR head off, instead of the hottie's.  Less pissy barons, more smokin' hot babes.

Problem is, Henry had one FUCK of a case of shingles1, and was unable to exert the necessary force of character to make that happen.

1  I've heard it was venereal disease of some kind, which isn't possible, due to the fact that he used Cardinal Wolsey as a condom, and Scurvy is right out, because Henry wasn't a sailor.  Where DO "historians" get this garbage?

Market forces.  Do you REALLY imagine that the average American wants to know the history of the Hoover Dam, or the myriad factors that led the world into The Great War?

Or do you suppose that maybe they want to be told that the world operates upon mystic principles that they can control or foresee by watching some tard interpret the drunken ravings of Nostradumbass?

What REALLY happened to the Titanic?

Torpedoed by a Uboat.  Very sad.  The Germans had this one officer that jumped the fucking gun every time.  "Too Soon Karl", they called him, and not without good reason.  He was told to attack on a particular date and time, but he figured he'd get the credit for the first kill, by starting two years early.

He was sternly reprimanded, and the whole thing was hushed-up and some cock & bull story about an iceberg was advanced, even though everyone knows that ice can't hurt steel.  Take a hammer and beat on an ice cube, to prove it to yourself.

The Battle of Thermopylae: What gives?

Well, that's a touchy subject to many Greeks.  The official story is that the Greeks were wiped out due to the treason of a local named Ephialtes, who led the Persians around the back way to outflank the Greeks on the 2d day of the actual battle.

But here's the real story:  Not knowing he was being outflanked, Leonidas dismissed the bulk of the army, keeping only 300 Spartans, 400 Thebans, and 700 Thespians.  Now, what good he thought 700 actors would do is left to your imagination, but the end result was predictable.  The Thespians kept stopping to deliver asides, and the Persians - being no-nonsense people - stabbed them.  The battle was over within another day.

The Greeks, however, managed to defeat the Persian navy with Salamis (How they beat them with sandwich meat is a mystery, but it IS established fact, look it up for yourself), and eventually, the Greeks beat the Persians at the battle of placenta (which is pretty fucking gross, if you ask me).

Good one.  The official story has more holes in it than Gabrielle Gifford.  Supposedly, an oxygen tank exploded, tearing a hole in the side of the service module, also causing their electrical power to fail.

However, we all know that oxygen isn't explosive, or our atmosphere would blow up the first time someone carelessly lit a cigarette.

No, what really happened is that Ken Mattingly, the original CM pilot, got a case of the ass when he was yanked from the mission.  Calling in old gambling debts, Mattingly was able to have a bomb put aboard the spaceship.  The bomb would have destroyed the spaceship entirely, but Richard Nixon had caught wind of the plot, and had Spiro Agnew stow away in the service module with a scuba tank.  Agnew's bulk absorbed most of the explosion, but tragically, Agnew was blown into space, where he froze solid, eventually reentering as a solid block of blubber that impacted on some lady's house in England, killing her stone dead.  This was blamed on a passing airliner's "faulty" septic plug.

As documented in the Encyclopedia Ricterania, that was the tragic result of the first and only attempt to mix vindaloo and vodka in the human body.  Note that this wasn't an explosion, but rather an implosion, resulting in acres of trees pointing toward the erstwhile kitchen/lab, not a few of which were hauled up the arse of the test subject.  The matter was put under lock & key, and not even released after the fall of the iron curtain.

They got sick of waiting, and caught a ride with some Dutch guys.  They carved "Croatoan" on a tree as a mindfuck, and eventually settled in the "Red Hook" neighborhood of New York, where they lived happily ever after as pimps and prostitutes...Hence the term "Hooker".

No, Mrs O'Leary's cow did NOT do it.  It was Mrs Catherine O'Leary's no-good drunken husband, Patrick O'Leary that did it.  He passed out with one of those ridiculous Irish pipes in his mouth, and accidentally 4 square miles of the city when his shirt caught fire, causing the whiskey in his bloodstream to explode.

Michael Ahern, the Chicago Republican reporter who created the cow story, admitted in 1893 that he had made it up because he thought it would make colorful copy (Fact).

While a candidate, Lincoln very wisely refused to be televised, while at the same time making fun of Steven Douglas' hair.  Douglas was very sensitive about this, and had a "Big Ed Muskie" moment, which cost him the election.

Given the particular and incredibly deeply felt resentment against Hitler within even the Fatherland (let alone in conquered and annexed territories), among widely ranging social groups including the intelligentsia, Marxist activists, certain religious institutions and even the Wehrmacht, and given that indeed there were plenty of opportunities to actually deal with him AND his top aides, why were the Germans not serious enough about having a good time in the years 1933 to 1945?

It is stated that some of the main reasons the Renaissance began in Italy was because of the fact the peninsula was one of the least effected part of of the continent during the Black Death in the late 14th century, the constant contact with the East through trade with the Byzantine and then capitulations with the Ottoman Empire, as well as remnants of the Roman civilization. Do you support these studies?

No.  The Renaissance began in Italy because Italy is full of Italians, who would rather sit around painting smirking women than work.

Everyone else was busy as hell just growing enough potatoes to survive, and those smartasses spent hundreds of years fucking off.

Also, Joseph Smith said that the Angel Moroni told him that the Native Americans are a lost tribe of Israel. It's just that the government-funded universities suppress that information because the US has always had an agenda of oppression toward the Latter Day Saints. And the American Indians deny it because they are fearful that the government will oppress them as badly as it has the Mormons.

Do Gaelic and Hebrew share a common language root or did one branch off of the other? If so which one came first, And why are their some native american tribes that speak variations of it?

There aren't.

Wrong yet again :)

There are a number teams researching this field.  You can find them on both sides of the pond.

Listen, Roger. There are entire websites out there about this subject, written by people who wrote about it. That makes them experts regardless of what your flat-earth ivory-tower academic "lingists" and "anthropologists" have to say about it, and they are highly-regarded in the field of crackpots with an agenda to push. I read it in writing, so it must be true.

Yeh snarky defence of an artifice with vested intrest's in a certain time line of history with "peer reviewed" proof are surely the be all end all.

Please to be noting I am a linguist. I have been studying Indo-European and Near Eastern languages for the past 5 years.

Gaelic is Indo-European.
Hebrew is Semitic.

They are unrelated.

The first Thanksgiving.  What REALLY happened?

These puritan settlers, they come here and grow a shitload of food, and they invite these freeloader Indians over for dinner.  Said freeloaders get a gander at the glory that is White women, and they are utterly unable to restrain themselves...They get into the booze and steal a bunch of blankets from smallpox victims, and then there's like 50 wars where we have to defend ourselves against them when they attack settlers that started farms on empty land.  They were, of course, after the women.  I have it on good authority that all non-White males exist only to rape White women, when they aren't swilling gin and juice and swiping bedclothes.

Then we decided to give them some nice land of their own, and wouldn't you know it?  Half of the lazy bastards drop dead just walking there.

But the survivors learned to speak a real language and live in proper houses, so every year we have "Thanksgiving", where we sort of thank Baby Jesus for allowing us to help the helpless and feeble-minded Indians that obviously couldn't exist without us.

Billy the Kid was a mild-mannered lawman from Kansas who later in life invented the trailer park, thus containing 65% of American yahooism.  He was, unfortunately, hounded to his death by an insane fan, some guy named Pat Garrett, who kept stuffing dead animals in Billy's mailbox and making up wild stories about him.

Polk was a great fucking American, and don't let anyone tell you differently.  He recognized the menace to our North, and nobody fucking listened to him.  He did manage the creation of Minnesota, which exists solely as a buffer state between Canada and our wheat mines in Iowa.  Thank God for Polk...If not for his foresight, the Canadians would have all of our wheat, and we'd have to eat parsnips like they do in England.

The Roundheads were mostly recruited in central and South England.  The cavaliers were all from Wales (observe, for example, the shape of Coyote's skull).

As for the weird fucking penis reference, I'm just gonna chalk that up to "Texas".

Why were the Roundheads called "the Roundheads"? I've seen "Roundhead" and "Cavalier" in reference to circumcised and uncircumcised penises, respectively. Was that why?

The Roundheads were mostly recruited in central and South England.  The cavaliers were all from Wales (observe, for example, the shape of Coyote's skull).

As for the weird fucking penis reference, I'm just gonna chalk that up to "Texas".

Why did Audubon make his works so fucking expensive? Even back in the day they were overpriced, so how did he ever expect to make money off his fascination with winged creatures before he died?

After he died it's a given that prices go up, but who did he think he was fooling while he lived?

I assume anyone who has more than one street named after them qualifies? Even if they are in the same town? Well, regardless: was Carl Sandburg really a space lesbian vixen? and if not, why the fuck not?!

Carl Sandburg wrote really bad poetry, except when he was on drugs, whereupon he wrote really strange really bad poetry:

I saw a man upon the stair
A little man who was not there
He was not there again today
I wish that man would go away.

See?  You don't dream that kind of shit up on a cup of coffee.  So, anyway, to protect the nation's youth, Potter Stewart had him dragged down into the basement of the Supreme Court, where they handed him over to the grabby girls for a day or three.  Nobody really talked about it much.

He came back, but he never wrote shit like that again.  He stuck to poems about trees, flowers, love, and the essential beauty of the free market, until the day he died.

i have to admit that when i was in 4th grade and a friend's friend's dad's Hustler magazine was presented to me, i was confused a bit by the geometries involved, as it appeared in some pictures that the opening was further back, and in some, further forward.  but that's when i was something like 9 years old.
The basics of operation were known to me from a very young age, as it was a question that is hardwired in for curiosity and i demanded the details from my folks.

Mr Rogers was a kind, gentle man who took no part in politics or backroom dealing1.  Mr Robinson was too busy stealing ear rings that still had bits of ear on them to be interested in Masonic shit.

1  Except that one time the hippie dude tried to ride on the trolley.  Nobody wants to talk about that day, and the network buried the episode, paid off the families of traumatized children, and got Fred Rogers the help he needed.

Almost definitely.  Most of the flood mythos is taken from the Babylonians, and may have some kernel of truth to it.  Likewise, the Jews in Egypt thing is garbled, but likely based somewhat on actual events.  Pontus Pilate was a real guy.  So, yeah, some of it is true, though I am continually disappointed by the lack of 7 headed beasties, etc, that were PROMISED in Revelation.

I am actually far more... I don't know what... because it isn't porn. Just a forum where adults hold conversations about poop and things relating to poop.

It's not even really about scatological humor. "POOP BUTT FART LOLZ" is something I can understand, but this is something else.

It's not about a sexual fetish. It's not about toilet humor. It's just about poop. Period.

It's not about medical issues or health. It's not about sex, it's not about humor. It's not a "serious" forum and it's not a "joke" forum. It's a poop forum. For talking about poop.

Something else is truly a good description.

The TRUTH is, I have no fucking idea, because I can't keep track of you upside down people, because all I ever see is your shoes.  Also, it's not like NZ has a history of its own.  There isn't enough of it.  So it just gets rolled into Australian History, down in the footnotes.

I need this for elsewhere.

For the same reason there are proudboys.  People gotta feel special.

Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on current events in Eastern Europe/Russia? Migrants in Belarus, Russian troop buildup near Ukraine, Russia blowing up a satellite in LEO. Put in seems to be getting awfully squirrelly.

Well, it's just that time of the century.  You can go back 600 years, and they do this shit in the first 30 years of any given century.

Because they're NUTS.

I think it was done as a message to the West...if we try to intervene should they decide to invade Ukraine, all communication that travels via satellite is at risk. That could seriously have an impact on commerce and military ops.

Let's put it this way...the US government is concerned enough that I am going on orders for the entire month of Dec, and receiving training in Battle Damage Assessment.

While this level of assbaggery would be encouraging, I have been let down too many times.
