For example, was passing the protests in Antwerp yesterday and saw people losing their shit in a most glorious fashion.

Then there was a puncture and a day of shit and delays, but like I said, elements of awesome.

Although that is also true, look at the Stanford Prison experiment to see the tip of the iceberg of research into how roles change people's behavior.

Same guy went on to have a 45-year career studying what causes people to turn evil. Turns out, most evil is probably not perpetrated by evil people, but by people in situations which foster evil.

Given the context in our society in which our police force exists, it would take two weeks for new draftees to be functionally corrupt.

A political lottery would also put more power in the hands of the bureaucrats - because those people would become the only ones who would have any experience of the system (and we would still need a system with checks and balances). Most people would probably defer to them as experts and advisors, with predictable results.
